DefSys (wip)

Corporation Name: DefSys Industries
Headquarters: Bothawui
Locations: Bothawui, Kamino
Operations: DefSys is a software development company that specialises in the defence sector.
Rationale: A company to provide security development for the CIS. No members of the CIS directly control the organisation. Bringing a private company into the government would be both against the ideals of the CIS and expensive. Instead Raziel has been tasks with ensuring several employees are influenced by SpyNet to guard against foreign intelligence subversion and potentially to steal data for other factions.
Tier: 2 (824 employees. ~400 developers, ~80 engineers, ~100 sales, ~200 management, ~30 HR, ~10 internal computing)
Description: DefSys industries is a rapidly expanding software development company thatb works in the public sector, but in particular defence. An offshoot of a scientific computing firm, it was found that defence contracts offered considerably higher margins for the highly skilled staff. DefSys industries started with an offshoot of just 50 developers and took four months to successfully compete for an ITT.

Whilst small, the company has developed a reputation for quick turnaround times, high efficiency and original thinking. Their first project was on a simple back end infrastructure for deployable tactical systems for anti-pirate patrols.

DefSys developed a highly efficient system that interfaced successfully with a number of systems. It led to increased efficiencies and the {system} were able to decommission ¼ of their fleet thanks to the increased capabilities enabled by the system.

DefSys began to branch out into security devices and software. Offering firewalls and intrusion detection systems that offered the same feature set as much larger corporations, but for a fraction of the price. The product engineering department is now 100 strong. Sales have been low in the public sector within organisations opposed to the CIS as they fear threats from CIS SpyNet built into the software. Their reputation is growing rapidly in the private sector across the galaxy for cost effective security solutions. Their firewall solutions recently made the "Top 10 Low Cost Devices" section of a popular Coruscant tech Holonet site, which has significantly boosted demand. The mass production of devices is done by various sub-contracting firms.

DefSys have recently started taking on maintenance contracts for systems. They tend to hire sub-contractors for this work, but use it as an opening to try and sell on their talented developers to provide upgrades and design new bespoke systems.

More recently the company has branched out into droid algorithms, hiring a whole research team from a distinguished University.

The company has the backing of a number of influential shareholders who are keen to invest given the gains already made. Currently the firm is struggling to recruit staff of the calibre required, and is sometimes short on resources to pick up new work. To address this the firm has started investing in software design projects at a number of elite Universities, attempting to attract the talent away from well-known firms.
