Mission Deep Rooted | Pt. II

You're taking this at lightspeed, Kyr. Calm down.

Kyric charged through the darkness down the singular thoroughfare that stretched the length of his subsector. The gridded stylings of the Upper City were established down in the depths of the Under City long before those towering star scrapers first reached heavenward. It made traversal easy, but the choice of who to save hung heavy on his shoulders. This was the nightmare scenario no do-gooder ever wanted to face.

Kyric!

Shut up! I need a second to think.
He scanned the shops to each side of him again as if a hidden passage he hadn't spotted would jump out at him. A piercing stab behind his right eye stopped him in his tracks and the kiffar dropped to one knee. He clutched at the side of his head, both eyes squeezed shut in sudden pain.

Stop thinking! You have to feel through this!

The stinging subsided after several long seconds, alerting Kyric to the fact his vision had... seemingly doubled. What appeared to be a layer of orange-threaded light settled over the darkened corridors all around him. Tiny wisps of that same thread disappeared deeper into the darkness. When he approached one and gently ran his fingers along the ethereal power, he felt fear. Tansu's fear. Intermingled with it was Talin's resolve, and Talsin's bravery. Dax's shock at the scream turned to horror only magnified by the arrival of the Dark Jedi.

Of the two, the entity who loomed over Talin and Dax emanated a much more vile essence. As if their presence within the Under City corroded the very foundation around them. The other creature reminded Kyric of a raging beast. Its desire to hunt was enhanced by the seething hunger within the monolithic monstrosity.

Tansu is hurtin' bad, but I don't think Talin's bluster is gonna see them through this. Kyric turned toward the now radio-silent pair and clicked the commlink nestled in his ear. <I'm heading toward Talin and Dax! I've activated my locator beacon, it's transmittin' my position! We need to link up now!>

Dax was nearly relieved of his skin when the communicator exploded between his fingers. Desperate for a lifeline, the now empty hand snapped to join its twin around the blaster. Shrapnel and impetus had summoned a throbbing pain in the flesh. Beneath the tight grasp around the weapon's receiver, the pain quickly became an afterthought, shoved into the sane bottomless mental compartment as always.
"Your friends are safe as long as you comply."

A distant, back-of-the-mind feeling prognosticated great danger. Much like he always did, Dax ignored it, presenting a glower behind the sights of his blaster. "I'm the one with the gun, maybe you should comply."

"But only one of you two will leave here alive."

"How 'bout you let them go and crawl back to whatever hole you came from, before this gets messy?"

"Screw this, I've heard enough." Dax's sights lowered and pointed to the Mirialan's center mass. His index finger began convulsing, slinging a volley of shots from the barrel with full intent to turn his assailant into swiss bantha cheese.

<It's ugly in 1B — surprise monster in the corridor!>
"F-feth." He whispered as he got back to his feet and felt a twang of pain through his back. Hopefully he hadn't broken anything. "That the best you can do, lizard boy?!" Talsin screamed heroically at the creature. The fact his voice had an edge of panic to it would not be lost to the Dark Jedi. He ignited his lightsaber and slashed with his hand, using the Force to try and trip up the huge bulking monster.

" Monster?!" Brutalis gaped at them both before feeling a sensation on his body. A outside force pushing against him. Maybe it was his positioning or the lack thereof in the situation, but the colossal Savrip fumbled with the attempt of a step. A series of motions that caused Brutalis to sag and crash against a duracrete wall with a thud. The orbalisk shells impacting against the material with a slight tapping sounds before the Dark Jedi began to chuckle to himself and smile at the two morsels in front of him. Drool poured from his mouth and his heavy breathing continued. Two Amber eyes fell on the blade of a lightsaber with some interest.

" The best I can do?! I bet you two maggots would love to see that. Shall I start this or shall you!? Go ahead take the first shot!" Brutalis screamed and shoved off the wall to level his large form to a kneeling position. Extending his arms out and torso completely exposed he began gesturing to his orbalisk protected body to a sadistic pleasure. His entire form was completely covered by the parasitic creatures, except for his hands, feet, head and the gaps between his joints. The only other area that was not effected was a massive thick pelt that functioned as a pelt across the Savrips waist. Within the pelts pocket a rather large Lightclub could be seen. " You could go for my eye, throat, chest, wrist, legs! It can be anything you want as long as you strike me first. You could end me here and now if you have the balls for it. Jedi poodoo!" The Dark Jedi exclaimed and watched Talsin Lota Talsin Lota and Tansu Treicolt Tansu Treicolt intently. The Savrips bloodlust began to saturate the very alley way with the intent hidden in his being. Murder, destruction and most of all hunger. Capitializing on his innate feelings, Brutalis reached out and expanded it in an attempt to "infect" the two young jedi with the same bloodlust that he felt. Consume Essence. He would tempt them both into embracing the moment.

" What are you waiting for?!!! Do not keep me waiting boy!" he snapped.

A sinister grin shaped the seer's lips. The girl had tapped into a sacred memory within and the cold tendrils of fear began to melt by the intense heat of a rising volcano; unbridled rage coursing through her veins, carving fissures across her face.

