I'm not saying I've given up on the GR. On the contrary, I am just trying to rekindle my fire for it. I'll get there, but we all just went through some pretty rough encounters.

We just have to start connecting more with each other and working together.

I'd like to see the leadership we elected take the reigns or step aside for someone who will. This isn't trying to be negative, just trying to hold our leaders accountable. Real life happens, but this faction still needs someone at its stead, whether that be Taeli or someone else.

I believe this is the first and foremost step towards getting us back on track.

...look at what we've already got to generate rp. Then once we're happy with what's happening and our activity levels go up, go back to having dominions and the likes...

the admins actually tried to get some fortification threads going a while back. This one could need a push folks :)

OK...gratuitous GIF over with!

“We see the world not as it is…but as we are.”
– Anaïs Nin

So…I’ve kept out of these chats since I stepped down as FL for a variety of reasons. In part because I promised the new FA team I would. There’s nothing worse than someone telling you how they would have done it if they were in charge. But don’t worry, I’m not here to tell anyone what to do, or what I would do.

Just sharing my opinions. Not facts…opinions. You see we tend to see things from our perspective but forget that others see things differently. Neither is right or wrong. We’re just seeing things from our own viewpoint.

So…all that said, this is what I think.

This is about the GR right? Not about the One Sith or the Mandos or the GA. It’s about understanding who we are and want to be, not who they are, our similarities, differences etc. If I wanted to join the Mandos with a character – I would. But I don’t want to RP one. So I don’t.

Similarly, if I wanted to create a character for the GA…well you get the idea.

And I for one like to hear what writers from other Factions think of the Republic. To be honest, I’d prefer for them to wait to be asked, but that’s democracy for you. The Faction was made 'By Approval' only last November because GM Members asked us to. They were fed up with people joining the Faction just to tell us how wrong we were. Or to ‘Like’ all the negative comments in a passive aggressive manner. And back in February we asked them all again. And once more the Members voted to have the Faction remain that way. Not saying making it open was a good or a bad thing by the way. Just stating a few facts (for a change).

So…my thoughts:

1. We are the leadership
I don’t know why people keep looking around for leaders to tell them what to do. When the FA team make decisions people complain they want to be treated like adults. It’s OUR Faction. We can pretty much do what we want. That’s what being a Major Faction means after all.

2. Corvus is a GR character
I am not a GR character. I’m a writer. Maja and Melori were (until recently) OS and COTBR characters. I am not pro or anti any Faction. I am a writer. My characters are Faction oriented. But sometimes on these threads IC and OOC blurs. And we need to be mindful of that.

3. Always in motion the future is
The future of the GR and TJO is – and always should be – in flux. Major, minor, together, apart. Where there’s a will there’s a way. Corvus is a Jedi of the Order and will serve the Republic for as long as it is good. That could be as part of the same Faction, different Factions, one Major and one Minor. I’ll never drive the change – but I’m ready to jump on the bus if that’s the direction people feel we need to travel in.

4. I do like to be the righteous goodie goodie all the time
That’s what being a Jedi of the Order is all about. We aren’t Jedi with an attitude. Or Jedi with an edge. We’re the Order from the movies (primarily). The Republic can have its moment’s I grant you, but if it veers too far, the Jedi would either choose to step in (as they did with Palpatine) or stop serving.

5. Other Factions
Same subject, different aspect. We make relations with other Factions good or bad. Not the FAs. People always talk about poor relations with the OS. Someone was even rude enough to suggest we needed to improve that aspect a while back. I never had any issues with the OS FA team.

6. Lack of activity
This is down to nobody but us. If we want to write for the GR we will. If that means we have so few that we don’t warrant a Major Faction? So be it. It’s a democracy. If the GA or the RA present a better story for your character then you do what’s right for you. The GR has historically had lots of members – but few are primary characters. Most are people’s second or third or fourth or tenth. Look how many Senators we have. And then look how active they are. There was a complaint they weren’t given enough to do. Ironic?

Anyway...I've written enough for now. Opinions, thoughts - and by definition not wrong. But not necessarily the same as your opinions.

Look at this nerd trying to be all, "I'm cool and I know what I'm talking about. You guys should totes listen cuz I'm smartz and stuffz. Also, I have purple eyes."

:p

I am having a grand time Rping Mantic in the Republic and the Jedi order in it.
I dont see any issues with other factions and just like [member="Corvus Raaf"] states the only time things go really down the drain is when passive members tend to encourage negative threads.

But, that apart this faction is awesome. If it was reshaped or put in another direction out of OOC reasons my eyes would be looking very sad. And You dont want that!?!!??

Also - speaking of actually doing something...
We got a few but very adaptable faction threads that need love. Get in there and RP your character in the GR we all have chosen to be a part of our characters story.

Get your creative minds to the keyboards and go wild!

The Anti(Hipster)-Cynic
The Republic's main page has yet to be updated with current threads and happenings. I'm not sure how many people use that, but it is a good spot to find all the active threads that are ongoing and need posts/activity.

Along those lines, it might also be prudent to update the "Pending Mission/Mission Request" threads with some of the ideas we've been talking about here. Fortifying defenses, sending out political envoys, etc. I'm sure we can come up with some other colorful ones as well. I'll see if I can't write up a few later on today.

I agree that after finishing our active dominions, not starting new ones and instead placing our efforts elsewhere would be a good way to use our time. Finishing the dominions can give us momentum and the satisfaction that we've completed something going into new projects/threads/etc. I'm not the greatest at it, but perhaps a series of dev threads for factory and codex submissions. We've been talking about anti-Vong tech for awhile now. Is that underway? What other tech/not-tech-but-useful things would help us out?

Yes I agree. the bearded one has a point in that we should try and get stuff enforced and such. But the current doms should not be abandoned either. I am confident that they have not been finished due to one thing. The OOC ranting. So lets skip the OC ranting and finish the IC ones. ;)

As for Vong, We got an armor "jedi guardian" armor that is supposedly able to resist vongified weapons just as good as normal weapons. (Mind you I still dont really get what Vongified is). Its for jedi guardians and you can see the link in my sig.

I am also in a strange dev thread with [member="Enigma"]
He mentioned something about blowing the OS up... from there I am just tagging along. ;)

I don't think you're giving yourself enough credit. When you were FL, the GR leadership was highly responsive to the members and there was a good interaction within the faction. It created a positive feedback loop, for the most part, and things got done because people felt their needs were being met.

Our absent leader has created a vacuum whereby feedback and encouragement is severely lacking, and this has allowed negative feelings to surface and pervade. It's readily apparent that this faction needs a leader, if only one to nod and say "yep, that's a good idea, go for it."

My input on this would be that when you have a good idea, just go for it. Make it happen. The only thing to solve a lack of activity is more activity.
