#CharacterBash

I decided back in November to write a new character. Something in pretty deep contrast to my first and heavily written character [member="Seraphina Shel'tah"]. Jamie is much younger, an isolated youth girl of noble roots from Naboo. While Force sensitive, the intent was and still remains not to make her any powerful Force wielder like I worked for with Seraphina. Jamie is careless, relatively carefree, a free spirit of sorts, still searching to find herself and her place in the galaxy.

Being isolated to Naboo for the great majority of her life she's been written as pretty blind to what most would consider fairly common knowledge in certain aspects of the galaxy, making it all the more entertaining to see how other people typically react to her blissful ignorance.

So! That being said, I'd love some feedback on her, and what I could maybe do to make her as a character more interesting. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong and now is your chance to tell me.

Forewarning: If you're gonna hate on the Tay Swift then I'm just gonna #ShakeItOff, cause haters gonna hate.

[member="Jamie Pyne"] - I find myself thinking the same things about BB. What I have been trying to do is put him in dark places, horrific events and see if when I write him if his good hearted nature come out. (so far it has)

May be interesting to get Jamie into a horrific war zone or two, maybe something like that, show her the worse parts of humanity and see how she responds. Some of the best "lightsiders" I have read on this board seem to share that in common, those event shaping their character somehow. (for better or worse)

That has actually been a goal, but until the invasion rules changed recently I pulled myself from them. There was too much OOC angst for them. I personally felt it was better if I was no longer involved with them. Given the changes I will give it another chance when the time comes around. I've tried writing two dominions but trying to keep up with a dozen other writers instead of focusing on a single opponent like in an invasion, or a pair of other writing partners in a private thread was too much, and I fell behind almost immediately. That's probably the biggest challenge I have, but I appreciate the encouragement!

Taylor Swift is hot, I don't know what haters are smoking.

As for the character...

I'm going purely off backstory-in-profile here, since I haven't delved into any of your writing (yet, I'll fix that here in a bit,) I like that her innate talents manifested when she was under duress (which is a very normal thing, though to that degree infers that she is stronger with it than it sounds like you will ever write her to be.) That even as a presumed Force-less individual she would train in armed and unarmed combat is a huge plus. So many people will give their character a blaster or some other kind of mostly lethal sidearm and call it a day. Someone with actual training in a galaxy that is without a doubt trying to kill everyone in it, it just makes so much sense.

To be nitpicky, her [positive] trait Kind and [negative] Self-centered are at odds with one another, and in some situations might cause a great deal of conflict. I'd be interested in seeing how that would pan out in a situation where she and several others were in danger. That could lead to problems down the road. (Or awesome writing?)

True enough. She'll never be on the same level as my other character Force-wise. She's simply too spacey to really reign in that level of power. She wants to be good enough to help people. She's not after ancient artifacts of Force knowledge, nor is she trying to destroy the Sith. She just wants to protect the world she calls home, and the people she cares for.

I actually just switched up her strengths and weaknesses today! I wanted to go for something conflicting, given that I honestly believe everyone is a little bit of a hypocrite themselves. I don't think anyone is ever really truly 100% good, or honest, but they can try to be those things. That was my rationale behind the self-centered bit. She was raised to kind of be a class above everyone, but even though she tries to level herself with everyone, sometimes that upbringing is simply nature.

Thanks for the feedback! Super appreciated! :D I like the nitpicky when it comes to this stuff.

Well I think I have only written with you one time ever. Unfortunately the goal of that thread was never achieved but at the same time I found myself impressed with the way you write Jamie.

I almost wish I had a Jedi, or at least more light sided character, to be able to get more interaction with her since spending too much time around Vengeance would damage her beyond repair. Granted more mentally than physically but still.

Sorry to hear about that! What ever happened to that thread? I made a post and then the whole thing fizzled out right after I got Taeli to Vengeance.

We could always figure something else out, if you want to write more just send a PM :) I enjoyed the thread.

[member="Jamie Pyne"] Not got much to go on but from my initial view she's totally different in style from Sera, which is all good in having the same writer do various characters; there's a clear difference.

Um...that's it really! That's a positive. Oh, and she certainly acts without a determined end goal in site, which is evident and good because you never feel anything is "pre-planned", so just end up going with the story and character-led actions.

Keep it up. :)
