Cold Titles

If there was anything Ra knew of Vulps, he would never ignore her. Both of them stood chewing on the small snack in silence until he decided to answer her question. What he said was quite accurate and it took his words to make it become reality. Over time she had noticed a couple different relationships changing. The one she had with Vulps and the other with Josh.

While she cared very deeply for Vulps, she was not in love with him. Josh on the other hand, she felt something for him that was entirely different. Whether she could or could not admit it, she needed to explain it to Vulps now.

"Yes, I have. I can't profess my undying love to you though, Vulps. Though I do care for you so very much. Love in a romantic sense isn't there in me. I'm sorry."

It hurt her to say those words and in a way, she felt as empty inside at the moment as it was outside. Wrapping her own tail around herself, she included her arms and leaned against the wall basically embracing herself.

The meaning wasn't lost on him. It wasn't a later or a maybe. It was a no. For a moment, Vulpesen felt as though one of his own daggers had found its mark in his own body. His presences flard, dark, red, and angry, a malevolent storm which threatened in an instant to fill the room. Then, as quick as it came, it was gone. The force retreated into Vulpesen, collapsing into a pinpoint deep within his chest. Deep under his vest, and hidden away from the world. His expression, darkened in an instant flickered into passivity as he watched Riamah. On the rack beside him, his coat shifted, and poking out of the cloth was what he wanted more an any weapon at the moment. The golden triangle that was one of his mask's ears.

Long ago, he had used that mask to avoid bringing attention to the jedi when he fought, a way of separating his desire to defend from his desire to learn. Since then, it had taken new meanings, and had become a hallmark of his presence. Vulpesen wore a mask. He always wore a mask. A mask protected you. It showed nothing but the face you wanted to present and for that, noone could guess the weaknesses that might lurk within your mind. Vulpesen wore his mask, even as it rested within the confines of his coat.

"Alright." One word. It was all he had. Vulpesen was a man who burned for his desires, lessons taught long ago at the request of his mother. Those desires had brought him to battlefields, wars, and to his position as Valde. They had led him to offer this woman everything. To light a fire, was to burn down everything in your path. It was the surest way to get what you wanted. It was also the easiest way to get burned, and at the moment, the once proud fox felt like nothing more than a pile of ash.

Vulps wasn't alone when it came to wearing a mask but Ra wasn't doing that right now. For a very long time she had been told love wasn't real now she knew the truth. Life was pain, love was pain but sometimes pain was needed. The route she had taken to get to this point was pain and now she had caused him more.

What he felt at her words was clear. She might not be empathic, but she could feel his reaction. Letting out nothing but a sigh, there was no comfort she could offer him.

"I don't want to lose you, Vulps. You are part of my life and I do still need you."
