After discovering that [member="Veiere Arenais"] was not bound for Sriluur to seek out information on the Hutt Cartel and their war against her, but had instead gone to fight in the battle on Atrisia, Kay needed some fresh air. While sitting at her desk and trying to get some work done, she had been unable to focus. Her thoughts were on Veiere. Through their Force-bond, she had felt the Darkness that surrounded her Jedi bodyguard and how it pulled on him. So it wasn't surprising that she was worried. And she was feeling regret as well. There was a very real chance that he could lose his life in that battle, as she had seen the holonews reports and knew how brutal it was. And with that she would have lost her chance to let him know how she felt. It had been nearly 13 years since her husband was murdered by a Sith Lord, and she had kept everyone at arm's length ever since. Until now. Veiere was a good match, but the battle over Atrisia was a frightening one.
Unable to take the confines of the Presidential Palace anymore, Kay got herself dressed into something more suitable for a speederbike ride.
As soon as she stepped out into the hallway with her helmet tucked under her arm, Einon, the head of her security team was right on her heels. "Off to the canyons again, Madam President?"
"Yes, Einon, just for an hour or two. I need to think. You can stay here."
"I don't have to tell you that you aren't going alone."
"I don't expect you to. But no more than two. I don't want any of them to get lost."
"And I don't want you to intentionally lose them again. One more stunt like that and Veiere will insist that we put a tracker on you." Einon brought out his commlink and assembled Kay's escort.
Minutes later, Kay was zooming across the field at the back of the Palace, with two escort speederbikes behind her. They were dressed in a similar style as she was, so the three of them looked like some small speederbike gang instead of a Head of State and her bodyguards. It was all part of the ploy.
Kay pushed the throttle and tucked herself on as they came along the cliff's edge. There had been a few times when she had freaked out passengers as she jumped her speeder off the cliff. Of course what they would discover a second later was that the drop was only 15 feet below them, a narrow path leading further into the depths of the Twin Canyons. One of the guards slowed his bike down a little as he watched her make the jump. "I hate it when she does that..." By the time that he got to the bottom, he caught only the tail end of his partner's speeder as it turned a corner. The echoes bouncing off the canyon walls made it difficult to know where it was coming from. At least the President didn't do this at night.
Kay almost knew the canyons off by heart, though this time she wasn't planning on going to the nearby beach. She just wanted to ride, to forget everything and focus on the twists and turns in the hopes that she wouldn't get lost herself. As she glanced back over her shoulders to see how far back her escorts were, she thought she saw a few dark figures on the ledges, but there was no way to know for sure as she had already gone past.
One final turn to her left caused her to slow her speeder down. Dead end. Kay stopped her speeder and removed her helmet, setting it behind her seat as she retrieved a bottle of water and waited for her two escorts to catch up.
