Death of a Master...

Corvus was gently awoken by someone touching her face. And then she was promptly slapped.

It had to be Kana. It was tough love or something like that apparently.

Then she felt the warmth of the Force as it flowed through her and she felt the pain in her eye recede. Although she could open her eyes now, she preferred to keep them shut. She didn't want to look at the grave-stones and be remindd of the recent past. "Kana...is that you?" Her voice was shaky. Even though her emotions were under lock and key, she couldn't suppress the overwhelming sadness that was built up behind the durasteeel wall. She lifted a hand and put it on her friend's forearm. "Don't worry, I know it's you. It was the slapping - always a giveaway." The banter was just like the old days - but the voice wasn't joining in the joke.

It was as if every last ounce of happiness had been drained from her body. Which of course it had.

Corvus woke up and spoke up, yet there was only one thing on Kana’s mind. “Shut up.”

It was all she could afford. Why was it that every time Kana left Corvus unattended she always ended up half-dead on the ground in a place far too difficult to reach in a hurry? With the wound still not completely healed there was little Kana could do but place her friend in her lap as she continued to gently nudge at the gash and continue the procedure.

Like any real friend she wanted to hush Corvus and tell her all would be fine, but situations such as this was alien to her. Was that the right move? It didn’t feel like it. She settled for cradling her friend as she nursed her back to life. Her other hand cleared away loose strands of hair from her friend’s face. Even those that kept their eyes closed deserved a small hint of dignity, especially if they fell asleep in a graveyard.

“So. Slowly, take it from the start. What happened?” Her voice was surprisingly calm considering the state they both were in. “Last I saw you were excited to get this over with.”

Corvus smiled weakly. "Yeah, excitement. Let me tell you, it's overrated." The smile was frozen on her face and it was joined by a slow but steady flow of tears. Not sobs, she seemed to exhausted for that - just a trickle of salty water that seemed it would never stop.

She waved her hand. "My family. All dead. I came here a few days ago but never made it to my parent's house. Seems a bounty hunter did. You know with these new One Sith bounties on our heads? He killed them all. My little brother tried to disarm him and the bounty hunter shot them all."

She let the silence hang for almost a minute before continuing, tentatively. "No, not all. I have a little sister. She was born after I left for the Academy. I have a little sister Kana. She's wonderful and she's pretty and I got to meet for for the first time today. I think she's as stubborn as me too." Her eyes opened briefly but stared away into space.

"Thanks for coming." She squeezed Kana's hand now. "You're my rock. You're my very best friend."

'You're the best friend
That I ever had
I've been with you such a long time
You're my sunshine
And I want you to know
That my feelings are true
I really love you
You're my best friend.'

A hand ran through the blood-soaked hair as calm radiated in the force. Stroke for stroke she let her friend relay the story. It was tragic to say the least but it hadn’t seemed to phase Corvus too bad. At least not on the surface and in the end that was what mattered the most. Perhaps it was a weird line of thought but did it really matter at this point?

Corvus was a strong jedi and a strong person even if she refused to acknowledge the latter. Perhaps it was her stubbornness or maybe her humility had been punched into overdrive. It didn’t matter, she was a stronger person than she herself seemed believe.

A smile spread from cheek to cheek as Kana felt a squeeze on her hand.

“Just a rock, huh?” Kana tried to lift her friend up from the ground with a grunt. “Hardly seems fair in comparison to what you are to me.”

She grabbed her friend’s belongings and swung the robe over her shoulder. “You aren’t just the one rock or person, Corvus. You are everything. You are a light when things get rough. You are a steadfast pointer of directions and I couldn’t see myself being where I am today if not for you.”

A hand reached out to push the gate to the cemetery open. The state of her friend’s ribs had come to her attention and she contemplated whether to go for a clinic or fly her home. Considering the state of things and how Corellia had been so far, it felt the safest to go home. The cab arrived and quickly began carrying them for the spaceport.

“You are everything to me and I will never leave your side for as long as I live, and that is a promise.”

Corvus smiled but it was a false effort. "You're more than a rock, OK? But there's something I haven't told you...about my sister." It was clear this was tearing her apart. "She's...she's...she's fallen. She tried to kill me. I love her Kana, she's my flesh and blood but she hate's me - and I suspect running off to the Sith as we speak."

She looked Kana in the eyes, her own blood-shot from the injury and the crying. "In what galaxy is that fair?"

"But I have you - and perhaps I haven't always told you what your friendship meant. At least not as often as I should. Sorry. More than a rock. Best friend ever in the galaxy. The sister I never had. I mean...I meant...I..."

Words escaped her. So for the first time in the history of Corvus she simply shut up. No story, no quote, no allegory. Just silence.

To have a sister that would turn. Deep down Kana could never understand what it felt like. The closest thing being if it happened to Corvus but realistically speaking it would sooner be Kana than her and even then it was never going to happen. Then again, things could change. No, Kana would never go away. The Sith had taken too much and too many already. Being a statistic was not in Kana’s plans.

As much as Corvus might have planned for Kana to break the silence she wouldn’t. A gentle pull had her friend leaning on her shoulder. A hand reached around her back and began stroking away at [member="Corvus Raaf"]’s arm.

Right now it was all about making her feel better. “I know what you meant, don’t you worry about it…”

Darth Timoris

To err is human, to forgive divine. And I'm no god
Melori sat in the pilot's seat. She'd been here for the best part of a couple of weeks now. It was one thing to go to Prakith, another to actually land and make that final commitment. So she'd eaten all the food the ship had to offer and tried on and then shredded her sister's robes. The whiskey ran out days ago.

As she sat in stationary orbit, hidden behind a small asteroid field, she wondered what she should do. Going back was no option but this time alone had mellowed her slightly. Not to the point of not still wishing to kill her sister, but the Sith? That was a leap from where she was sitting.

She was broken from her thoughts by a lot of flashing lights. Checking the instrument panel, as best she could, she saw a large number of ships exit hyperspace. The datapad on the console blinked into life. It must be wired to some secure channel being a Jedi ship because a message came through that the Invasion fleet had arrived.

Invasion fleet? Here? Now? She punched in some codes and headed for the planet's surface. Out here she was a sitting duck. All she could hope is that the Sith hadn't seen their unexpected visitors yet and she'd get to land safely. Hope was a valueless commodity right now as she found out all too soon. She got as far as the atmosphere before a couple of Sith fighters spotted her and without any resistance, shot her down.

She was close to the building when she crashed, maybe a couple of kilometres away? And she was in a Jedi ship. And...well at least she was alive, or death was very cold and you could feel blood trickle down your forehead. And you could feel broken limbs.

And then she blacked out...

THE END OF THE BEGINNING
