THE CONFEDERATE ARMED FORCES
The Outer Rim is a dangerous area, filled with zealous cults, ambitious cartels and monsters that few have encountered and survived to tell the tale. The primary sword and shield standing between the Confederacy and certain doom is the Confederate Armed Forces.
The CAF is primarily divided into two divisions. The Army and the Navy.
THE CONFEDERATE ARMY
The face of the Armed Forces and the backbone of security throughout the Confederacy, the Confederate Army is well equipped and versatile in its capabilities.
Primarily made up of enlisted volunteers, each soldier is expected to finish 2 years of training, although training time can be reduced to as little as 6 months under wartime conditions. Both the training and the equipment is supplied by the Hellion Private Military Company.
Confederate soldiers are highly capable and tenacious, however they are still people. And as such they require rest and their training takes time. Because of this, the Confederate Army utilises specialised droids in order to bolster and reinforce the organic soldiers.
The structure of the Army is quite conventional in order to streamline operability and integration, as well as allow a sense of familiarity for its recruits. The Commander-In-Chief is known as the Supreme Commander, and beneath him the ranks scale all the way from Generals to Privates.
ROLES
While the Confederate Army utilises droids, a more organic element will always be necessary. Confederate soldiers are expected to be flexible in their duties and fill gaps where needed, however certain roles are too specialised for just any trooper to do.
Below are some of the roles that troopers can specialise in:
INFANTRY:
"Vanguard to bridge, ready for orbital drop."
- Army officer onboard a capital ship
The standard rank-and-file soldier in the military. They are the boots on the ground, security to officials and locations, and the marines on starships. Equipped with versatile armour and reliable weapons, along with drop pods capable of piercing atmosphere and large structures alike, they can take on any foe the galaxy throws at them.
ARMOURED CAVALRY:
"Best job I ever had."
- Veteran tank commander
The best friend and bitter rival to the infantry, the cavalry is the armoured division in the Confederate Army in charge of supporting and transporting the troops as well as their equipment in and out of combat. The Cavalry is equipped with Infantry Fighting Vehicles, Tanks and various other vehicles capable of changing the outcome of any engagement in moments.
ARTILLERY:
"Copy, commander. Removing grid coordinates."
- Artillery gunnery officer
The god of war and a vital support division to bolster and aid soldiers on the ground. The Artillery Division is normally stationed in the rear of most engagements, however companies are sometimes deployed on the front lines alongside the Cavalry and Infantry. With access to MRLS trucks, mortars, cannons and hailfire droids, the Artillery division can sow total destruction from beyond the enemy's effective range.
COMBAT MEDICAL:
"No, shoving caf into blaster wounds is not a bacta substitute."
- Combat medic to a wounded soldier
Soldiers will get hurt and some can not be saved, but a good combat medic will go to hell and back to ensure that at least one of those statements will not be true. A crucial support division in the army, Combat Medics are always in the thick of it to either save wounded troops, or ease their passing. From medpacks to blasters, Combat Medics are able to take a life just as easily as preserve it.
SPECIAL FORCES:
"I'll swallow a grenade if I have to navigate another sewer."
- Special forces sniper to her commander
Some missions require a more delicate and precise approach that other divisions simply cannot accomplish as effectively. For that, Special Forces are deployed. Their training is extensive and their skillset is broadened to ensure success in various fields. Their equipment is specialised and their ranks are bolstered with deadly Commando droids. If something needs to happen in the dark, they are the ones to call.
AIR CAVALRY:
"Right foot first. And don't forget to kiss the nose art."
- Pilot of a gunship
The Air Cavalry is one of the primary methods for all of the other divisions to swiftly get in and out of trouble. Through flak, storms and superstition, the Air Cav flies into danger to deploy and support troops, often suffering deadly casualties in the process. Arguably one of the most dangerous divisions to serve in, Air Cav pilots work closely alongside Air Force elements for cover and utilise gunships, drop ships and shuttles to get the job done. Sometimes under heavy protest.

