STRENGHTS
  • Airtight - the energy-shielded plastithread/synthmesh fabric blend is flame resistant and protects the wearer from exposure to hard vacuum
  • Integrated - the helmet features an integrated heads-up display that can be customised by pilots to individual preference and allows cockpits to be less cluttered with fewer gauges and readouts
WEAKNESSES
  • Non-combat - the flight suit is designed for wear while piloting a starfighter does not provide the necessary protection for direct combat operations
DESCRIPTION
The Dark Empire Flight Suit was developed around 900ABY following the declaration of the Dark Empire to equip the new and rapidly expanding Starfighter Corp. It first saw action during Operation Shadowhand.

The flight suit is an evolution of the earlier Armada Flight Suit Mk. II, developed during the Third Imperial Civil War. The system consists of an energy-shielded plastithread-synthmesh fabric blend flight suit, a helmet, and a chest rig. Small panels within the arms and legs of the flight suit constrict and expand based on flight telemetry data to avoid pilot blackout when pulling high-G maneuvers within atmospheres. The engineers at Liquidity Textiles controversially opted for an open-faced helmet to improve comfort and situational awareness. A breathing mask, fed by a small breathable oxygen supply fitted into the ejector seat, can be affixed to allow a few hours of survivability in the event of systems failure or the pilot going extra-vehicular.

As with other uniforms of the Dark Empire, each flight suit is subtly imbued with Dark Side influence by Church of the Dark Side practitioners. This creates a sense of loyalty toward the Emperor in the wearer that is potent for weak-minded individuals and less pronounced for those with a strong will.
