Welcome for what?? By that time we were already fucked by the Ottomans, we've gone under slavery for almost 500 years because the retarded crusade absolutely annihiliated our strength for years to come. Yes, it does negate everything else when the Crusades have basically done little more than pillage, burn and rape. But yeah let's blame the Muslims for everything. Ridicolous.

You're talking like you're from the Balkans or something, so... the crusaders weren't the ones who conquered and enslaved you, that was the Ottomans, so call a spade a spade. Blaming everything on the crusaders is stupid. Thanks to the Holy Roman Empire and Poland, the Ottomans were stopped at Vienna and Europe was saved from Muslim rule. So you can thank a Pole or a German for that.

Once again, you're welcome.

So much for not turning into a civil 'discussion' about the Crusades, but since we're here already...

Oh but the crusaders did a bad thing this one time so yeah I guess that totally negates the reason for the crusades altogether.
Internal medieval power struggles mixed with changing economic trends resulting in the widespread rise of unlanded nobility, plus the Byzantines external conflicts and increasing trend towards aristocracy, all with religion to spice it up?

Jan Sobieski was a karking g, though. Pity he didn't capitalize on his power and centralize the Commonwealth more. Might've prevented it from falling under Prussian/Russian/Austrian rule. Oh well, it's all supposition at this point anyway.

Why are we talking about something that happened 1000 years ago like it can be explained in a modern context anyway? The idea that the Crusades and the modern issues with extremism are considered equatable strikes me as rather amusing.

Not like the Muslims had occupied the Holy Land for roughly 400 years at that point in time and had allowed members of other faiths to travel to Jerusalem practically unhindered.
But that's wrong, infidel.

Christian churches and holy relic sites around Jerusalem were burned while Christians were oppressed

Pilgrimages to the Holy Land were frequently attacked by Muslims

And Islam had already proven itself an aggressive force intent on taking over Europe.

Conclusion: Deus Vult, remove kebab.

When you thought your crusader meme thread would get 1 reply but now it's got 30+ and people are arguing

Maybe I should make a meme thread about the mongol invasions or something. When someone brings up the facts its one of the deadliest conflicts in history and spread the bubonic plague you can just reply with:

Oh man, isn't making light of massive loss of life etc. just so fun? /s Just here to meme it up though, so don't drag me into any arguments please. Back to the topic:
