Nir watched with a keen eye. Channeling the Force through himself rather than the wind was a new concept. However, it wasn't all that different in practice. He just needed to move, right?

The boy eyed the ceiling above him. He was a natural climber as a Denik, and he thought for a moment. His eyes wandered over to the wall.

In a burst of speed, he jumped from the wall, to the ceiling. He certainly wasn't as fast as Aris Noble Aris Noble , but it was fast enough one could mistake him for a mirage.

She had hoped to gleam some sort of mystical understanding from seeing Aris perform his steps, but reality quickly crashed down onto the poor girl as Mahsa’s eyes could barely keep up with his movement… leaving her no time to try and study how exactly the Epicanthix had achieved it. Golden eyes quietly drifted to look back at Katarine, hoping that maybe their tutor would offer some words of compliment for Aris that might clue her about what she needed to do, but there was only so long she could wait before it became awkward.

After all, Katarine had already stated she was next—

The sudden woosh of wind earned a startled squeak from the girl when the Cathar decided to display his own skill. He’d gone from the floor to the wall, and finally the ceiling, while only requiring a little bit more time than Aris used to cross the room—and his movements had been almost as hard for the Kazelrrian to follow.

"R-Right… my turn next."

She could only hope no one present could hear how fast her heart was beating inside her chest as Mahsa got ready, fiery hues crawling up the tips of her hair in a vibrant display. Bend your knees… Her body followed as she thought back to Aris’ words and the simplicity of the movements he’d laid out. Maybe it truly was that simple, and she was just overthinking it?

Her eyes closed as the Kazelrrian focused on her breathing, deep inhales and soft exhales as she tried to feel the Force around them, attempting to redirect it towards the soles of her feet. Then take a step— "Aah!?!"

In the blink of an eye Mahsa had found herself sprawled on the ground, unsure if the accident had been a misuse of the Force or simply a misstep caused by her nerves. "I-I’m okay…"

Two of the padawans seemed to get the hang of it quickly. Kat watched as Aris and Nir demonstrated their skills.

“That was very good Aris and Nir.”

Mahsa was not so lucky. Katarine started forward when the girl fell but the padawan said she was okay. That was good. They didn’t need any injuries.

“It’s okay Mahsa. We all take it at our own speeds and we all have our own strengths. I think it might help if you practice pulling the Force toward your legs. You have to feel the energy building in the muscles.”

She turned to the two male padawans. “Do either of you have advice for her?”

Sometimes peers could explain things better.

Aris took half a step forward as Mahsa fell over, fully intending to try and catch her. But he didn't. Rather, he lowered his hands as she caught herself at least and said she was okay. He glanced to Master Ryiah, his expression thinning for just a moment. But.. Advice?

"Don't overthink it. Just- do it."

That's how he was with it. He doubted it'd be helpful, but, that was the only advice he had.

The fall hadn’t hurt as much as the embarrassment she currently felt as the Kazelrrian got back up and dusted herself, fiery auburn shades licking at the bottom of her hair that further highlighted the rosy tint on her cheeks and tip of her ears. An apologetic smile was given to their instructor as Mahsa did her best to keep her own emotions from radiating outwards, unwilling to add more to the woman’s plate than she already had.

She was thankful for the attempts of everyone at trying to explain the abstract use of the Force, with Katarine’s advice being the most solid as she reminded the padawan to try and focus the energy into her legs. Aris’ advice was more of an encouragement, the Epicanthix reminding her to not overthink the process, while Nir likened it to the feel of the wind.

"G-Got it." No, she really didn’t, but Mahsa was thankful regardless. The girl took a deep breath before closing her eyes, attempting to rid herself of most distractions as she focused.

One thing had become evident even as she’d read countless books, the Force seemed to manifest differently for each individual. Some things were similar enough for them to find common ground with one another, but at the end of the day no one would know better than themselves how it truly worked.

It was up to her to figure out how the Force could coordinate with her intentions… but that was easier said than done.

Sound won’t help this time, It had taken a while for her to understand that the soft harmonize that whispered into ears on occasion had been from the Force, often guiding her steps to places it perhaps believed the young girl should be. The wind then…?

She’d never considered it before, but now that the idea had been planted by Nir the girl was willing to give it a try… even if the environment inside the ship made it somewhat hard. There was no natural wind here like in the Temple or the surface of other planets, but she could still feel a tickle on her skin as the air circulated throughout it.

Focus on pulling it… and gather it into my legs. The thought was left vague purposely as Mahsa avoided thinking on how this would work, the words of Aris echoing in the back of her mind. It was gradual at first and almost imperceptible, but just when the Kazelrrian had been about to give up she’d felt it.

The energy was mellow and inviting as it slowly gathered, warming up the skin around her legs—her calves in particular—as Mahsa did her best to guide her into her muscles like Katarine had instructed. Just do it… I can do it…! She slowly shifted into a running position, ignoring the racing heartbeats within her chest as she prepared for a second attempt.

"H-Here I goooaaah!!!" It had worked, but the burst of unnatural speed had been more than what the Kazelrrian had thought it could be as she suddenly found herself darting off in a straight line—with a wall rapidly closing in.

