Can Lightning learn lightning? (Kára Morrigan)

Valdra sat on the desk creating fire in his hand and turning it into a phoenix that would sit on his hand looking at the girl training. He turned his attention towards the student as she tried focusing lightning into a ball. He noticed her lightning appeared different and there was less of a pissed look on her face, she was learning very quick on the different forms of anger.

He looked at the bird and the bird looked back at him and by behavior one could not be sure if Valdra was controlling it or it was actually alive. He then blew on the bird and it disappeared into smoke. Standing up he walked over and stood in front of her and watched her more closely, "Hmmm, who id you say your master was?"

"Lord Kaine Zambrano," I said softly, focused wholly on the energy building in my palm. "The Emperor of Panatha."

That, as far as I knew, was a title he'd gained relatively recently. Did the temple on Byss still stand? I hadn't forgotten the massive palace, nor the ghost of its former empress. Her statue in the foyer had been absolutely majestic.

The greater the flow of power to my palm, the more effort it took to keep it steady. I was but a conduit for the dark side, but I was a poor one, as of yet too inefficient. But slowly, steadily, methodically, lightning pooled into one spherical vortex of crackling energy, guided inch by painstaking inch. Just a few more moments...

A single tendril escaped the ball and jolted against my palm. The brief spike of pain was like a needle in my hand. The pain was slight compared to the things that I had suffered in my past, but it helped focus me, helped guide me, my weakness made my strength.

Another bolt stabbed me. The pain was greater, deeper, hotter, focusing me all the more. The ball in my hand thrummed.

This was it. I pulled more, and more still, lip clenched between my teeth. My teeth punctured the skin and a thin trail of blood slid down my chin.

And the ball was complete.

Valdra watched her from his spot at his desk as she practiced the lightning ball, a concept that was above many minds as how could you shape something that was chaotic in nature? He watched her fight with her mind to understand something he had merely scratched the surface of due to such complexity and for a brief moment he saw her complete a beautiful ball, a hint to a mastery in her future. He then created a ball of fire and through it past her face to attempt to break her concentration.

He waited for the results of his action, "You have definitely surpassed the ability of a mere Acolyte, but do not ignore fundamentals in your pursuit of power or your own power will destroy you like many before you." In the path of power there were two paths, the patient and impatient. The impatient were destined for much destruction and war, but short lives and their own power would take them. The patient were like the cold knife in a friend's back or the snake in the grass, patiently waiting to reveal itself and would prove to be beyond destructive, but effective and through in its persists. This was the power Valdra pursued and taught. His actions and words were not evil, but caluculated, a necessary evil and he found no need for evil words or deeds when they weren't necessary. This behavior also suggested weakness before the other Lords which was a false security. If ever he had to bring about the death of someone he would prefer them underestimate him until they found his fires consuming them.

Power was in the act and the pursuit. It waited with eternal patience and invictus resolve.

A streak of fire blazed past my face, hot air ruffling my hair and singing my nose. The surprise of it snapped my concentration in two. A whip of lightning broke lose from the ball, searing my flesh. My pain brought my focus back. My hatred of failure and weakness spurred me on. I buckled down, pulled more power to me, heard sweet, seductive whispers tickle my ears.

I threw the ball at the dummy, and watched the fireworks. I imagined what such an attack might do to a sentient, imagined flesh frying and blood boiling. It was rapturous.

He warned me against impatiently grasping for power. For all that I despised him, I found myself taking his words to heart. "You have my thanks, Lord Valdra."

There was more to learn -- there was always more to learn, but this, I surmised, was a good start.

Darth Valdra watched the results of her concentration being broken, but her quick recivery. She was a broken mess, but clearly she had what it took to be a great warrior. "Don't thank me, just practice and don't let our armies lose." He stood from his leaning position and moved past her, he looked back behind him at her slightly, "Good work."

Darth Valdra left the room as there was nothing more he could teach her as merely an instructor and there was nothing more he wanted to teach.
