Common Peoples' Sun

Formal introductions were made and then things went downhill after that. Rozalyne wanted to record the meeting and only Valae and Stephanie agreed with it. They cited it would be normal procedures, but Jairdain knew differently. Their first time here had not been recorded and no other diplomatic sessions she had been involved with had been either. Eventually the issue was taken care of and Kay suggested they get down to the business.

Hopefully Bradshaw's words helped to lighten the mood and they seemed to, at least to her. Time would tell on that matter though.

Ignoring his flirting with Rozalyne, she in her turn looked at him. This was his first meeting under her tutoring and she wanted to see how well he did on his own without her speaking for him.

"What is on the agenda for today, Prince?"

He did make the observation this was his first negotiation where he was the one in charge, so if things started to astray again, Kay was here to steer it back on course. The ball was now back in his court and up to him if he kept a hold of it or tossed it back to one of the Silver Jedi. Preferably not to her.

Valae heaved a heavy sigh, her eyes momentarily shifted to find the blank wall to her side.

It seemed that there was little they could say that would persuade the royalty of Commenor. They were likely very used to getting their way around here; it was their home turf after all, and it would be wrong to continue to argue such a point. Jairdain was fairly quiet; perhaps it wasn’t her place to speak up on the matters at hand. At least the Prince was good-natured enough to try and keep the mood lighthearted. Valae decided that she would look past his rather obvious flirtations.

With a final nod of agreement, Valae turned to Stephanie.

“Padawan Swail,” She addressed her apprentice rather formally. “Please take some notes for us.”

Adding a small smile, she returned her attention to the rest of the table. After their rocky start, the Grandmaster relaxed her shoulders and readied her own datapad. She would make some personal notes of her own on the discussion. The momentary sense of frustration lifted and Valae was eager to get started.

“No doubt, you’ve been following recent events.” She started, “I can assure you that we’re not here to cause trouble, the last thing we want is another conflict on our hands.”

The memories of Mirial were still present in her mind, as were the invasions by the imperials that had come before. The Silver Jedi had done their share of fighting. Now that they had come to the core, they were looking to cement new relations. She only hoped that this meeting would be productive enough to accomplish that goal.

It was then that Jairdain spoke up to allow the Prince to brief them on their agenda items.

“Please,” Valae offered the young man a smile, signaling that she was ready to listen.

Bradshaw Ku

Crown Prince of Commenor
Bradshaw watched as [member="Valae Kitra"] sighed and appeared to come to some conclusion she wasn’t thrilled about. Never the less, there was a hint in her mannerisms that suggested a Jedi Master’s wisdom, perhaps the realization that taking the ‘unmovable object v unstoppable force’ path wasn’t a fruitful one. Politics may not have been her forte, but like his step-father [member="Veiere Arenais"], wisdom knows no career or subject divisions. Wisdom was wisdom, in any circumstance. No matter how much one may dislike politics.

Of course, Bradshaw didn’t know this, neither was he observant or skilled enough in the force to read much into the Grandmaster’s subtle signs. He was preoccupied with trying to gauge how well his jokes had gone down, whether they’d really worked to lighten the mood. That, and of course his attentions were still firmly locked on Princess [member="Rozalyne Kurganova"]. The room still felt rather tense, but at least nobody had taken his jokes the wrong way and whenever he was involved, that was a win.

He watched as the Grandmaster asked her padawan, [member="Stephanie Swail"] to take notes. Then spoke to the group at large referencing current events and galactic conflicts. The Prince simply nodded along. Despite his near complete lack of understanding about what the Jedi was talking about. There were always conflicts in the Galaxy, but she seemed to be referring to something rather more specific.

He might’ve facepalmed in different circumstances.

That’s what I forgot to look into
Once he’d discovered last night that one woman in the diplomatic envoy was a princess, all bets were off. Proper preparation was tossed out the window in favour of learning more about her, instead.

He could fake through it, he guessed. He’d bluffed his way through far worse sabacc hands than this. Then [member="Jairdain"] prodded him to finally start the actual meeting agenda.

Guess I’ll have to fake it
Best to start with what should be the easiest deal on the agenda, though, after the tug of war they’d just had over recording rights, he wasn’t holding his breath.

