Composite-Ceramic Armor

So everybody knows that the primary vehicle armor isn't metal anymore, its ceramic tiles on metal (Or in it). My question is how long of a Dev Thread would be required to make a Ceramic Tile armor (Vehicle or Otherwise) consisting of the Real World materials Syndite, Carbon Nano-tubes, and the Star Wars material Neutronium.

Basically I want to develop the tiles and Isostatically press (Heat Press) them into a Durasteel, Duranium, or Bronzium sheet as an armor material. It wouldn't be lightsaber resistant (It would need some umph to cut through, no lazy swing and sword play, more like chopping wood) but it would be very projectile resistant (Think Quality 10 here) and provide decent protection from energy weapons (Neutronium is energy dispersive so think Quality 8 here).

Like all Ceramic armor it would have a strike threshold and could still be penetrated, but it would take very powerful Anti-Tank rounds/weapons designated for Tank vs Tank combat, not a handheld style weapon.

There is the Idea, thank you for your time and help.

[member="Draco Vereen"]. I've thought of making a composite armor, however the ceramic Chobham posses a problem as it protects against KEP and HEAT rounds. Today's SW tanks use heavy turbo lasers. Likewise the easiest way to beat a tank with such armor is to hit it with a missile on the roof. Sadly photon torpedoes are not in short supply.

I fully understand [member="Darth Kentarch"] but everything has a weakness. Being able to destroy a tank with an airstrike is believable and realistic. Also by combining the materials with Neutronium it would assist in dispersing turbolaser strikes, not perfectly, but granting some assistance. Also even with real tanks the Chobham armor isn't everything steel and aluminum inserts are also in the armor of most vehicles.

Furthermore Syndite is heat conductive and made to resist heat, not as much as a turbolaser strike, but again, we weren't taking about something immune to all forms of damage.

Use composition armor for kinetic strikes and toss on a ray shield. The shield will keep it safe from energy and thermal attacks (turbolasers and proton torpedoes) while the armor itself protects against kinetic and explosive attacks (concussion missiles and mass drivers).

There's a good bit of evidence to support the existence of composite plating as SW canon, from a variety of sources. It's mostly been used for personal armor, but a quick scan of Wookieepedia suggests it'll do more or less what you want it to do.

Shhh... [member="Popo"] don't give away my plans...

[member="Jorus Merrill"] most of those ceramics that I found are hardly stubs on the Wookiee with little detailing about their resistance to damage.

If you flesh out technology that hasn't quite been explained or used much through development threads and repeated submissions and use, you essentially will become the reference for future submissions using similar composite armors.

In other words, feel free to use such and work it out how you see best and we'll work with you in your submissions as you push them through.

Alright, how long of a dev thread would you require for such armor?
Thank you for you input, you are always very informative.
It all depends. If you feel you need a lot of development for something, I always recommend going with your gut on such things. I know the idea is to try to get dev threads done before submitting to make sure the process is expedited, but if you aren't certain you can post a mock-up submission either in here or in your faction (assuming you belong to one) to get feedback on your ideas.

It also isn't the end of the world if you start off with 10-15 posts (if you need it) and then get told you didn't need it or just need another five or so posts if more are required.

Yeah I know, but if it were to be something like 50+ I would like to know before hand so I can plan around that.

Well what production are looking toward using for things involving neutronium and carbon nano-tubing (assuming the nano-tubing is being used for its full potential in durability)

As the US and British currently mass produce this style armor (At least technically) I would say Carbon Nano-tubing, (A subject I don't have a great understanding of) isn't being used to its full potential. If its something the Detroit Tank Arsenal can put together I would assume it isn't the highest grade based simply on need for rapid production.

Okay, going to give my ruling on this real quick since I think what you're looking for is a definitive answer.

From what I've read and have been told you're basically looking to make a new substance that has an armor rating of 8+(If were using personal armor scale of resistance here which applies to most metals). You're going to do this by mixing real life, and Star Wars canon materials. The way you're mixing them, and the end product you're trying to create is, I believe, entirely realistic and completely possible. As such, it is not an issue of if you're allowed to do it but rather how much development it will take to do so.

Due to the strength of the material you're creating, I would ask to at least see a 30 post dev thread pertaining to this material. Either it's creation, early beta-testing, the dream you had where you thought of this, doesn't matter but something along those lines. The reasoning for this is that very few materials are 8 or higher in strength, and developing a substance like that should take some effort.

I believe this is more than fair.

Done, absolutely. I have said before I will write a short novel to get what I am after, if it is legal within the rules of the board and just requires the work. I am more than comfortable with 30+ good quality dev posts for what I am asking. I was honestly expecting higher and that's why I asked, so I could get to work on a good dev thread on this project and have a rough idea of goal. It is absolutely fair from my perspective good sir.

Additionally is it permissible to have a preliminary combat test using it during a dominion in addition to the Dev Thread?

Just remember that even if the material is approved, down the line if you use it on a tank or whatever and add a shield on top of it along with other things, said tank might still be denied by an FJ or even myself.
