“The patterns persist though, Enyo,” Tamara said. “The Jedi rule in peacetime until their complacency brings conflict through which they fall and must return to their basic principles. The Sith dominate in chaos until their arrogance destroys them after which they return to the shadows. Democracy proves itself to be the worst system of rule…except for all the others. The galaxy has suffered through so many evil or incompetent or insane rulers it barely matters anymore. It has never, however, come under the rule of a good ruler – perhaps that would be the most terrifying of all outcomes.”

She paused whilst Enyo opened the box.

Inside was a larger crystal that before. If Enyo took it in her hand and allowed her mind to commune with it…

An upland vista. The wind blew cold and crisp, the air full of the sweet smell of sap and pollen. The taste of ozone in the air as lightning crackled above. The beautiful scene of the mountains descending down to the lowlands far below.

Tamara stood back and smiled at the reaction.

The cyborg cocked her head slightly, acknowledging that the enigmatic woman had a point. "There are no good rulers," Enyo opined cynically. There were only more or less destructive ones. There was no point in pursuing lofty ideals or trying to leave your mark upon the Galaxy. "Just the same, endless, pointless cycle."

Turning her mind away from these philosophical questions, she accessed the crystal. Abruptly, all her melancholic thoughts were swept away by the crisp, cool wind. It brushed against her skin, and she felt the cool chill touch her. The scent of pine, sap and pollen invaded her nostrils and she savoured it. Snow descended from the heavens, and she felt herself trembling with cold as light spottings of snowflakes fell upon her face and shoulders. Distant lightning crackled, slashing downward from the heavens.

Finally, Enyo withdrew from the crystal and returned to reality. The smile that formed on her lips actually reached her eyes. It was a genuine one. "Thank you," she said. Unlike before, she actually sounded animated, almost emotional. Gently, she closed the small box.

“Indeed, that is why it is such a terrifying prospect,” Tamara said softly.

“Still, I’m glad you liked it. I believe 5,000 credits more when delivered was my price. It is a method of transmutation I have been studying for a while. In many ways it is a form of sensational alchemy. Regardless, I hope you enjoy it. If you wish for another I can make one, or if you desire my help in other areas you can reach me on the same number.”

By now Enyo had composed herself again. Reaching into the pocket of her leather coat, she fished out a stack of credits, laid it on the table and pushed it over to Tamara. If the darkhaired Master counted them, she'd find that they were exactly five thousand credits.

"I might take you up on that," she said in a neutral tone. Her expression was stoic and serious again. "It is well-crafted." She got up from her chair and put the book she'd been reading away. Clearly she was not one to linger and socialise. Her capacity for small talk was limited. She stuffed the precious box into her pocket. "Our business is concluded. Farewell."
