- Asteroid Devourer: Powerful tractor beams pull large asteroids and other planetoids into the gaping maw of the Masticators, where whirring saws of Turadium that churn up the solid material into smaller bits that are then repurposed within internal furnaces.
- Mobile Factory: Automated assembly lines utilize the broken up asteroid material to build armor, weapons, droids, vehicles, and starships that are then shipped out to the Imperial Military for use in campaigns and other engagements.
- No Weapons: All space for weapon systems has been taken up by internal production facilities and advanced maneuvering systems, engines, and a hyperdrive powerful enough to keep the station at pace with conventional Imperial warships.
- No Strikecraft: Similarly to the lack of weapons, the Masticators' hangars are only reserved for non-combat craft; particularly cargo haulers, personal transports, and maintenance craft for use by the Masticator's crew.
With many of the Empire's enemies subdued or outright destroyed, the Sith leadership began a reprioritization of assets. Part of this reprioritization was the formation of the Sith-Imperial Exploration League, an organization dedicated to scouring the still unexplored or forgotten sectors of Wild Space and the Unknown Regions for new worlds or systems that could benefit the Sith Empire.
But whereas the One Sith sought to utilize these unexplored regions for eventual colonization, the Sith Emperor has stepped away from his forebearer's line of thinking and instead wished to use Wild Space for resource collection.
There existed thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of unexplored systems, asteroid belts, ore-rich planetoids, and a myriad of other celestial objects within Wild Space, and the Emperor saw a use for them all. So he had a massive mobile station designed and put into production that could increase the Empire's stockpile of raw resources.
What the Empire's engineers came up with was called the Creophagous-class Sith-Imperial Masticator; Creophagous meaning flesh-eating or carnivorous, and Masticator being a designation for any space-faring vessel produced to break down asteroids and other rocky bodies.
When a Masticator caught an asteroid in its powerful tractor beams, turadium teeth chewed the rock into tiny bits and then mixed the bits with alloy ores harvested from other asteroids. Water was then added to the resulting highly-pressurized ravel to form a semiliquid mixture which was then fed into pipelines leading to the smelters. These smelting pots, being essentially huge melting pots to refine the mixture, burned off impurities before proceeding to convey the resulting scarified ore into extruders that reconfigured the ore into any shape desired. Excess slag was then collected and ejected towards a nearby star or another celestial object.
Aside from processing materials, the Sith-Imperial Masticators were also able to directly work on the superstructures of large-scale vessels and were equipped with large utility and docking arms for this purpose.
