Akio grinned as he reached the grand atrium that was the Jewelry room. Massive marble pillars stood on either side of the arched entry, making the vaulted ceiling room with its color-coordinated expensive stone flooring seem even bigger than it was. Jewelry from many different civilizations were on display here, each from an age gone by. The thick transparasteel casing that covered them was strong enough to withstand a punch from an angry Aklyl. The sensors as well, were delicate enough to detect if anything touched them. The Chiss stood in front of the door way, he was not foolish enough to believe that the only form of security were the cameras and the casings themselves.
Reaching into his belt the chiss grabbed a handful of fine powder and tossed it into the room. Green angry lines appeared, covering the floor and crisscrossing most of area between the ceiling and it. But still not enough.
Akio spent several minutes looking at the lights, methodically calculating a plan. He nodded at last and drew his nine-section chain whip. With a snap of his wrist, the weapon wrapped around one of the glass chandeliers. Akio twisted himself into the air, flipping over a set of lasers. He twisted in midair, pulling himself up higher. With his free hand the Chiss grabbed an arm of the light fixture. The end of his chain unraveled and hung free in his hand. Akio carefully locked his legs on the chandelier’s arms and made it start swaying, building momentum towards the back of the room. In all the room there was only enough space in the middle of the room for him to land one food in a spot with no lasers. If he missed, too far or too short, then it would be a long, hard fight out.
Releasing himself into the swing, Akio summersaulted through the air. Too fast, too far, I am spinning too fast, can’t slow down! The Chiss thrust his left hand out, barely stopping himself. Suspended on hand, he panted, his sweat starting to drip down his nose. His weary shoulder ached, but Akio willed it to stay steady. His mind ran through the options quickly. He could try and land on one of his feet, but Akio doubted his arm had enough strength after climbing the building. His arm started shaking, Akio didn’t have much more time. With a hard snap, the Chiss popped himself up as high as his arm would go and whipped onto the second chandelier. The chain barely linked onto fixture, but it was enough. Suddenly the chain slipped, Akio snapped his wrist, barely in time, catching himself. Exhausted the Chiss finally lowered himself to the ground delicately.
Out of his belt he fished a keycard. The Hutts had made it for him as a massive over-ride. It only worked on one room at a time, since the Museum had placed redundant security measure to keep themselves from being completely wiped out in one robbery.
Akio twirled the card between his fingers. The security terminal was ten feet away on the other wall. By far out of his reach, he tossed it in his hand, weighing it. Satisfied, he flicked it like a throwing knife. The card cut through the air and landed in the slot. The lasers disappeared. Akio wasted no time unlocking and emptying the display cases. Earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets, and anklets was quickly dumped into the small satchel he had. The three neat display cases were cleared out in a matter of two minutes. Finally, he stowed the bag and moved to the central display case on the back wall. The transparasteel had opened wide for him like a pair of double doors to a closet. A very wealthy closet.
Here the most aged and precious of the displays in the room were kept. One was a gaudy necklace with flat sparkling diamonds found in a dying star, each the size of a man’s palm. Another was an anklet made from blue Calmarian stone made before the Republic. When it moved the white lines on the stone looked like moving waves. Beside it were a pair of earings made in Mrlssi with green gems carved in the faces of their avian gods. Lastly, what Akio came for. It was a ring, made from shining silver on Alderaan. The vibrant gem refracted light on it brighter than it came. It was perfectly carved, and alone was worth more than most worlds. It was older than most historians could guess, only adding to its mystic. A perfect ring for Dryzl.
The Chiss stowed it with the others. Those would go to her, the rest were for the Hutts—most of it anyway. He would take a cut. Now for what they sent me here for……
