"To a cathar? Nope. It's just using what fate gifted you. The powers you were born with." Jonyna offered with a smile. "You feelin' alright? I know learning can be a bit rough. I fell off quite a few branches myself when I was younger."
Braze settled down with a decisive air, his movements deliberate as he lowered himself. "I think so," he said, his voice carrying a faint weight. He exhaled a heavy breath, letting a soft sigh escape before continuing.
"I think I might take a little break... maybe figure out how I want to handle things," he added, his tone introspective, as if lost in thought.
"Alright, kiddo." Jonyna said with a calm, if curious tone. She sat down on the branch she was perched on, looking to the boy. "How're things with Jasper and you going?"
Whatever Braze was lost in thought in, Jonyna wanted to make sure he didn't get lost in misery. She had found that loop too often, and always wanted to make sure those who found it got out.
Braze shifted his weight and swung backward, hanging upside down from a sturdy branch with his arms crossed.
"Jasper and I? We're great. He's a big softy—practically a pushover," Braze chirped, a lopsided grin spreading across his face. "I don't think we've ever really had any problems. I love him."
The playful tone dipped slightly as he continued, his gaze turning towards the horizon. "I'm not so sure how I fit in with Marissa and Phy, though…" He hesitated, his words slowing, as if testing the waters of his own thoughts. "I don't think Marissa really wants me around. Feels like she just tolerates me."
His arms loosened, and he swung gently, as though the motion might help sort out his feelings. "Phy's nice," he offered with a shrug, "but I don't really know her all that well. Not yet, anyway... What about you and Ko Vuto
?"
Jasper had a girlfriend? Damn. He was cute, and she always had a thing for him. Didn't help she had taken his old job, and he was really the only male jedi around her age when she joined. At least, the only active one.
"I'm sure she's fine with you. Why not ask her if you're so worked up over it?" To her, it was that simple. Maybe not to the boy, but Jonyna couldn't say she had ever been through his phase. Even when she was a teenager, she was too busy running from stormtroopers and setting fire to hutt cartel buildings.
Jonyna paused at the mention of Ko. "...I...haven't really seen him since he got knighted, honestly. Been a bit busy with Council stuff, running the Service Corp. I wanted to give him space to make his own name, not hover over him like he was forever my padawan. But...I should check up on him."
"Well… for the same reasons anyone would hesitate," Braze admitted, his voice tinged with uncertainty. "For confirmation that it's true. For fear that it is. I'd rather not think about it—to bury those feelings in some small box, shove it into the back of my mind, and focus on other things instead. I don't want to risk creating problems or ruining any relationships."
He paused, his gaze drifting for a moment. "Jasper likes her, and that's good enough for me to accept her as family. Does it really matter whether she wants me around or not if he wants her around? It's not really my business who he decides to fall in love with. I love Jasper very much and I care about his feelings... I don't want to ruin anything that brings him joy inadvertently."
Braze's tone softened as he shifted the subject. "Why not just reach out to Ko? Clearly, you miss him." He hesitated, his next words gentle but probing. "Do you… maybe wish he'd be the one to reach out to you?"
TAG: Braze
Jonyna paused, letting the boy finish before she pouted at the thought. "You're his son. More than that, you're his adopted son. He chose you. If you don't like her, then you need to tell him. Because, more than anything, he values your opinion. Don't forget that, Braze." To her, it was that simple. Relationships could be rebuilt, found elsewhere. Family bonds couldn't.
Then Braze brought up Ko again. "I mean, I would like for him to. I wouldn't say I'm begging for him to come back, but, ya know, you gotta let your kids forge their own path sometimes. I just hope he doesn't forget I'm always here to help if he needs it."
"That's fine… he doesn't need to know that. No reason for it," Braze said, his voice steady, almost dismissive, as if sealing the matter shut.
After a pause, he added, more casually, "Maybe you should try calling Ko." He shrugged, the suggestion simple, almost offhand. "He seems to like the whole idea of family. Might be worth a shot."
Jonyna chuckled. "Maybe I should. One of these days I'd love to go out on a mission with him again. Kid is all over the place nowadays. Admittedly, having a war on two, maybe three fronts soon keeps everyone jumping around like crazy. We're never in the same place for more than five minutes it feels like..."
She let out a sigh, looking up at the sky through the canopy of the tree. "Mind you, I'm used to that. Just figured 900 years later, I'd finally be able to settle down a little. It's just kinda depressing that's not the case. Fight never ends, but that's the life I chose."
Braze frowned at that, his expression thoughtful as he hopped down to more stable footing. "Well... the truth is, peace does exist," he began, his voice steady but tinged with melancholy. "It's fleeting, though—that's why you have to cherish it. Hold onto it with your loved ones every chance you get."
He glanced at Jonyna, his somber jade-green eyes softening as he offered her a gentle smile, one that carried both warmth and a touch of wistfulness.
TAG: Braze "If I ever find it, I'll be sure to tell you." Jonyna said with a smile, though Braze could sense some sort of sorrow in her tone. She knew how to find peace, she just chose to avoid it more often than not. Her life was one of action, and while maybe she'd choose peace someday, it wasn't going to be anytime soon.
Instead, she stood, cracking her back. "We need to keep going. Sit still for too long, death'll catch up."
