Trying to find a Dogfight Foe
Mae saw the sudden appearance of their target frigate and a small group of fighters making their way towards her and the other small group that had split off from the main group. "Enemy ships detected at coordinates 3.15. They are coming out of that debris field." She let the others know before rolling her ship to engage the incoming fighters.

"Punch shields to double front and then use a kyber cell to reinforce rear shields!" She commanded to her crew. Within a few seconds, while on her way in the direction of the enemy fighters, she had 200% forward shields while still covered by 20% to the rear. "Gunners, you are set to free fire, hit'em when you see them" She commanded her crew once more.

The quickness of her interceptor put her on the enemy fighters in a matter of seconds. She lit one up and sent it breaking up in to space dust as her gunners disabled and destroyed another. She caught incoming fire as she passed through them however, which dropped her forward shields to 150%. As she swung around to trail one of the stragglers from the dispersed fighter squadron, she re routed shields back to full coverage leaving it roughly at 95%.

Before she could get back into position on the starfighters rear, she began to receive fire from the frigate. The one drawback to having a quick fighter was it often left her in such situations without backup. She checked her scanners hoping that the other ships may be in the fight soon.

Bane smiled, well if you could call it that. His fangs caught his lip and it looked more scary then a smile should. The frigate had taken the bait. It was coming straight for his small group that had broken from the others. His smile was not because they had taken the bait though, it was because it was a single frigate and the thing was half the size of his own ship. He knew that the Fang looked like an easy target and he was planning on this. He however, needed to close the gap before his trap could fully materialize. "Close the distance at full power until three kilometers and then come about to port at full capacity." He knew that maneuvering the beast into position would be a pain, but the frigate coming at him would do half the work for them. "Starboard side gunners, be ready for a broadside, but do no reveal yourselves until I give the command to fire." He ordered his crew.

Bane then looked to his starfighter control officer. "Get our fighters into the fight to backup Red 1!" he barked. Moments later, the full compliment of starfighters left the belly of the Fang and made their way, cloaked, in Red 1's direction at full speed.

Objective: 2 - Junk some pirates

"Ships detected! Frigate, unknown class, fighters in the air. Heading towards The Fang and escort."

By the time Khorus finished his report, succinct as it was, many eyes had given the sensor repeater a quick glance. Not so Dankar, who's eyes were studying it intently. Velocity indicators suggested the ship was making a leisurely pace towards the freighter in direct contrast to the fighters it had launched. Such was curious, but maybe that was the best speed that it could make given the damage it was reported to have taken. Indeed, the emanations from the ship suggested unsafe operating conditions.

Either way, the ship was moving towards allies and opening fire. Had the Tarlanc stayed with the Priddy fleet the pirate ship would have been on the same vector as Darkclaw's ship leading to crossfire concerns. More likely though the other ship would merely have been out of range of the frigate-grade weapons. The Star Destroyer might have the range to hit it though. Fortunately the Custodian-class vessel had changed position and if his estimates were correct the other ship was just barely within range...it would be for a few minutes.

"Weps, ion cannons. Hit 'em. Helm, keep the target frigate in the ion cannons cone of fire."

"Debris field making it difficult to get a target lock, captain. Accuracy may suffer."

"Noted. Fire for effect."

Ion cannons would degrade the other ship's performance without unduly risking friendlies. It might even be more effective given the enteched fighters the other ship was supposed to be carrying.

Objective: 3 - Be sneaky

He hadn't considered how to show the rest off the team where he would cut power. Ordinarily he might use a laser rangefinder to mark off a section or pinpoint the junction box, but the rejoinder about thermal scopes floated back to the forefront of his mind. Other species saw things differently, just as he tended to hear a bit more than the typical human. So that was out. He could try to shove a mental image into the others' minds but that was just rude, not to mention intrusive. That left crude and imprecise verbal directions and the hope they wouldn't be misunderstood.

"The power relay is about twenty meters left of this side's watchtower. As far as I can tell it controls systems ten meters on either side of it. Get going, you'll know when it's down."

He physically kept looking through the electrobinoculars but his attention turned elsewhere. A mental picture formed of the box contents: it was a mix of old and new technology. Heavier-gauge wires twisted together to form circuits, of which there were a few inside the relay box. In older systems these would be connected to breakers on down the line, but in this case they were hooked into a regulating computer. It made for a smarter, more regulated system. It also made a nice target.

One of the wire clusters was running hot and had burned a bit of insulation off. He didn't know if it was poorly-connected or what, but he used it. A bit of a bend brought another line close enough for a spark to sizzle through and burn the other insulation, embers that were then fanned by the Force and lit into tiny flames. By themselves this wouldn't be much to worry about and just a few trickles of smoke would result, but another couple bends brought multiple clusters together. An unexpected amount of power surged into the computer, causing a rather nasty overload and a correspondingly loud bang. And just like that all the power within a section went out.

Veino measured out the directions with his eyes as Audren spoke. starting with the origin point and indicating the area whose power would go out. He gave a nod and shimmied through the grass.

