Azurine grinned rather playfully up at Zaiya, making sure to match her aurora shifting violet gaze to the opalite reflective blue of hers. She was slowly getting resigned to the fact that she was stuck on the short end of this group, even if she was older than practically all of them. In the end, she was pretty used to it by now. She'd always been smaller than her peers on Iridonia as a child, and even now, she never actually reached the average for a Zabrak woman. It's why she had manipulated the style of fighting she was raised on to help make up for that difference in stature.

"It's been good. The flight out here was a little rough, but nothing I haven't dealt with before. What about you?" She chuckled, genuinely excited for the opportunity to observe and try more combat styles, despite the weakness she'd been feeling recently. Even without that, she knew this form of martial combat was going to be a challenge for her. She was working with what was essentially her elemental opposite, but shying away from such a challenge wasn't something she did often.

Just like with the last couple encounters Azzie had with Zaiya, she couldn't see her aura anymore. At least not all of it. All living things had aura as they were part of the force. Even some objects had one if the echoes attached to it were strong enough. However, hers was much too faint for a force user and remained empty of emotional spikes. She did her best not to draw any attention to that. Zaiya had to have some kind of good reason to hide, and she didn't want to prod for that answer. At least not here and now, even if her curiosity was clear in her eyes alongside her fiery energy.

Her smile widened a bit, taking the others eagerness to get started as her accepting the partnering invitation. She gave a quick two finger salute, laying her datapad off to the side so it wouldn't be in the way, "Why don't you take the attack position first, if you want? Either is fine by me, though."

xiqfVVX.png

Aris took a breath before he found a spot to sit on the side. He doubted it'd be something he could participate in, these slow katas anyway. What was slow to him was different, after all. So, he watched the others. He could learn just by watching. A smile formed as he watched Azurine Varek Azurine Varek and Zaiya Ceti Zaiya Ceti pair up. Perhaps a good moment for them to make friends?

Either way, he was just as happy to watch.

Ryana paired up with a fellow apprentice as they took their opening stances ryana breathed and tried to center herself which was always hard for her to do. Especially when she was force bonded with a little ball of fluffy mischief that sent her regular images of grapes and the urge to eat them. She tried her best as she had the right athleticism for the art she just didn't have the perfect mindset for it given her companion and her backstory.

As they began her training partner swung first as ryana dodged the attack grabbing his arm and flipping him over.

How have I've been? Thinking of everything made Zaiya once again flush a bit, pastel pinks causing a pearly luminescent shimmer to tint her cheeks and ears.

"It's been... busy. Lots of training and traveling," Which wasn't a lie, considering her time spent with Master Iris Arani Iris Arani and then all the training with Master Jonyna on Ilum, and now here with Master Vanagor. But it was the travel to Koboh and all that happened there that had her slightly flustered still -- even more so after considering she had confessed to Aris that she had been jealous of Azurine, even if knowing that was a rather silly thing to feel.

It was a good thing she had her mental blocks down. She'd be mortified once they started sparing if anything resonated through once they touched.

"Okay. I'll be the attacker and you can defend." Right. Time to focus. She had to put her all in this. With a firm thinning of her lips, Zaiya lifted her chin and took a deep breath. The Lovalla rarely got into fights, much less one on one fights, but she had been training with Braze and Aris to learn how to spar since she joined. Granted, it had been limited to the basics and certainly nothing like how Azzie had done with Aris before.

But if she wanted to be the best KNight, she had to be able to take on Azurine and Aris!

Squaring her shoulders, a shimmer of vibrant citrine hues flecked with a lovely cobalt glow went rippling over her rosy golden skin.

Focus on harmony, grounding, clarity.

Just like she'd been instructed, Zaiya began with a walking pace, nice and slow. Fisted hands up, body loose, ready to move when needed. While tall, she had a willowy body, much like that of a dancer -- but she was no martial expert. Nor was she used to making the first move, as she had a tendency to be the one to support and react to defend rather than attack.

The first strike came at Azurine, but it was enhanced with the Force to not only provide some strength but also ensure her arm was reinforced from soft to solid.

