Corvus is as typical a Corellian as you can get – at a young age she was considered intrepid and maverick even by her own family. They say you should never tell a Corellian the odds for success; as for a Corellian, beating the odds is always a reward in itself. And like many Corellians she was brought up to value courage – and to recognise it when she saw it.

Corvus can, quite literally, get sentimental at the sight of a sweet ryshcate pastry or a bottle of the woody Whyren's Reserve. Despite this, she historically had little affinity for her home planet but always carried fond memories of certain events and people. This changed when the planet split in two and she cares more for her heritage than she did when she lived there.

As she has travelled the galaxy, Corvus has tried to hide many of her personality traits but at the first sign of excitement or provocation, you can see the independent mind-set; the daring (almost reckless) yet pragmatic course of action. She is, none the less, still naive in many ways, despite her wish to appear outwardly world-wise.

She’s also a voracious learner and her mind is like a sponge – able to hold facts and figures from all of the datacrons and holocrons she’s viewed over the years. To temper this near-addiction, she forces herself to focus on specific topics, less she becomes too shallow in too many subjects. And she has exceptional patience. If it’s waiting for something to happen in her training or outlasting an opponent in lightsaber sparring, she is never rash or too quick to act. Rather she bides her time, waiting for the moment to present itself before acting. It takes tremendous self-control but over the years it’s saved her life more than once — for she always plays the long game.

She is still found deferring to those of greater rank or perceived wisdom and will hold her tongue rather than speak her mind and risk offending anyone. This means she stifles thoughts and allows them to fester – and these thoughts can prey on her mind – especially if she feels there has been an injustice, or if she is in some way disadvantaged. She would never see self-promotion or preservation as a reason to speak up when the Jedi Order and its Code are concerned.

Of late she’d started to access her emotions that have been kept under lock and key for over two decades and in this regard she is in many ways like a child — unable to grasp the full nuances of both her’s and others’ emotions.

Strengths: Courageous, action-oriented, studious learner, patient

Weaknesses: Emotionally vulnerable, risk-taker and honourable to a fault

APPEARANCE

corvus_by_corvusraaf-d9pdm4c.gif

Corvus is tall and pale-skinned and her hair is most likely to be tied back, off her face. She’s pretty without being beautiful and she dresses for practicality, not effect - so is invariably in standard Jedi robes. She actually owns a few dresses but they remain in the covers they were wrapped in when she bought them - over six years on.

Physically, she’s graceful and wiry without being muscular – she’s built for endurance rather than strength.

Her body shows the effects of being a Jedi. Her upper left arm shows scarring from an incident on Alderaan – where the bacta tank did an excellent but not perfect job of patching her up. And the number of scars are growing with every window jumped out of and ship crashed (and Sith fought). The notable ones are a small horizontal scar below her bottom lip and another small one above her right eye - both the results of duels with the One Sith.

BIOGRAPHY

Corellia has always been famous for alcohol, starships and agricultural goods. Once upon a day it was most famous for one of its sons – the true archetype of a scoundrel – but that was many centuries ago.

Corvus’ family were cousins of the more famous Horns and their farming interests kept them rich enough to afford the finer things in life. As a little girl, Corvus abhorred the mass produced aspect of farming and spent as much time as possible tending her own little herb garden – in a spot dominated by the nearby snow-covered mountains.

A splinter group of Jedi – known as Corellian Jedi (or Green Jedi), were a reclusive sect of the Jedi Order serving the Corellian sector. Known for their distinctive customs and practices, the Corellian Jedi were highly independent from the Order's central governing body, the Jedi Council.

Holding the well-being of Corellia over that of the wider galaxy, the Corellian Jedi often butted heads with their superiors within the Order over how certain situations should be handled and where their duty lay.

So when Corvus was identified as Force sensitive (she had Halcyon blood in her veins after all), her family faced a dilemma. Send her to the Jedi temple where, they knew, she would achieve her maximum potential – or keep her here. Well…family is family. There was, as there always is, a Corellian saying on the matter. "A Corellian Jedi who leaves the system does so at his own peril."

So the four-year old donned the green Padawan robes and apprenticed to Master Jareck. She studiously learned all about the Jedi Lore and had basic lightsaber and Youngling Force training and was initially encouraged by her Master to develop her uncanny ability to empathise with others and to spend time in the Library.

Now, the interesting fact for Jedi about Corellia is that it has many deep underwater caverns that contain orange lightsaber crystals. And finding one was always a task set for any promising Padawan.

And so, by either good fortune or blind luck, when a terrible electric storm hit the surface, Corvus was in one of those caves. Her Master was killed – and for years she believed it was as a result of that freak of nature and so Corvus wondered if this act was in some way the Force in play and perhaps she was destined not to be a Jedi – or perhaps just not a Green Jedi?