He moved slow, cautious, wrapping himself in the Force and moving with the wind as the grass shifted. The Force shifted somewhat as Audren manipulated it. Then there was a pop and the smell of smoke as the circuit caught fire. It would bring attention to it, but Veino could work with that.

He rose to his feet and ran in a crouch, staying low to serve as a smaller target, until he threw himself against the wall. There were voices and sounds from the far side. He paused for a few moments, but then pressed himself against the metallic surface, feeling the armor adhere to the material as he started up.

A liquid-cable cord was looped around his belt and he pulled it up with him until he slid over the side onto the rampart. There were voices below him as they tried to work the details of what had happened. He anchored the cable around a support strut and tossed it over the side for the others.

The frigate rocked under the barrage of ion fire. The Captain hissed, his eyes darting around the displays on the bridge.

"Large freighter moving our way. Other warships coming this way." There was a note of panic in the sensor reader's voice, but it faded away quickly.

"Very good. Full speed ahead, set course for the big freighter," There was a measured level of assessment in the Captain's voice, before his reptilian lips curled back to reveal sharp teeth.

"Data is downloaded and encrypted!" An analyst called out. The captain's smile grew even larger. "Place it in an escape pod, eject all of them that will function. Time it with a salvo of missiles."

There was a hurried buzz of activity across the bridge as someone took the datacard and sprinted from the bridge towards the center of the ship. In the burning armory, all hands were gathered to help load and aim the concussion missiles.

Whistles and alarms seized through the corridors, but they were ignored with feverish dedication.

Minutes clicked by. The Captain watched the shield and engine capacities drop slowly, one by one.

"Redirect all power to weapons," the Captain said after a long moment. He flared his nostrils. "Fire."

The ship shuddered under the recoil of the remaining escape pods and a full salvo of concussion missiles towards the small ships clustered around the freighter. They arced through space towards the vessels.

But the frigate was out of power, but its trajectory continued, holes exploding in the hull as the damage control systems failed, leading to secondary explosions tearing through the corridors.

The captain closed his eyes, held his breath, and awaited the inevitable.

The sensor web began to complete as chaos broke loose ahead. The comm and sensor pits both coordinating to produce triangulation for the gunners as Niki watched with scrutiny as a familiar hull broke cover.

And directly for friendly vessels.

"I believe they intend to keep us from firing Ma'am." A sensor officer informed her, receiving a withering glare as she simply stared at the man.

"Is that so? Ought to send in the droid fighters then don't you think?" She replied with a sweetness that rivaled the darkest of chocolates.

"We have enteched fighter contacts also Ma'am." Communications informed her as she let her gaze slide over the bridge. Matthew simply bit his tongue, having seen a similar action performed by a late admiral they both had admired.

"Reinforce the others with the droids. Keep an eye on-" She spoke as a Missile barrage spewed from the doomed frigate.

"Hoo boy they are spitting in the wind huh?" Matthew whistled at the display. Niki growled as the droid starfighers began to scramble forward and into the fray behind the friendly vessels. The final squadron not fully deployed but still following behind the others in a comet tail fashion.

"Have a split detachment of the corvettes move up to assist as well. No telling how many of those blasted soul sucking fighters are out there." Niki finalized her orders as 1 CR90 and 1 DP20 broke formation first and arranged themselves at the front of the detachment. 3 Disruptors took up position behind them as all vessels spun up their systems and dropped weapon power and Shielding to the rear attempting to maximize their engine power before burning hard for the interior of the system.

The scanning pit made note of the trajectories of the missile barrage, as well as the enemy vessel they had originated from. The information was relayed to the gunnery crew's as the Hypervelocity Cannons altered their angles and peered through the sights.

A negative sprang from each in turn until a pair of affirmatives rang across the comms. A pair of shells erupting forward, one slightly ahead of the other as the shots threaded the needle between asteroids and outgoing droid fighters. The inert rounds silent in the void of space without friction or any other factors acting upon them. Aimed for the nose and throat of the offending vessel in question to throw off the trajectory from afar.

The scans began showing different flight paths of each missile, as well as some oddities when compared with the system scan net that were fickle and requiring more focused attentions than immediately available.

ACTIONS TAKEN
  • 5 Corvettes moving into the system at high speed to aid in fighting the entetched starfighers.
  • Staggered Hypervelocity Rounds against the enemy vessel attempting to alter the ships trajectory. First impact aimed at the nose and the second impact aimed at the throat/belly of the vessel.
  • Incomplete data show deviations in missile trajectory. Further investigation needed.

Trying to find a Dogfight Foe
Now supported by the others and friendly starfighters buzzed around her, diverting the attention of the enemy craft, Mae was able to get back into the fight more on an offensive standpoint now instead of defense. She swung her interceptor around and her crew gunners split another enemy starfighter in half before she could get it in her own sights.

Just as Mae was about to rejoin the others in mop up duty, she saw the barrage of missiles exit the enemy frigate, but only there was something strange about it. It may have been the fact that she was so close to the frigate that it caught her eye, but there was a missile like tube, maybe even a funky looking escape pod, fired in a different direction as the missiles.