He glanced over at [member="Lady Kay"], then cleared his throat. “Yes, of course. The, umm, recent events. We don’t want any conflicts either,” he started a little shakily, before shoring up his voice to sound more confident, “so with that agreed on, we shouldn’t have any trouble with the first point on the agenda. Can we agree to a non-aggression pact between the Commenori Systems Alliance and the Silver Jedi Order? You know, no bullies allowed; you don’t steal our lunch money, we won’t steal yours?”

Kay nodded, glad that the recordings weren't going to happen. That was a relief. It meant that she could be herself a bit more. Of course there was plenty that she kept well hidden. What leader didn't?

The details of the wars going on elsewhere in the Galaxy didn't come to her very much. Certain groups go in cycles to destroy the other, each claiming to be righteous in their cause, so that in itself was nothing new. But it was good to know that the Silver Jedi Order had no intent to attack them.

Everyone seemed to be ready to have [member="Bradshaw Ku"] start them off. This was his show, his time to show that he'd been learning from [member="Jairdain"] . Yet all of that seems at risk to fall to the wayside as Brad seemed more inclined to be a playbpy than anything else. If this doesn't work, if he doesn't mature enough, then she might have to have a talk with [member="Veiere Arenais"] in regards to Brad's crown. Maybe it needs to be something that's earned instead of just being given.

Kay nodded her head a little, approving of the opening topic. That could be the only thing that they'd agree on today.

As she watched Bradshaw, did she see that signature confidence waver slightly for a brief moment? Even if he had been nervous, his tone of voice strengthened as he continued to speak. His mention of bullies and lunch money made Valae smile.

“We’ve no intentions of taking your lunch money,” she said, chuckling. “But on a serious note, the Order of the Silver Jedi can agree to a non-aggression pact between our two factions.”

Glancing over to Stephanie and Rozalyne, she offered a brief nod. That was one item on the agenda that could have a rather satisfying check-mark placed next to it. If the two powers could not agree on any of the next matters, at least they would have accomplished something today. In any case, it was a good place to start.

The Grandmaster cradled her chin for a moment, trying to decide how to put the next topic that she wanted to discuss. Leaning forward just so, she folded her hands atop the table once more. Of course, the galaxy was every changing. The Sith and the Imperials were a growing threat. She wasn’t sure of Commenor’s relationship with the First Order or the Galactic Empire, but even if those two did not pose a direct thread to the Commenori… if the day came when things changed, or another party stepped up… what would they do?

“I’m not saying it will happen,” She started, offering Kay a kind smile. “But please entertain my train of thought here. Should Commenor come under attack, would you call on us for aid? And if things were reversed, would you come to ours?”

Valae was not certain this would lead anywhere, but she was quite curious. Friends and allies were important. The Silver Jedi were willing to go where they were needed. But she was not sure about the Commenori, they seemed to like to keep to their own – not that there was necessarily anything wrong with that.

[member="Valae Kitra"] brought up a topic that was mostly saved for last. At least in a lot of her meetings with other governments it was. The topic of being at another's beck and call in military ventures. Of course the Silver Jedi were known to pick a wrong fight or two. But they weren't alone in that, as there were other governments that were guilty of the same thing.

The very likelyhood of Commenor being attacked was very low. The main reason being that they never stuck their noses where it didn't belong. They never attacked anyone, were allied among both sides. They had peace while everyone else chose conflict. They treated all in the same respect, instead of giving priority to others, or outright barring others from coming across their borders. For them it was the right course to take as it worked.

"The Commenori stay home. Our numbers are so few, as are our fleets to protect our growing borders. How could we defend ourselves if we have some of our people and fleets fighting lightyears from home? They are needed here. Past experience has proved that we cannot coubt on promises of aid. Instead we have to be able to defend ourselves on our own, be prepared to do so. Not everyone trusts our neutral stance, which I can understand. If anything, we could aid in other ways, by being a mediator, or to help with reconstruction, food and help with the economy."

She glanced over to [member="Bradshaw Ku"] . He more than likely wouldn't of known the extent of how to answer that one. So she had chimed in.