Sinestra, reveling in the dark side energies slowly manifesting in and around the girl, almost missed the boy's sudden valiant deed. She seethed at the first bolt grazing her ribs, her body barely responding in time to the danger to avoid the lethal aim. With a snap-hiss, the seer's red blade materialized in the darkness and danced to the tune of the bolts, fending off the crimson shots safely to the side.

Snarling, more so at her foolish lapse of focus rather than the blistering pain at her side, Sinestra snapped her hand forward to unleash a powerful concussive wave at the boy. The tide flung like shrapnel everything in its wake: bits and pieces of chipped duracrete, discarded speeder parts and loose sewer gratings.

The boy had proven a fool and Sinestra's attention had turned to the girl, taunting her further into the tempting vortex of the dark side: "Try not to dismember yourself with the first swing." gloved digits mockingly urged the girl to attack.

Brutalis seemed to be actually insulted by being called a monster.

Which kinda made Talsin forget for a moment this was supposed to be terrifying.

"No offense, buddy, but you did loom up from the shadows in blood and drool and you look like..." And he absently gestured up and down to the massive behemoth. All sharp talons, scales and teeth. "...a lot." Belying the casual words Talsin was still guarded as he gazed at him and trying to keep an eye out for Tansu and her next move.

Strike first?

That surprised Talsin as he glanced at the open gaps that Brutalis seemed to indicate himself. It was... the prudent course of action, wasn't it? Keep Tansu safe, keep himself safe. Keep everyone around them safe by taking out this hulking creature.

He grimaced.

"I don't think so. A Jedi never strikes first. Put your arms up and subject yourself to justice, sir." Opting to not refer to him as a monster again. "Your trial will be fair and take into account your willingness to surrender, I promise I will make note of it." Sure, technically Brutalis had struck first at them by that Force Bellow.

But you could make the argument that screaming at someone was not a direct attack.

Even still Talsin was tense, his lightsaber at a ready, while waiting for the Dark Jedi's next m- his eye twitched. His gaze darkened and the saber rose up a bit fiercer. "Then again... you have killed before... I am sure you will kill again." Talsin's mouth twisted in a growl. Every part of his body was beginning to scream at him to leap towards the lizard.

To cut off the head of the snake and save a lineage of victims in the future.

Cords appeared in his neck as he tried to keep himself in check. He took a step towards Brutalis... as if walking through quick-sand.

Murder in his eyes.

Gobsmacked, she tugged on the back of Talsin's shirt, urging him to step back and cut the hero act. Her voiceless plea had little effect. Goshdarnit.

When the gator started with an otherworldly bellow, hearing it speak and taunt was not on Tansu's bingo card. She froze like a spooked rabbit. Maybe the backwater upbringing made her a little xenophobic..

At first, the concept of the giant being articulate overwhelmed her entirely. She barely registered what Brutalis said, only that he spoke. By the time she tuned back in, he had pointed out strike zones, luring her and Talsin in close.

" What are you waiting for?!!! Do not keep me waiting boy!"

"Have Balls? And just BOY?" Taking offence replaced a few ounces of fear and shook Tansu from her paralysis. "Ya might not be a monster, but ya sure are sexist."

Sexist and unfathomably brutal-looking. Every inch of the creature loomed in the shadows and looked stronger, rawer, more potent than the teenagers. Ma and Pa's stories of the Bryn'adûl were the only Parallel she could draw from. How had they fought those? Her mind scrambled to recall accounts of heroism shared across the dinner table or while workin' on humidifiers.

Searching back into her memories, Tansu barely recognized that they were becoming warped and adulterated. They were misrepresented within her own consciousness and mutated into something fouler. There was only a blistering need to defeat and desperate violence. She'd never felt such a visceral command before, and she felt herself leaning into it without precedence to fall back on for how to respond. It felt heavy, dark, and impossible to resist. Fury bubbled on a low simmer.

Plus, this giant gator clearly thought that the little girl in the cowboy hat wasn't worth taunting, so she needed to prove him wrong! Show him what Treicolts were made of.

She reached for her sabre, keeping a trained eye on the Sith. Talin and she had left Concord Dawn just for this. To put down Sith and keep the galaxy safe. Denying herself the chance to put her sword to the test here would make their abandonment of parents moot.

Talsin still spoke beside her, declaring peace and justice, and she silently condemned him. Disagreement blooming thickly.

While most of her argued with this approach, a tiny part knew something was wrong. Wrong like it had been in that bar on Coruscant, with that Zeltron. She'd lost agency of her prerogative.

How had she reattained it?

"Then again... you have killed before... I am sure you will kill again."

The Parallel of this and the bar in the underworld struck her like a stab, cutting through the oppressive feeling to destroy, maim, kill. In a few more seconds, she'd be gone completely. Already, she was getting woozy. And not the good kind.

She yelled out, both hands lancing forward. A wave of telekinetic Force tore through the duracrete, blasting it upward from Brutalis' feet to his eyes. Tansu scrambled back, nearly falling in her haste, and grabbed at Talsin's shirt again. They needed distance. They needed to get away from the affects of the master's prowess.

There would be no other way to come out of this unscathed.

"We gotta skedaddle!"
