OK...gratuitous GIF over with!
“We see the world not as it is…but as we are.”
– Anaïs Nin
So…I’ve kept out of these chats since I stepped down as FL for a variety of reasons. In part because I promised the new FA team I would. There’s nothing worse than someone telling you how they would have done it if they were in charge. But don’t worry, I’m not here to tell anyone what to do, or what I would do.
Just sharing my opinions. Not facts…opinions. You see we tend to see things from our perspective but forget that others see things differently. Neither is right or wrong. We’re just seeing things from our own viewpoint.
So…all that said, this is what I think.
This is about the GR right? Not about the One Sith or the Mandos or the GA. It’s about understanding who we are and want to be, not who they are, our similarities, differences etc. If I wanted to join the Mandos with a character – I would. But I don’t want to RP one. So I don’t.
Similarly, if I wanted to create a character for the GA…well you get the idea.
And I for one
like to hear what writers from other Factions think of the Republic. To be honest, I’d prefer for them to wait to be asked, but that’s democracy for you. The Faction was made 'By Approval' only last November because GM Members asked us to. They were fed up with people joining the Faction just to tell us how wrong we were. Or to ‘Like’ all the negative comments in a passive aggressive manner. And back in February we asked them all again. And once more the Members voted to have the Faction remain that way. Not saying making it open was a good or a bad thing by the way. Just stating a few facts (for a change).
So…my thoughts:
1. We are the leadership
I don’t know why people keep looking around for leaders to tell them what to do. When the FA team make decisions people complain they want to be treated like adults. It’s OUR Faction. We can pretty much do what we want. That’s what being a Major Faction means after all.
2. Corvus is a GR character
I am not a GR character. I’m a writer. Maja and Melori were (until recently) OS and COTBR characters. I am not pro or anti any Faction. I am a writer. My
characters are Faction oriented. But sometimes on these threads IC and OOC blurs. And we need to be mindful of that.
3. Always in motion the future is
The future of the GR and TJO is – and always should be – in flux. Major, minor, together, apart. Where there’s a will there’s a way. Corvus is a Jedi of the Order and will serve the Republic for as long as it is good. That could be as part of the same Faction, different Factions, one Major and one Minor. I’ll
never drive the change – but I’m ready to jump on the bus if that’s the direction people feel we need to travel in.
4. I do like to be the righteous goodie goodie all the time
That’s what being a Jedi of the Order is all about. We aren’t Jedi with an attitude. Or Jedi with an edge. We’re the Order from the movies (primarily). The Republic can have its moment’s I grant you, but if it veers too far, the Jedi would either choose to step in (as they did with Palpatine) or stop serving.
5. Other Factions
Same subject, different aspect.
We make relations with other Factions good or bad.
Not the FAs. People always talk about poor relations with the OS. Someone was even rude enough to suggest we needed to improve that aspect a while back. I never had any issues with the OS FA team.
6. Lack of activity
This is down to nobody but us. If we want to write for the GR we will. If that means we have so few that we don’t warrant a Major Faction? So be it. It’s a democracy. If the GA or the RA present a better story for your character then you do what’s right for you. The GR has historically had lots of members – but few are primary characters. Most are people’s second or third or fourth or tenth. Look how many Senators we have. And then look how active they are. There was a complaint they weren’t given enough to do. Ironic?
Anyway...I've written enough for now. Opinions, thoughts - and by definition not wrong. But not necessarily the same as your opinions.