THE CONFEDERATE NAVY
The Confederacy, while still small, already has plenty of space that needs defending. And contrary to popular belief, planetary forces can't traverse the vacuum of space on foot. For this, a powerful fleet is needed. And few have the heritage or backing that can match the Confederate Navy.
The rapidly expanding fleet is bolstered with powerful corporations and planetary forces, however a professional standing fleet is already overshadowing this small amalgamation with unified ships and units that represent the might of the Confederacy.
For new recruits, a minimum of 2 years training must be completed, however there are various positions in the Navy and almost all of them require even further training in order to utilise the expensive and complicated systems effectively.
Quite similar to the Army, the Navy uses droids to reinforce various positions and divisions, however officers and other applicable positions will most definitely be filled by organic people rather than droids. Also similar to the Army, the Navy's ranking system is also quite conventional. However all ranks answer to the Supreme Commander alongside the Army.
There are several specialised divisions to be found within the Confederate Fleet, although most of them can be condensed into a small handful of overarching Divisions.
ROLES
The Navy can normally be broken down into four major divisions that encompass more specialised roles within them:
CAPITAL FLEET:
"You can never go wrong with a good orbital bombardment."
- Captain of a Star Destroyer
Capital ships are massive, powerful and extremely vital in the security and combat readiness of the Confederate Armed Forces. The Capital Fleet provides transport, support and border security with an intimidating presence and the firepower to back it. The Capital Fleet consists from enormous Battlecruisers, all the way down to tiny Corvettes. Command of ships and fleets are reserved for Captains and Admirals. The Capital Fleet and Army can often butt heads, with the Fleet viewing the Army as little more than barbaric brutes, who in turn view the Navy as a bunch of arrogant snobs.
STARFIGHTER CORPS:
"Delta leader, this vulture droid's giving me serious attitude."
- Starfighter pilot from Delta Squadron
Capital ships, while powerful, are still vulnerable from smaller foes and are often too big for standard patrol in a system. On top of that, troops crucially need air support to ensure victory. This is a task that can only be accomplished by the Starfighter Corps. These hotshot pilots are equipped with starfighters and supported by droid fighters to escort gunships, protect capital ships, provide air support to troops on the ground, and police the planetary space of the Confederacy.
CONFEDERATE MARINES:
"Sound the alarm, boarding party in the hangar bay."
- Marine officer aboard a capital ship
While technically part of the Army, the Confederate Marines are a special division almost exclusively found onboard capital ships and space stations. They are in charge of security and the safety of all personnel. Equipped largely with the same gear as the Army, the Marines are quite capable of quickly dispatching boarding parties from ships, as well as deploying alongside the Army to support them on the ground.
SPACE STATIONS:
"Trade Federation Vessel, stand by for docking codes."
- Station Commander to an incoming cargo vessel
A highly prestigious division with enormous responsibility, Space Stations are normally found along trade lanes in Confederate space to monitor movements, provide aid, supplies and rest stops to tired crews along their journeys. They are also important for regional security and can act as a base for rapid deployment in the event of first contact with a foreign entity. Space Stations are often supported by the other three divisions due to their vulnerability.

DROID FORCES
With the amount of recruits for the Confederate Armed Forces still being rather small, additional forces are needed to supplement the existing troops throughout both departments. Due to several planets in Confederacy space hosting several factories as well as raw materials for all of their needs, an easy solution to this shortage of manpower is the use of battle droids.
Taking major inspiration from the Confederacy's namesake from all those centuries ago, several different designs can be found in all branches of the military. From Commando Droids and Tactical Droids all the way to Vulture Droids and Tri-fighters, there are plenty of different models who are all purpose built to fill a variety of roles in the Armed Forces. These droids still adhere to the current military hierarchy and get promoted as well according to achievements and met requirements in the military.
Rather curiously, these droids' memories rarely get wiped due to the tactical advantage their memories could provide, as well as a desire to let droids take initiative when needed. Naturally, failsafes are still put in place to ensure that the memories of a captured droid can not be tampered with in order to divulge tactics and secrets that they might know.