As the pace began to increase, he found his usual youthful enthusiasm radiating once more, the energy fueling his every movement. His excitement may have even been palpable as he lunged towards Roman's midsection in the later rounds, but it was still far from the ferocity of a nexu. For a time, he was successful in shutting out all outside distractions. Lysander was determined to not make a single mistake.

Given the difference in height between him and Roman, he did wonder if it would make it more challenging for him to defend. However, with each passing round in the defensive role, the boy's confidence grew. When it came time to grasp the other Padawan's arm, he reached out with a solid grip. And then with a pivot, he pulled the arm over his body, finishing the maneuver.

It seemed that every time he uttered his last name, he braced himself for the inevitable question. This time, it just took a little longer to be asked. His focused expression softened a bit as he prepared the answer. His weight shifted slightly onto one foot. “Yes," he said with a hint of warmth in his voice. "Cora is my big sister." The words rolled off his tongue as if it had been rehearsed countless times. “She's pretty cool, huh?" he continued. There may have even been a hint of affection in his tone. His childhood wasn't that great, but she was in the good parts. "How do you know her?" Lysander was genuinely intrigued now.

As he glanced to the side, he saw two girls training together, while a younger boy sat watching them with a smile. Was he trying to make sense of their behavior? Lysander felt like that was a puzzle even the Jedi Order couldn’t solve. Turning back to Roman, he nodded towards Aris Noble Aris Noble before jogging over to close the distance between them. "Hey! Why don't you come train with me and Roman?" He then gestured back at the taller Padawan.

.

Giving himself the moment to walk around and watch everyone, the big man was glad to see Jedi picking up on what he was teaching. He only really knew a couple of them, and that was barely, so it was the “old grump” mode still. Vanagor was aware of how he acted, but this was a new generation of Jedi and while there will always be such aspects of the Force as “The Code” as well as the various tenets such as “Conquers” and “Practices”, a lot can easily be lost through no one’s fault but those who do not pass them on. This is why he was “standoffish” to those he did not know well, not to be rude, but to impart what he knew without distraction.

Nodding to each individual in a manner of encouragement and moving on he reached a set of shelves with various texts and various devices. One of them though he looked at it specifically, it was a large one, but this holocron of unique design was what Vanagor picked up and brought over to one of the benches, it was near Aris Noble Aris Noble coincidentally. Pressing two buttons and closing his eyes, he waited for the shifts and the turns until finally… his own image filled the viewing light of the holocron.

[Hello, I am… oh it’s you…]

Rolling his eyes, he nodded. Yes, hello.

[Do you have a student in mind who could learn from me?]

A few, actually. I am looking right now at how attentive and retentive they are.

dc-injustice-2-mobile-black-adam-reveal-trailer-dc-izfr7cxbg_82bm.2560.png

[None of them are carrying lightsabers currently.]

This is a Broken Gate class, however I started with a quick “Level 2” demonstration of the kata. No one asked about it yet, but I am sure that they will when they are ready.

[Are there any that you want me to recognize, now?]

Yes. Right now there are two. He pointed to Aris, and then Braze. Aris is young but already highly accomplished, and Braze is highly adept with the ins and outs of weaponry.

[Anyone else at this point?]

The Iridonian over there? She is a bit annoying, but she has the potential to take this seriously and pass it on as I know the other two would. She’s almost there…

[The others?]

Everyone here has the potential, I would not have let them come if they did not. I am just pointing out the two that could learn from you right now, and the one closest to them on that level. I don't want want this to be a competition.

[I see. I will imprint their faces into memory.]

"Great, and nice to meet you, Aiden," he said as he took a step away from the other padawan.

It was important to meet other Padawans. Eventually they would all be Knights and so on and be working together to help people in the galaxy. He intended to not be a soldier, at least as much as he could avoid it, but he knew that sometimes the situation necessitated the ability to fight, as evidenced by his time on Onderon, when he'd been tasked with protecting the worlds Queen, something he'd failed to do. He just wasn't ready for such important assignments though he'd surely tried his best.

He'd tried to argue with the people he'd faced, tried to get them to see reason and stop the fighting. That was what a Jedi should do, at least as he understood the code. Not everyone could be reasoned with, though, which was why he was there. That and he was adamant about making sure Arhiaa was always safe.

