Corrupting the Republic

[member="Baroness Magrath"] Ah. Got it. I insinuated your pitch was from an IC perspective so I was wondering what the OOC outline was looking like. Thanks for the heads up. Cheers and go get'em! :D

I feel for the Mandolorians that got their asses kicked by Revan, but obviously they werent true Mandolorians, were they?
I am actually referring to the genocide and surprise attack by Republic forces against the Mandalorian people after the Mandalorian wars. I believe it was some 200 or 300 years after Revan.

Hey guys, I might just be reading this wrong, but it feels a 'lil bit tense in here. Why don't we take a step back for a second?
Here, this should help:

Let's keep in mind that opinions are opinions, and facts are things that have been proven, they are true, they aren't theories or thoughts or strung-together-notions.
And that every government has a mix of right and wrong, good and bad, corrupt and just. There have been no systems that have been perfect.
Different people (and characters) might think differently. They might focus on the good of one group while ignoring the bad or they may simply prefer to point out the good. That's alright.

Especially if we're talking about IC opinions. These are IC and in no way, shape, or form reflect on the writer.
(I mention this because there has been a mix of IC and OOC opinions in this thread and we should be careful in assuming which a certain statement represents.)

Unfortunately it seems that this thread has been taken off track from that of a Discussion for a series of threads that could have proven interesting, to focusing on whose comments and opinions are in the right. I would like to mirror [member="Drapeam Nyx"] in requesting that everyone take a breath and step back. At this moment, while I would have liked to have seen this idea through, the animosity that it has been met with is making me hesitant to bring up the idea to those that would otherwise have the penultimate say, meaning that it will likely be left to die on the drawing board without it being pursued further.

I love this idea, [member="Baroness Magrath"], but I think it brings a lot of a bad emotions because as it stands right now the Non-Light sided factions on this board is sort of outweighing the Dark or Neutral ones in terms of member activity. I mean we have:

Dark Sided:
  • One Sith (active)
  • Primeval (active)
  • Red Ravens (by association, also active (is actually neutral))
Neutral-Aligned:
  • Imperial Remnant (inactive?)
  • The Fringe (technically neutral, kinda active)
  • Levantine Sanctum (mildly active)
  • Omega Protectorate (inactive-ish?)
  • Abrion Coprorate Alliance (inactive-ish?)
  • Mandalorians (active-ish)
Light:
  • The Galactic Republic (active)
  • The Order of the Silver Jedi (active-ish)

As you can see the list of actual dark-side and light-side dedicated factions are just about the same. If we were to corrupt the Republic away from what it is right now we'd be left with a scale that favors the dark side almost completely. I'd say that while this idea isn't something you should scrap it'd be a good idea to save the idea for now and refine it a bit more. Toss it back and forth with people you know and come up with ways to make it work for both you and the Republic.

For example, rather than corrupting the Republic as a whole it could be worth looking into corrupting parts of it. Making planets see your way and having the Republic be forced to fix the problem you caused them.

Anyway, like I said, I love the idea so don't scrap it just yet. Focus on the smaller parts of the Republic and you will win a lot more people by it. :)

The idea will remain, the thought of allowing it to die on the drawing board is in reference to its otherwise ambitious grandeur of focusing on the Republic as a whole. I will in the coming weeks focus on it more and slowly work on producing a more well rounded and thought out plan to otherwise execute the idea, which will involve getting in touch with members of the Republic and other members whom are otherwise interested in the premise and idea as a whole.
Likewise, if it were to get to the point of being implemented, I feel that it would be better that it be done after the March Event, thus it will be in the development stage for a while longer. This is mainly to prevent people from feeling overwhelmed by the Event and what it has already done to the map and coupling that with further anxiety of what the idea is focused upon.
For now I think we can easily step away from the Discussion and take a breather to allow our passions to settle.

Think of it in a different way. Even the idea of a corrupt Republic would have a sour taste in people's mouths. Something as simple as a campaign of misinformation could lead to an interesting plot line to RP through. Who doesn't love a good smear job in the end. It could cause a destabilization of the factions for a little bit and allow fringe systems to falter on their stance if loyalty to the Republic. It also keeps the players from having to go against the way they are creating there characters, and in the end keep the majority of the faction alignments intact ( i.e. light side, dark side and the like) But it allows the Sith and their allies to do Sith like things and lets the Republic struggle with retaining the worlds it has fought to keep. No one wants another Sidious, the mere rumor of a similar situation could cause some of the desired effect.

Just my two cents

I'd like to see someone 'corrupt' the darkside factions for once. It could be a lightside infiltration or just a derailment of the government.

But that will never happen, now, will it? Their systems are too perfect and their internal security can sniff out anyone even thinking of betraying [darkside faction]! ;)

It seems like everyone believes the Republic is really stupid and anyone can get away with anything within it lately. I guess a Jedi Council member who turned out to be Sith wasn't alarming enough for the Republic to crack down on security holes in response?

I'm fine with a corruption plot. But the game is starting to feel very one-sided.

Darkside factions are infiltrated all the time, it just happens to usually be by other darksiders or by people whom have association with the darkside.

Boan for instance despises the Sith is and is actively working towards their downfall. No ones discovered her. What I'm saying is, why don't you try it?

The One Sith was specifically designed to prevent dissent and infighting through a means thats basically IC peer pressure. Not to say it won't ever happen, but its very difficult to do.

It would be nice to see some dissent within the darkside factions. Power struggles have to be common at some point

Both of you must have missed the part where the One Sith's NPC leader and the faction as a whole was betrayed by his PC Apprentice, as well as the defection of a number of Sith Lords/Knights.

We just keep these things quiet.

Every government gots it's problems. Some 're just better at hiding it than others.
The One Sith tend to be very good at hiding it. Even though they've had a bunch of defectors, betrayers, and those sorts of folks.

Simply? Because I don't have the time on my part.

I had my infiltration days prior. But I was told that everyone was happy with their healthcare.

Good luck to you, though!

Was going to say something here, but it's best not. :)

Carry on.
