"Uhm...yea, quite a bit to process, but yea I kinda get the drift..." She nodded, a bit more relaxed seeing that the majority of the Tythe forces had lowered their weapons.
It were always a bit rough around the edges when conversing with a Viceroy of another system, especially since each system were for the most part able to retain their self right to governing and policies. That is, as long as they didn't conflict with that of the whole.
Karlie were no Viceroy, just a daughter of one which really meant nothing more here than her being an executive officer of one of Castagne's executive branches. This meant she held no authority outside of Castagne unless it were given to her by her own Viceroy. The latter, had been given. But it was just permission/authorization for Karlie to use Tatooine as a testing ground for her battle droids. The very same she had acquired from Darth Tacitus by proxy. The 1,000 units were her take on invite from the dark lord to go on a treasure hunt. Karlie had come away with 1,000 battle droid units, and she had brought 100 units to tatooine to test them out.
Needless to say, she had rarely interacted with a Viceroy, if she even realized that she had been in the presence of a few, unknowingly. Still, she had met the Vicelord...once. Her one time experience with the Vicelord of Viceroys Metus himself in the Melida/Dann campaign, which had left her with a kind of uneasy feeling, as to the humanitarian aspect of what the CIS were meant to stand for.
That uneasy experience with the Vicelord followed right after the CIS had turned a blind eye to one of it's neighboring faction which included the system of Alderaan, when it had come under attack by TSE.
In Karlie's point of view, the CIS failed in providing much needed support to that faction in their most dire moment. By the time Karlie had gotten permission from her own father, Viceroy Tarssin Destat to help, the sith had retreated and all that was left was the clean-up following the aftermath. All she were able to do was round up some sith stragglers and appologize on behalf of castagne and the CIS for not engaging the sith sooner.
The only other CIS Viceroy to show up after the fact like she did, was Derek Dib...who himself seemed quite dissented in the CIS lack of military support for their neighbors also.
These small connected, not connected incidents played heavily on her mind and conscious. Was there a pattern of betrayal that connected everything back to TSE? Her mind pondered this for quite sometime.
So despite Karlie not in full disclosed agreement, nevertheless conceded to Chikako. After all, the young girl was a Viceroy and could as easily dismiss her, if not altogether incarcerate her for trying to interfere.
"My apologizes if I came off a bit too forward. I weren't aware that your person were a Viceroy when I spotted your vessel. I was just able to conclude it were an armed vessel from Tythe.
But yes, I do understand that your presence here does grant you full authority in dealing with enemies of the state... enemies of the CIS, rather."
Well, that still didn't quite answer the question still up on the table as to why and how were she here in the flats all by herself.
"As for me being here... I've gotten authorization by Viceroy Tarssin Destat of Castagne system, to field test a few droids I acquired." She no doubt left out the
'battle' aspect of the units out of her explanation... and the fact that besides having 10 units just out of sight, that there were another 90 dormant units back at her base camp.
Karlie knew little of Chikako really... and in her limited experience with Viceroys of other systems thus far, one could say Karlie was not too trustingly open with them. Allies, yes. But as of late, karlie was finding herself struggling more often than not with what she determined to be her conscious. Something she sort of lacked when she had been shrouded in darkness cast.
Her home world Castagne had joined the CIS not too long ago, as the faction seemed on the whole, one which shared the same values as that of her home world. Only as Karlie came to experience, it were not entirely true of all the CIS systems...at least it were what she personally felt. Then again, she was no politician... but an analyst and scientist. It were her nature to question things... question workings...even policies, which for the most part got her into quite a few debates sometimes.
"I was going through some trials just 13 or so kilometers South of here like I said, when I came across one of the settlements that had been hit. Seemed either everyone there got fried or some survivors managed to escaped into the open desert...I don't know.
Then the smoke we picked up coming from this direction...
Sigh...
Well, came to discover this settlement got it too." She gestured to the still smoldering tents and carcasses in the background." She stopped a moment, realizing how she must of sounded describing the Tusken's village still smoldering.
"Er...sorry for your loss by the way. Didn't mean to sound indifferent... its just how I report findings..." She had turned a moment to apologize to A'Runda before continuing with her explanation.
"Anyway...
That's when I spotted and recognized the CIS markings on your vessel. I wasn't sure as to your doings here and... And I guess curiosity got me standing here...."
Appearances were deceiving most times, if not all the time. Chikako could well be a just and fair Viceroy... one trustworthy enough for Karlie to befriend. But Viceroys in her experience rarely befriended executives like her.
"...in the presence of Tythe's Viceroy." No, Castagne had not been involved in the liberation of Tatooine. Then neither had a lot of other CIS systems. Not every system entered every campaign. To do so would certainly leave open many back doors for their enemies to exploit.
But it didn't mean that a system which had not participated in the campaign could not explore as to what a said liberated system had to offer.
For Karlie, Tatooine's uninhabited open expanses served quite well in testing out newly acquired battle droids. Only that she had not expected to come across a situation such as this.
"Which...
If you don't mind me asking..." No, she couldn't help herself sometimes.
"If you're here looking after Tatooine's interest...who's minding Tythe?"