"Ready? Here we go."

As instructed, he took it slow at first, moving towards Aiden at a walk and bringing his attacking arm down from the top as Master Vanagor had instructed them to do.

Braze watched as they grouped up as instructed, his gaze tracking each pairing: Azurine Varek vs Zaiya Ceti, Ryana Mina vs an Unknown Apprentice, Lysander von Ascania vs Roman Vossari, and Caelan Valoren vs Aiden Porte. He noticed Aris standing alone once everyone had paired off, and he considered approaching him, but before he could make his way over, he saw Lysander already running up to Aris.

Truth be told, Braze was in no condition to join them. He was presently injured, lingering on the sidelines to observe much like Aris. His leg was encased in an odd-looking cast, complete with pins stabilizing the newly-set bones, while his shoulder was similarly braced with a support system for another recent injury. There was no doubt that he had strict doctor's orders outlining what he could and couldn't do, but that didn't mean he intended to miss out on the opportunity to learn.

Even from the sidelines, Braze focused intensely on the training. He paid close attention to Caltin's lectures, trying to absorb every word and technique. If he couldn't engage physically, he would engage mentally, studying how the techniques were executed, but also how to correct errors in others. He was watching how Caltin taught his class. He watched each apprentice's stance, their footwork, the subtleties of their movements—searching for opportunities to improve his understanding. He took this as a chance to become better, even if, for now, it was only through observation.

He thought that perhaps Aiden Porte Aiden Porte , and Roman Vossari Roman Vossari , might make a better matchup since they were both a little older. Despite not being able to participate physically, Braze still felt a pang of desire to do so, much akin to a puppy that wanted to play when watching others fully engaging in a play time activity.

Braze perked up when he saw what Caltin had picked up. He wasn't with in ear shot of what he was saying but was briefly curious what he was doing with the device. HIs curiosity shifted as he looked back to the various pairings.

Azurine stopped for a moment when Zaiya spoke up. The mental blocks were there, yes, so she couldn't see any spikes in her aura. However, the universal face flush of pinks was something that clearly couldn't be helped on anyone. A blush was a blush on all, so it seemed. Whether that pinky hue came from embarrassment or being flustered by something, she couldn't tell, but unless she was sick, then it was likely one of those two things. Whatever she wanted to keep to herself so desperately was making her red-faced, and she completely understood that feeling, her own empathy for the situation showing through her eyes.

"Sounds like a time, would love to hear about it at some point. I should do some more traveling, really. I haven't seen my homeworld since—" she paused, taking a deep breath. If she wanted to connect with Zaiya, she had come to the conclusion that she needed to extend the invitation first, being as open and transparent as possible. The girl before her hadn't seemed to be nearly as receptive of her other first attempts like playful teasing or humor, so maybe this time would be different, "Since before I got frozen in carbonite for like 900 years. I wonder how different it is now."

She gave a quick nod to Zayia when she repositioned herself to take the offensive, silently agreeing to begin. Master Caltin Vanagor Caltin Vanagor 's words played in her mind as she, too, got herself ready.

"Your breathing cultivates focus and clarity. It calms the storm within when conflicts rage around you."

She took a deep breath, then another, her gaze focused on her partner and the way she moved forward.

"When connected with your opponent, you see not the enemy before you but the challenges they face. In their weakness lies your strength, and in your kindness lies their redemption."

She watched every movement, even if they were simple for the purposes of training, plucked out where she faultered. Zaiya was focused, swift, but emotionally embarrassed or flustered by something. Therefore, she was open to being unbalanced. The knowing flame sparked through her eyes.

"When you strike with purpose, you create openings in your opponent’s defenses. However, intention must never be rooted in anger."

Azzie's bright yet eager grin showed understanding above all else. She sidestepped as had been shown and reached to grab onto Zayia's outstretched attacking arm, twisting to the side in order to gently pull it across her own body.

