I guess since this is a thread w/IC ramifications, i'm going to leave this here:

potential candidates with direct ties to external entities such as corporations or other militaries will be subject to stringent background checks by yours truly. given recent events and repeated dark side corruption on the part of multiple members of the triumvirate, this is a necessary solution in order to maintain the security of the Republic.

Only the Judiciary committee can.

And I am the head of that Judiciary committee.

In the almost two years of serving in such a committee, investigations have only been done three times against senators ( once against a Jedi in the court of Republic law at his request) due to solid IC just cause.

The Judiciary committee will not condone arbitrary investigations on any candidates especially as none have been required before.

Whatever may have happened on the council that is IC public knowledge does not equate the senate nor its body.
