"You're asking me to change my entire philosophy of living. Yes, I want an explanation on what the code you're asking me to follow means. That's what I've been asking since the trial." Jonyna sounded a little frustrated at this point. "I can't follow a code I don't understand, because apparently my 'interpretation' is wrong..."

Valery nodded, "The code itself is not something that goes into incredible specifics, but it's a very useful guide. The first line, there is no emotion, there is peace, refers to the fact that we shouldn't allow emotion to guide our actions. We have a huge responsibility on us during the assignments we take, so it's important that we make those decisions and take action with a clear mind. Does that mean emotion will never play a role? No, that's impossible because we're all still people. But it's extremely important to be mindful of this, or else you risk far more extreme actions just purely driven by the heat of the moment." Valery hoped this one was pretty clear.

The most negative emotions, such as hatred and anger, were very easy paths into the Dark Side, after all. Though it was possible her aggression stemmed from emotion whenever certain foes appeared.

"The Second line, there is no ignorance, there is knowledge, ties into this quite well. Our decisions and the actions we take from them are important and can determine the futures of many. We want to act based on facts and knowledge we acquire, not just on instinct and ignorance. So, as a Jedi, it's your duty to grow in your skills and in what you learn about the Galaxy and its history."

"The third line, there is no passion, there is serenity, plays into it as well. Passions are very compelling and powerful desires based on emotion. They can distract you from your tasks, and send you down the wrong path. We all have the temptations, and we do give in to certain passions. A good example is relationships," Valery admitted. "The key, to me, is to find balance. You have to be a Jedi when you need to be, and not allow anything to distract you when it matters."

"Before I cover the rest, do you have questions about these? The first three lines of the Code are most applicable to the daily behavior and experiences of the Jedi."

"...only one. That's not the code I was told when I got here. To fight ignorance through knowledge; To act as the guardians of life; To bring light to the darkness; To serve others, rather than rule; To always seek betterment; To be the light in the dark. That's the code I was told. Are there...supposed to be two?"

Now Jonyna was thoroughly confused. Three codes she had to follow? Her own, this other one, and the one she had committed to memory? What did they all mean? What was the point of having two?