What she hadn't expected was the force Zaiya had channeled into her attack on this first one. She could have braced for it if she'd expected it, though it did leave her a bit stunned. To the point where her own movements to subvert the attack had not been fully enough, feeling the weight hit her chest more forcefully, even if she'd successfully manuvered it. As per instructions, she couldn't use that extra momentum to pull the younger padawan over like what would likely have been expected in a spar situation since they were supposed to stop before that point. So instead, she just took it all on herself, having to shift her stance to something much more akin to Iridonian combat so it wouldn't knock her over. She was genuinely impressed by it at the very least.

"Nice hit! Maybe next time we keep it to a demonstration strength so we don't end up accidentally beating on each other by the end of it, yeah?" She joked playfully, hoping to make light of it as she let go.

She then turned her attention to becoming the attacker in the situation, giving Zayia a moment to collect herself. She wanted her to be ready so that they both could get as much out of this lesson as they clearly wanted to get. She made a mental note, though, to ask about the lightsaber in his initial demonstration the next time the old man called for questions, not wanting to accidentally disrespect him by just going for it once again.

If she wanted to follow in her current masters footsteps someday, then she needed to exercise that natural leadership she possessed in all aspects of her life to the best of her ability, even here. To lead by example, all she really needed to do was to be herself.

"Sounds like a time, would love to hear about it at some point. I should do some more traveling, really. I haven't seen my homeworld since—Since before I got frozen in carbonite for like 900 years. I wonder how different it is now."

Zaiya's expression shifted from curiosity to downright bewilderment, her skin taking on a soft dove grey that deepened as confusion spread through her like a ripple, tinting the patterns along her arms.

Wait... frozen in carbonite? For 900 years, Zaiya thought to herself, she couldn't help the puzzled cant of her head as she stared at Azzie, half expecting Azzie to laugh and admit she was exaggerating. That had to be some kind of hyperbole, right? Surely, Azzie didn't mean it literally! It sounded like something out of a holostory.

But there was no time to untangle it. They were here to spar, after all, and she could ponder the impossibilities of carbonite suspension for centuries after the match.

However, the sparring match went a little sideways from the start. The Force boosted strength Zaiya had tapped into packed a lot more punch than she'd meant it to, and the flow of the fight turned a little… chaotic. She hadn't quite found the balance between her natural ability and the Force, and it showed.

"Nice hit! Maybe next time we keep it to a demonstration strength so we don't end up accidentally beating on each other by the end of it, yeah?"

Zaiya's face flushed as soon as she felt her hit land harder than she'd meant it to. The moment she'd channeled the Force into her strength, she hadn't realized how much it would amplify her strike. Her main concern was that as a Lovalla, her kind were less robust than humans, certainally nothing like Azzie, who was an Iridonian. So, realizing that she had gone out with a bit more oomph than she had intended embarrassed the Padawan. Zaiya's skin shimmered, pulsing with hints of deep coral, teal, and an ombre of bronze glints over her usual rosy golden tones -- a mix of embarrassment, excitement, and concern.

"Oh! Sorry, Azzie," Zaiya said, breathing out a nervous laugh.

"I guess I got a bit carried away. Not used to using the Force to enhance my melee skills. My kind arn't that robust or prone to physical fights." She rubbed the back of her neck, a bit mortified, though she couldn't ignore the flicker of pride she felt at how effective the Force had been in bolstering her strength. But still… balance. She needed to get better at balancing that strength boost, finding the right blend of power and her natural speed. That was the real challenge.

So when Azzie joked, Zaiya's tension eased a little, her colors shifting to a softer turquoise of relief.

"Right...demonstration strength. Got it." She replied back, giving a nod. This time, though, it would be Azzie's turn to attack, so she then settled herself into a defensive stance, watching closely as Azzie prepared to go on the offense. It was time to try her agility this round, see how much she could rely on her natural speed and then pull in the Force only if she really needed it.

"Okay your turn." Zaiya let herself fall into that flow state, her focus narrowing as she watched the Iridonian's every movement. She didn't know how well her agility would hold up against Azzie's experience, but that was what this sparring session was for; learning and finding out where she excelled and where she still had gaps.

If she could master this balance, Zaiya knew she'd be one step closer to becoming the Knight she wanted to be.

Roman knew that he had size and strength on his young partner, but this practice was as much about fostering Lysander's development as it was about honing his own skills.