Initially she denied her Force training and lived the life of a vagrant all over Corellia but over the next couple of years it was impossible for the young girl that was growing into a young woman to ignore her destiny any longer. And despite her affinity for her home world, she knew she’d have to travel to the Ossus Academy if she was to find answers.

Of course the Corellians are known for their prowess with ships. Because piracy and smuggling are well-known occupations of a strong number of Corellians, getting off-world was not a problem. Even pirates have a heart when it comes to one of their own. And so Corvus jumped from ship to ship until the Force brought her – together with Tracyn, who was the one who brought her to Ossus, to the training grounds of the Jedi.

Her time since arriving - over a dozen years ago now has been eventful, starting with the fruitless search for a Master, yet an absolute focus on training and challenges to overcome – none greater than a Sith trap to tempt her to the Dark side. But she has endured and once a Master herself, pledged to bring through the next crop of Padawans and restore the Academy on Ossus to the thriving seat of learning it once was.

Promoted to the Jedi Council when it was reinstated following the Grand Master's abduction on Manaan, she subsequently found she had not one but two sisters - although, being Corvus, things never run smoothly.

And then she became the Grand Master with all of the associated responsibilities — but not surprisingly took all this in her stride and her dedication to the Code has been unswerving.

Corvus is very much set in her ways. Justice is all. Honour is her armour. Her soul is pure and her word is truth. She’s changed since she left Corellia but only in some ways. Duty, fairness and responsibility are still what she believes in when she considers her position as a Jedi. They guide her and all of her decisions and she would rather die than betray those beliefs. But she’s not obsessive and realises that not everyone is cut from the same cloth.

But she can, at times, come across as a taskmaster, bent upon her aims without swerving, and may be perceived by others to view those less committed as weak. Though she may seem austere, especially to strangers, she is always consistent. Hers is simply a world of order, and she obeys superiors and rules and finds it almost impossible to believe there's any bad in them.

But all this was thrown up in the air recently when looking to liberate the planet of Ord Mirit. A Sith she’d met one more than one occasion encouraged her to open up to her feelings. When the Sith declared her true feelings for Corvus, the Jedi was conflicted. But she could not deny what her heart told her. But then…this is Corvus.

So the moment she realised how she felt, she learned the Sith was being controlled by another and then the object of her apparent affections died. Corvus sought the goddess that instigated this whole situation determined to understand what the truth is — from both sides.

True love was the outcome and a whole new chapter in Corvus' life has begun - with [member="Braith Achlys"]. Not the end. Not even the beginning of the end. It is, instead, simply the end of the beginning - and a truly glorious one too.

“You know us Corellian Jedi – notoriously contrary and bent on going our own way.”
– Corran Horn

She was a Corellian Jedi aged four. To those outside of the Order, or to those ignorant of the Jedi ways – or worst still those that purported to be knowledgeable despite limited understanding – they had distinctive customs and practices.

Some of which she rebelled against from the outset. You see they permitted marriages and had an entirely different view of attachments to the Jedi Order at large. As the centuries passed, that difference eroded, given Grand Master Skywalker’s amendments to the Code and its tenets. Like the permission of marriage and the taking of more than one Padawan.

But from day one, Corvus chose to turn her back on her family. She embraced the more orthodox approach to attachments – to remove as many external loyalties from his or her life as possible. Two decades later she looked back on that decision with a measure of regret. Life is not as cut and dried as ‘no this’ or ‘no that.’ Outsiders believed Jedi were not allowed emotions for example. Entirely untrue. Every Youngling class she took, she had the same conversation. There is no emotion, there is peace. Its meaning is that Jedi must not act on their emotions. It would be impossible to not have them for the average Jedi. But choosing to set them aside for the greater good is what differentiates Jedi from those that aspire to be.

Now, given the current state of her life, she was in reflective mood. The past few years had provided an inner turmoil. To allow emotions or not? She had the gift to deny them altogether – but found it made her aloof, unable to understand what others were going through. And, if she were honest…it made her unhappy to be a Jedi but not a person.

So she’d embraced emotions. Not to fall in love, but to be a real person again. To be empathetic to the plights of others. Was she perfect? Of course not – far from it. But she was a Jedi – first, foremost and only. The Code dictated her life. She knew that. Braith knew that. But there were times where she was simply Corvus – and why shouldn’t she spend that time with someone she loved? How was it different to spending time with a sister? Or a friend?

In these times she invariably considered what Obi-Wan would do. He had what…five romances – albeit one after Order 66. Like him, her loyalty was to the Jedi Order. In her own mind she had reconciled her circumstances. At least for now…