"H-Here I goooaaah!!!"

Katarine was happy to see the girl speed off, but less happy when she saw the destination. Perhaps she should have talked to them about hitting the brakes.

She reached out with the Force, intending to lift the girl up and let her finish her sprint in midair so she was not hurt.

Oh, she figured it out.

Aris was all smiles as Mahsa suddenly took off. She was fast! This was good! She was- oh no she wasn't in control. He blinked as he reached a hand up to.. Do nothing. He couldn't stop her from running. Thankfully, though, Master Ryiah could. He smiled at that, nodding his head in approval. This was good. She could use the skill, so, this was just good.

Thanks to Master Ryiah she was spared the brutal hands-on lesson of what happened when an unstoppable force collided against an immovable object. She felt weightless as the Force wrapped around her small body, keeping the young Kazelrrian’s feet away from the ground long enough for Mahsa to finally release the energy in her legs.

"T-Thanks," A heartfelt nod was given to the older woman, mindful to be grateful of her assistance despite the embarrassment currently gnawing at her insides. "I’ll w-work on it m-more."

Her feet gently touched down once it was clear the girl was not a danger to herself, before she caught sight of the smile on Aris’ lips and the nod of approval he gave. Sure, the execution hadn’t been the best, but she had done it… and that was the first step.

It was then that Nir rejoined them on the floor, a nervous chuckle escaping Mahsa before she nodded in response. "Y-Yeah, I’m okay." Just mortified about the way things had gone, but that wasn’t something for the Cathar to worry about.

Katarine was pleased that all of them could work the move now, even if it might need a little fine tuning for a few of them. That was the life of a Jedi after all, constant training and constant fine tuning.

"You all did really well today. I'm very proud. I think we are about done, but in the future please continue to practice so you can get even better with force speed."

She beamed at them all, happy that she had managed to teach a successful class.

"The best way to practice is for you to race each other of course."

She smiled slyly, wondering if the padwans would take the bait.

Race?

Aris had a calm smile on his face as he listened to what he thought was the conclusion of the lesson, but at the mention of a race, he looked.. Concerned. If he raced with the others, would that really be fair? If he raced with Mahsa, who just started learning, would that -really- be fair? He kept a neutral expression as best he could, just glancing between the others. He would, if they wanted to.

She had assumed the lesson was in its final moments as Mahsa listened to the words of their instructor, nodding along in agreement and understanding. She’d committed that feeling into memory, aware that she’d need to practice it more, but aware that it would become second nature with time—

"W-Wha—" The unexpected mention of a friendly competition instantly halted her train of thought, golden eyes fixed on Katarine as she repeated it back—just to make sure her ears had heard right. "... a race?"

The logic behind it was infalible. A race would spur them to go as fast as they could, but it would also force them to work on their control too—two birds, one stone really. Her gaze shifted to the Cathar first, his words showing that Nir was up for the challenge, before she gazed up at the neutral expression on Aris’ face.

Was he not excited about this?

"It sounds f-fun," she finally spoke up, a faint smile on her lips. Sure, she lacked experience handling the Force unlike her classmates, but didn’t that mean she could potentially benefit the most from this opportunity? "I-If everyone’s in agreement, of c-course."

Katarine smiled at them all. They were hesitant but it was all in good fun and designed to get them to practice.

“Just a friendly competition. Don’t worry if you don’t do well. We are just practicing. We are here to help each other. Two laps around the dojo. The first one back where wins!”

“ Get ready.”

She waiting until they had lined up and were ready.

“Get set!”

She grinned, but would be on hand to help them if there were any issues.

“Go!”

She listened attentively as Katarine laid out the expectations for their race, the girl quietly nodding along to show she understood. Okay, that’s not too bad. Two laps sounded reasonable enough, and it’s not like Mahsa expected to actually beat Aris or Nir anyways.

“Get ready.” She quickly scrambled to line up then, finding herself in the middle of Aris and Nir as they got into position. “Get set!” She tried to remember the feeling from before, channeling the energy down to her calves though cautious of how much she stored in them this time around. “Go!”

With that she was off, the Kazelrrian giving it her best as she tried to control the Force into her favor in the hopes that she’d at least be able to somewhat keep up with the two bigger boys.

Nir had taken the moment before they set off to get into a running stance. He still didn't know if he could do more than short bursts, but...here they went.

Three.

Two..

One...

And they were off, and...

Only a second later, Nir felt himself slowing down. His body couldn't yet keep up with the Force Speed, and he knew it.

But what he also knew was that he was much more agile than the other two. With a leap, he flung himself forward and stepped on the air. He couldn't keep up with Force Speed, but he could try and push forward anyways with his aerokinesis. Move the air out of the way in front of him. No Drag.

Katarine watched the race as all the padawans took off. There was a little struggling but they would get there with time. The important thing was to practice and keep at it.

Aris was the fastest and won the race easily but the others were doing well too and it was fun to watch them.

When it was over she waited for them to catch their breaths before speaking.

“You all did wonderful! Keep practicing and it will get easier and easier.”

She beamed at them all, happy to have lead a successful lesson.

“Class is dismissed.”

((Seems like a good stopping point??))
