Common Mistake

Kay looked to [member="Darben Skirae"] as he spoke, still shaking as he seemed to be in a bit of shock himself. It was understandable. "You can't blame yourself. You were outnumbered and she just got a graze. With a bit of bacta treatments, she'll be fine. You did well, Darben. You kept her from being kidnapped or killed." She placed a hand on his shoulder, doing what she could to try to console him. But she knew full well what a burden guilt was.

No, he couldn't blame himself. He did all he could. And perhaps he was overreacting, it was only a small graze. But, how she had at first acted, how she was almost unconscious from shock made him think it worse. And while he had dealt with those drawing a gun on him in his own store, they always relented, or police forces were never far off. He never had to protect someone else in that situation.

"I've never shot anyone, you know...Every time I've had a gun drawn on me, it's someone desperate for credits. I either gave it to them out of kindness, or talked them down..." This was all new to him. "I think...I think I might need something to help me feel safer...the both of us."

Kay nodded as she listened, rubbing his back a little while [member="Darben Skirae"] spoke. She knew some of what he had felt, recalling the first time that she had killed someone. It was a horrible experience, just as the others after that were. At least Darben didn't have any blood on his hands yet.

"What is it that you'd like? I could have a guard posted with you, pretending to be an employee of yours working at your store." She didn't exactly want him to be armed to the teeth.

Darben was once against hesitant. Having someone with a weapon, working in his own store, it would sure make him uncomfortable. But, if it was for his safety, and for Mute's, he nodded in agreement to [member="Lady Kay"]. "That would help, a lot..." Knowing that he would be just a bit more safer slowed the shaking of his hands. He remained in silence, waiting for a doctor to come out and give them the good news he wanted.

Kay removed her hand, still noticing the worry and shock that [member="Darben Skirae"] still held. But there wasn't much that she could do about that. Only small comforts were all that she could provide. "We'll find out who did this. I promise..." She hoped that that was a promise that she could keep.

It was a little while later that one of the nurses came out to address them both. "Your little friend is doing well. The bacta treatments are taking hold. Her skin may be a bit lighter in tone from where the graze was, but that'll fix itself in time. Now she is to have bacta gel on the wound every night for the next five days. After that she'll be as right as rain." The nurse's focus went solely to Darben. "You can go and see her if you'd like. Although she hasn't said a word, she's been asking for you."

Kay looked to him. "I can stay here if you'd like..." She wasn't sure if the two would rather be alone.

He was about to thank [member="Lady Kay"] for her promise after a long pause of silence when the nurse had come out. Darben glanced up to see when the nurse stopped before them. She spoke, and he stood up immediately once the nurse was done with speaking. He took hold of her hands, shaking them in extreme gratitude. "Thank you, thank you-" He stopped and looked back to Lady Kay after she said she could stay.

"No, it's fine...I am sure you have business to attend to." Plus, he wanted to be alone. Just for a moment, to be by Mute whom he had promised to keep safe. And he would, from now on. "I'll get her back home...maybe clean up there, shouldn't be too long....Thank you, Kay. It all means a lot."

Kay got to her feet, giving [member="Darben Skirae"] a small nod with a smile. "Alright. Just make sure that she's comfortable. Don't worry about work for a bit. Give yourselves enough time to recouperate. There's no rush. Just call if you need anything. I'll have a speeder waiting to take you wherever you'd like to go."

She then turned and headed out. Hopefully the two of them would be able to brave the night together. No doubt Mute would be sticking quite close to Darben now.