"Alright, let's see how you play defense this time."
Roman encouraged, shifting into position. He was impressed by Lysander's determination, the Padawan may have been smaller, but he approached the challenge with an unyielding spirit that Roman found admirable. The way Lysander tackled each movement, even in the face of potentially being overpowered, spoke volumes about the kind of Jedi he would grow up to be.

Roman grinned, "She's a great person, a formidable Jedi, and a great teacher." he replied, confirming his high regard for Cora. "I had the pleasure of spending some time with her on a recent mission, and I learned a lot from her perspective. We have similar backgrounds, it was nice to have someone to relate to."

He watched with a flicker of amusement as Lysander invited Aris to join their training. A smirk played on Roman's lips, this was going to be interesting, the goliath of a Padawan would surely be a challenge for them both.

As the younger Padawan scuttled toward Aris, Roman took a moment to glance around the room. He allowed his gaze to wander, acknowledging each pair honing their skills. Caelan and Aiden were locked in a friendly spar, exchanging light blows, while Ryana and another Padawan executed their forms with grace. He spotted Braze observing from the sidelines, perhaps still catching his breath after a challenging exchange. Finally, his attention landed back on Zaiya and Azurine, both fiercely engaged, a hint of tension in the air between them.

Aris blinked, glancing to Lysander before smiling. It was a good offer, he figured. He pushed himself up, glancing one last time to Zaiya and Azurine before giving the other boy a nod. Then another to Roman. "I take it we'll alternate, then?" That seemed like the best way to handle it. One to watch, one to attack, one to defend. He stretched his arms across his chest, eyes narrowing in focus now.

"Who should start?"

The attack will come from above, grab the closest arm and pull across the body. Aiden took a deep breath as he made a mental error and he was glad he corrected it before Caelan Valoren Caelan Valoren ever actually made the first move.

The attack will come, sidestep, grab the closest arm and pull over the body. From that point it would come to a stop. Aiden nodded his head towards Caelan as he advanced.

The padawan sidestepped, reached for the closest arm and pulled it over his body. He was glad they were taking this at a walking pace at the beginning, if he made any errors he would definitely look like the fool. Aiden seemed rather focused today so he hoped not to make to many mistakes, as long as he paid attention and cleared his mind.

Focus his thoughts on the here and now where they belonged.

Soon it was time to switch and Aiden then was the attacker, and he made the attack from above against Caelan.

Aiden caught his arm, stepped to the side, and brought the arm over his shoulder. Pretty textbook. Caelan wasn't likely to attack someone from such a strange position, at least unarmed, but he could see the practicality of using the maneuver against someone who was armed with a blade as well. Certainly had some practical uses and he was likely to utilize it.

He stepped back and gave the other boy a thumbs up that he was ready.

When Aiden came forward, he reached for the arm while stepping to the side, bringing the other boys arm past his shoulder. Once he had done so, he released it and stepped away.

"Alright, we step up the speed now."

He came forward, this time quicker. No more walking and no slow arm swing.

Among the handful of padawans drilling the velocities, one boy stood out to the side—one with a cast encasing his leg. Before rejoining the others, he turned back. A smile easily broke across his face and he offered a brief nod of acknowledgement. As he then made his way back to the others, his gaze lingered upon the other two. The new padawan, with a determination etched on his features, and Roman, who had shown enthusiasm for the velocities from the very beginning.

Lysander also wanted to ask more about the mission he went on with his sister, but figured now probably wasn't the best time. He decided to hold the thought until the lesson here was completed.

“You can go.” His voice was a mix of encouragement and even camaraderie. “Since you haven’t had a turn yet.” With that, he retreated back several paces so that he wouldn’t be in their way. His gaze dropped so that he could observe their footwork, and other areas of the technique that he may have missed whenever participating just moments ago. He thought it might even reveal some of their strengths and weaknesses, as he often noticed during lightsaber instruction lessons.

He crossed his arms over his chest while taking a few seconds to glance at some of the other pairings. The Padawan didn't dare stray from his current position, though

He didn’t want to get caught slacking by Master Caltin. When the Jedi elders back on Coruscant went on and on with their endless philosophies, Lysander found himself struggling to maintain interest and his patience would thin. But in the presence of the current Jedi Master, whose physique seemed to command respect, along with an aura of quiet strength, he couldn’t help but notice he was much more alert than usual, and certainly on some of his better behavior.

