Critique of Danger Arceneau

Not going off what I know of Danger from prior experience and solely going off this board...

She's interesting to say the least. You get the hint of low born dialect; that gutter trash sharp gleam to the eye. There's a phsyical and mental swagger to her, one that implies 'come hither' and 'I'm better than you' in the same step. It's always interesting because she's very much a torn woman; a woman who longs for perhaps something beyond business but can't seem to get herself out of the position she's created. The ivory tower put up around her seems more and more insurmountable each day.

By turn it is both prison and savior, pulling her up by her bootstraps and reminding her that while daddy would be proud, daddy wouldn't have a grand kid. That's the price paid, and it's become abundantly clear to Sarge that like anyone she's got something she's running from.

Something she's still working through, or trying to justify. Moving on and accepting don't always occur in the same breath and I feel she's skipped one of those somewhere.

But, by the same coin I'm a bit depressed that all she seems to be used for most days is business. I'd love to see more people sit down and have a chat with her. But that's just me. Sarge has always just treated her as another acquaintance, so he's never really expressed the deference others have had, which I imagine at this point likely rankles and leads to their tense relationship.

But either way, I'd love to see her reach out a few olive branches to people for like, a Thursday Night Poker Game or something.

Thank you very much for this. I really want to know how people view Danger Icly and where they think believe she needs more growth on.

You are absolutely right, she needs more interaction beyond business. Connections - the human kind. Something I think she's been lacking because as you said, " torn woman; a woman who longs for perhaps something beyond business but can't seem to get herself out of the position she's created. The ivory tower put up around her seems more and more insurmountable each day."

This is something I've been attempting to change, ironically enough it began with the interaction with [member="Alric Kuhn"] and is steadily progressing from there.

He seems to be the catalyst that made her realize exactly where she's at, and that yes -- she has networks and connection up the ying-yang ... but honestly less than a handful of friends, and lesser still only one of those friends actually know who she really is.

I'll definitely be trying to have her make more interactions and hopefully, flesh out more to let other people in beyond the position of the "trade queen" she's grown into.

I have time, so I'll give you my serious critique.

And by serious, I mean as serious as I can actually get.

With that being said, here we go. I like to think that I helped craft Danger into what she is now, not only by torturing her throughout her story, but by actually "growing up" with the character and shaping everything from the beginning.

But, my original thoughts of Danger as a character were "what the hell is wrong with this queen". She was a wild card. Uncontrollable. In some ways, she was predictable (mostly in the ways that I always knew she was going to get pissed off in the end). No matter what happened ICly between Nox and Danger, she always was pissed off on stage. It made it a bit difficult to actually RP with her sometimes because I almost always knew the outcome of what was to come. Kind of like beating my head against a brick wall. I'd lose in the end, no matter what I'd do.

Of course, that's not necessarily a bad thing. It created a powerful dynamic. When the cracks in the wall started to show up, Danger really started to shine as not only a character, but as an actual legitimate person with actual issues. I'd say, of all the people I've had the chance to RP with, Danger really turned out to be one of the most realistic. Maybe it was also because it was a lack of Force Powers, but she had weaknesses and glaring problems (one of the reasons I prefer to RP NFU).

She would get hurt and suffer. Not only was her suffering mentally, but she suffered physically (serious, Future Lower Back Problems. How have you not touched on that, yet?). It was one of the things that made her unique to me, because a lot of characters I've known and had the chance to RP with are very one-dimensional. They don't feel a lot of pain, they don't take issues realistically, and they always just "rub dirt on their wounds" and move on like nothing has changed. Danger, on the other hand, the issues that plague her today are carried over from those that we created when we started these two.

As with most people in life, their sufferings carry on from the past and it's difficult to get over any situation easily. Danger is constantly growing and changing (or rather, I should say she's constantly trying to grow and change), but always getting beat down. If it wasn't for her getting her actual business off the ground (to which I'll take the compliments / blame since she stole my gorram business), she would've been very one-dimensional.

In the end, the character is tough to get along with. She's tough to form any kind of relationship with. That's a good and a bad thing. RP'ing with Danger is like mining for gold. It's a hell of a lot of work, but if you even manage to reach the gold, it's a good pay-off in the end because it'll inevitably make your own character's life much richer. The bad part about it all is that it's very tough to actually get any progress with the character into forming something more meaningful than what you'd start out with. RP'ing with Danger is really for extremely stubborn people who are willing to torment themselves and their own characters (which is really what RP has always been about).

Overall, I can't say she's any less than a great character in terms of concept and just aesthetics of personality.

Now, if this wasn't what you wanted as a critique. I don't know what to say. I kind of just started typing and didn't stop until right about now.

And like that, we've found why people like you and I keep trying.

In reference to these two things... I think i finally got her to that point where she is finally connecting with people. I see that when I rp Danger with [member="Judah Dashiell"] and with his son [member="Makai Dashiell"]. She's finally branching out, she's finally letting people in. Maybe it is because she realized it is fething lonely to be on top - and a life worth living isn't much when you are completely alone.

What can I say about Miss Arceneau?

Definitely an enigma. Here we see a woman literally at the top, yet she has little in the way of real, tangible connections that would make staying at the top worthwhile. She's encapsulated herself into a bubble (willingly or without knowing) and now that she has reached a certain age there's a slow dawn on her that there is nothing to show for it. Danger has no heirs to pass her business on to. There's no one waiting when she gets home.

Yet, as Noxu wisely pointed out, writing with this character is like mining for gold. Only you're mining for gold with a common table spoon. Its tough. She's probably going to be fake with you at first. Yet if you see the hidden gem, you're going to keep putting that spoon to the dirt. After a long bout of threads, you'll see a glimmer of gold and then you're hooked. You want to see what buttons to push. How to get more of the real Danger to emerge.

Which is not a complaint. Some of the best things around are hard fought. If you're just as stubborn and willing to put in the work, the reward is certainly there.

Damn it. I never found that glimmer of gold.

What the hell is wrong with me?