Mae paused for a moment, pondering why it would be synced with the missiles. There had to be something worth investigating, however, now was not the time. She was in the heat of the battle and needed to get back into the game. She once again swung her interceptor around and back at another enemy fighter. She will just have to investigate it further, after the fight, if she survived that is.

Their progress quickly led them into battle. Sure enough, the frigate charged them. She opened the ray shields only for an instant to unleash a volley of missiles into the oncoming enemies before immediately shutting back up and remaining so. Relying on the heavy blaster cannons to aim at them and the blaster turrets to help handle the lighter craft.

While the weapons were powerful, the shields were the main attraction. She tried to maneuver herself in such a way that she would expose the most area while maintaining an active firing rate. The purpose wasn't of course to get hit. But just to make it look easy to hit. She'd still do her best with the average maneuverability/speed of the ship to avoid it, but the shields would easily take the force of most firepower outside the frigate itself. She kept her own heavy blasters going, and very carefully timing her ray shields to unleash more volleys of concussion missiles. Even with the ray shields down there was good armor and particle shields to get through, so it wasn't totally defenseless in that time.

Her hands twitched as the battle went on, each time the shields went up, each time the shields took a hit. She was just waiting for something to give out, something to screw up or surprise her. Far from fearless, but she was here. She didn't speak to anyone but the droids on the ship, mainly just alerting them of locations and letting the droids get to firing with the turrets. There was little else to do. Normally she'd have run by now.

Such fear seemed unnecessary, as on top of the total groups power and ship sizes and quantities, and her shields currently holding up against the relatively low firepower due to how spread out it was, Bane and his larger ship plunged forwards to the target. Which further took attention away from her. Something she was perfectly happy with. Allied ion cannons fired on the frigate. She didn't have the time to consider anything else as the frigate put whatever it had left into it's firepower. She ducked her ship down putting the shields on the roof and trying to duck below the missiles. She could feel one of them buckle under the pressure and the generators whirring as the struggled with the sudden quantity. But the rest were able to hold up. She looked up, this went... easier than she expected. To be fair, they probably could have done this without her entirely and received an identical result however. It seemed their target was horribly outnumbered and outgunned. She didn’t even notice their trick of information as she started to calm down.

“Are… we done?” she said, mostly to herself.

Really sorry for delay. And hope I didn't mess up my post with it as it's hard for me to keep up once I get behind. Or at all in stuff with many people. Not the best post but thought maybe I should do something instead of just dropping it.

As the ship came about, Bane shouted over the inner ship communications and to his gunner commander, "Fire full broadside and then fire at will". With his command made, the gun ports on the starboard side opened and all twenty-four Heavy Turbo Lasers and twelve Heavy Ion Cannons unleashed a devastating barrage upon the enemy frigate.

Bane did not miss the fact that the frigate was already doomed before he fired his broadside, but a little overkill never hurt anything, especially when dealing with pirates.

After the heavy broadside was let loose, the 16 Quad-Ion Charged - Point Defense Cannons came out of their hiding places and began to pelt all enemy fighters within range around the ship. They did not do much damage, but did a fantastic job at disabling shields if not complete starfighters themselves. "Coordinate your fire power with the friendly fighters in the vicinity" he ordered his gunner commander. The commander saluted and followed Bane's orders precisely. The only unsuccessful action in this entire endeavor was the strength of the Fangs shields. It took far too big of a beating on its approach path. One of the primary shield generators had collapsed at the amount of firepower it had absorbed, probably because the Fang took the majority of the missile barrage from the frigate, however, the second shield generator and secondary shields kicked in to cover the weakness nicely.

"Death!" The captain hissed, his long tongue snaking into the air. "Let us go to meet the gods with pride." The escape pods had hurtled back into the debris field, powered down, and the ship shuddered in its dying convulsions. The engines had been blown out the side, half the armament had been destroyed by its ammunition storage detonating.

"Incoming rounds!" A voice called. "Non-propellants!"

The Captain nodded and raised his crest, closing his eyes. That would finish them. The shields were gone, and the heavy turbolasers were punching through the hull all along the vessel's length. His talons cut into the arm rests of the captain's chair.

The rounds shook the vessel like a Nexu with prey in its mouth. The metal buckled, screeched, and sheared from the impact. The dying frigate rolled hard and fell off its trajectory. The planet grew in size as gravity seized the vessel.

They were going down. The bridge crew was now cut to pieces by shrapnel and torched by the flames that billowed from the wiring and ventilation.

The warmth of the flame was comforting to the Captain's cold-blooded body. Gravity was out, and he felt himself held only by the chair's straps. The planet grew broader and broader.

But they would never reach it. He could see the atmosphere glowing ahead of him and braced for impact.

The frigate, unprotected by shieldings and accelerating rapidly, slammed into the atmosphere. The impact shattered what remained of the ship's frame and the Captain closed his eyes as the bridge depressurized. The temperature dropped, the flames snuffed out by the loss of oxygen.

A cold smile stretched across his pointed lips as a new vision appeared, a great figure towering over the horizon, clawed talons out stretched in greeting.

The old frigate disintegrated in a ball of flame and debris.