Roman, let out at an initial groan as Lysander stepped aside. He'd glimpsed enough of Aris's abilities during training to know that the padawan was a natural in any combat situation, not to mention being a Noble. But Roman, while not as naturally gifted, was tenacious and had a keen eye for weaknesses.

He gave a nod of acknowledgment to Aris, a silent challenge. He didn't want to overwhelm the padawan from the get-go, but he also didn't want to be seen as holding back. He took a measured step forward, his movements fluid. Then, he launched himself towards Aris, aiming for the padawan's midsection with a practiced, controlled motion. His attack was slightly faster than the initial demonstration, a subtle hint of the escalating pace to come.

xiqfVVX.png

Aris settled his stance as the kind smile he wore faded into pure concentration. Follow the flow of combat, follow the lesson. This wasn't a full brawl like with Azurine Varek Azurine Varek before. He turned with the strike, trying to let it pass him, deflect. Breath, focus. He was on the defensive for now, as instructed, letting Roman set the pace of this particular round. Faster was better, especially considering how slow things were naturally to Aris.

Alright, get in one more round each, only this time, do not tell the defender what you are doing. Let’s see how effective these velocities are..
It will be interesting to see what happens and how seriously each of them take this. Those who did not do well would simply practice more, and those who “got it” would be ready for the next round.

Azurine certainly hadn't missed the expression of shock from Zaiya when she'd been open about her past. She had fully expected it, really. It was something that most people would never even dream of. It was also something off-putting to others, so she hoped that by her being so open about it, she might show Zaiya that she was genuinely trying to connect with her, and had been multiple times in the past now. She glanced at the younger padawan with a look that basically said Ask me about it later, and I'll answer any questions without words.

Zaiya seemed flustered by her own use of force enhancement, and she certainly laughed a bit in response, all in good fun. "Don't worry about it too much, I just haven't been feeling fully up to myself recently." She stated, trying to laugh off the dark bags and paleness. She was just happy she was such a good actor, hiding the persistent sting in her nerves that had gotten worse in recent days.

"I can still take much worse, and most of it was deflected, so that's nothing to apologize for. It's pretty impressive, actually!" Flashing a quick grin, she hoped to encourage her for later practice. Even if now might not have been the time or the place, it would absolutely come in handy in the future. "You could do a real number on someone in combat if you keep working at it! I can help you out with it sometime if you want."

Azzie found herself glancing around the room for a quick moment, her eyes focusing on how Caelan Valoren Caelan Valoren was doing. The little lion cub was a quick learner, and he was doing great. She was glad she had been able to give him even just a little boost to his confidence when they'd been acquainted. She then caught sight of Aris Noble Aris Noble , a proud grin passing her face. Even if he had to hold back, it was nice to see him go for it rather than sit and watch.

It didn't take long before she was brought right back to the task at hand. She moved slowly, bringing her fist towards Zayia's chest. Rather than use any enhancement, though, she actually held back quite a bit as per her own statement from before. She knew how dense her body was just on its own. Nothing like Aris, that was for certain, but much more than a humans, and she wanted Zaiya to have as equal of an opportunity to learn the techniques. So, she placed the trajectory of her strike specifically towards a location that would allow Zaiya the best opportunity to practice what had been taught in a way that would still challenge her.

Though she didn't know it at that moment, it was a common ground she shared with Master Vanagor. The arts of combat and making sure they were learned were just as important to her as the initial learning of it was.

After helping her fellow padawan up Ryana and her training partner listened to caltin speak as they then took opening stances again as ryana breathed and let her connection in the force flow freely through her or atleast she tried it was something she always had trouble with. Letting the force freely flow through her and act through her she much prefered using it like a hammer and everything was the proverbial nail. But she would try as she breathed trying to center herself and as her training partner came in for an attack she attempted to grab his arm but she suddenly found herself pinned onto the ground with her arm firmly against her back with her partner there before he got up and helped her up.
