Do the dead talk? [GR dominion for Altier]

Kay-Larr

Sphaera Tea Company Owner
Objective: B
13/20

Well, at least she wasn't alone. And the trooper was a far better shot than she was. Did he recognize her as one of the Senate delegation? Probably not. If he did then he would more than likely be sending her away from danger instead of letting her stay within it.

Kay continued firing her blaster at the grey cloaked figures, stunning those that she had been lucky enough to hit. "I don't understand why they are doing this...But we have to stop them if we are going to get Altier to join the Republic. Can you signal some of the other troopers to arrest the cultists that are still alive?"

She had no idea of Fergus' rank or what he was capable of. All that she knew was that they had to get to the bottom of this distraction. What was she missing? What was all of this a cover for? Whatever it was, Kay knew that she wasn't going to like it.

Objective F - leaning toward B

Mantic frowned as the two watched the refugee camp beneath them. He waited a moment on replying his padawan and instead closed his eyes. At first focusing inward to seconds later reach out with the force to try and follow the many threads that were laid out in the vastness of all those lives.

The threads intertwined and ran across streets, into huts and sheds, crossing friends and foes in a chaotic orchestra, but where was the maestro behind the disturbance.

There... a thread dripping in a gray tone... it left a trail and Mantic clinged onto it and rushed along it until it turned more sticky. Soon it turned blacker.

There... Pitch black darkness surrounded a thick thread that formed the center of the web in the camp. It's corrupted roots springing from a man of great darkness.

Mantic opened his eyes. He had sensed [member="Ekaro"] and was hoping to be able to pin point him from what he had sensed. Regardless what he was, Mantic suspected that [member="Ekaro"] either was untrained or perhaps in some sort of weakened state for the time being.

"There is a dark sider down there." he then spoke to his padawan. "I sensed him, he is cunning but I am not sure if he is powerful enough to detect me as well. We might have the element of surprise on our side." he pointed toward the camp and started to move swiftly to reach it.

Objective F
7/20

Rafeesh could feel the presence and he could almost feel his master searching for it, the light moving into the webs of darkness. They were looking for a spider hiding in the dark, yet unlike a spider this was much easier to find. Especially since his master was very strong in the Force. Rafeesh was glad that [member="Mantic Dorn"] was here, it would have been more difficult to find this darksider without his help.

The element of surprise sounded good, most definitely they would need to at least attempt to capitalize on that. Rafeesh followed his master, grabbing for his lightsaber. Yes the second fight with a darksider since he had returned to the Jedi. Was this the Force's plan? Was it intent on him fighting until such a time as he had defeated the darkness? Surely that was too great a task for one person, let alone one who had been a darksider at one time.

But the Force worked in mysterious ways, he did not know hat was planned, but he would obey the callings. For now, that was to fight, to fight the darkness before him and to learn from his master.

Objective C: Refugee Assistance
Post: 7/20

Ali listened to the man's response, gaining a better understanding of the situation at hand. She had no official control over Republic forces, but the Colonel seemed to be asking for advice. "Stun the ones you can, kill the ones you can't. Security of the population is top priority," She replied. "I've got a unit I'll be splitting between A and D checkpoints, they should arrive within five mikes. I'll handle the VIP's extraction, just give me a location."
While she awaited a response, Ali called up the gunship flight commander and put in an order for movement. "Three vehicles, on my location immediately." The vessels would arrive swiftly to carry Ali and her soldiers, along with Solomon's, to the three different locations that needed assistance.

Objective B: Primeval missionary work Act in the preservation of Halrormalenth's creation (life)
Location: Refugee Camp "Bilgewater"
Arms & Equipment: Black Warden Cloak, Amphistaff, Prayer Chain (Reverie crystal), Go! mobile comlink
Tags: [member="Lady Kay"] | [member="Ekaro"] | [member="Ali Hadrix"]

Death was not something that the Primeval believed in.

Instead, they believed in the reclamation. The soul was infinite, immortal. The work of Halrormalenth, the broken creation that was the temporary condition of mortality, was to forge a transient vessel that the soul occupied but for a brief period of time. The shadow of Balagoth transformed that being from the corruptible to the epistellar matter from which the stars had been born, returning them as lights in the night sky until they were reborn. Recycled in a sense. A cycle of life, death, and rebirth.

But life was sacred.

The vessel housed the soul of the Primeval. That was the true church of the faithful, the flawed bodies with all their imperfections. They wore masks of different color, different sizes, different air they breathed... yet the adoration of the mystery that was Sargon was what united them.

To harm that, to wantonly discard that which Halrormalenth had brought forth, or claim that Balagoth demanded sacrifices of blood or children... these were not Primeval ideas. And, so, as the explosion rocked the checkpoint near Bilgewater, the boy did what his missionary calling demanded.

He ran toward the trouble.

He could see bodies and pieces of bodies littered around where fires threatened to destroy everything that had been built for the weakest among them. The poor. The destitute. The vulnerable. Perhaps the Dark Side that [member="Mantic Dorn"] felt was that of the young Sith. The cold rolled from off his small frame, as the blue skinned child stretched out his hands. Biting winds, thick with the smell of blood and as cold as the arctic, radiated outward as the boy stretched out with his feelings and allowed his fear and rage to take form. Telekinetically lifting a pile of rubble, the boy altered and oriented the debris to form a wall to buttress the outbreak of violence from the refugees now caught in a widowing field outside their own homes.

Gray cloaks to the left of them, blaster fire to the right.

The Pantoran had forged a small barricade from which some might take shelter from the violence. The amphistaff at his side, the boy would do nothing save in defense of the innocent and the oppressed. Cursing the fact that his medpac was stowed aboard his ship, the boy knelt down as a family carried an injured boy toward the shelter that the youth had forged. Working in the dirt with rags and tatters, the Pantoran did what he could with the first aid he'd learned during his time at the Levantine Astronautical Academy.

It might not be much, it might not make a difference at all, but he had to try. Because he was Primeval, and that effort became part of his worship of Halrormalenth's broken creation. For it was flawed and temporary and corruptible.

But also beautiful and worth saving.

The web stirred, a second black spider clung to it and caused ripples throughout the web.
There was something familiair with the second presence. As Mantic had sensed [member="Boo Chiyo"] he recognized that it was more powerful, yet his instincts still told him that [member="Ekaro"] was the central figure to the sudden riots. Or was it a trick, a master and apprentice spinning their foul threads to lure them all into believing it was something else then met the eye?
Regardless, neither of them could be left to their own devices.
Mantic nodded at [member="rafeesh"]

"For now, let us keep close. I sense someone more powerful down there as well." he added and raised his hood.
They had been working alongside each other for some time now. No further words were required as the master started his approach toward the refugee camp in the direction where he last had sensed [member="Ekaro"]

Rafeesh nodded as he followed suit, pulling his hood up and walking down the path. He noticed that unlike most circumstances, he was keeping more track of where his hands were in proximity to his lightsaber. It was a most interesting thought, that given the situation he was more focused on the necessity of being prepared for combat. His senses were on full alert, more focused at trying to find where the spider was in this world. This was not an easy task, but he felt that the connection with the Force to be more solid than before. It was good to see progress and it showed that his efforts were not wasted. He wished that his old Master could see him now, the Jedi of the Old Republic. He probably would have liked [member="Mantic Dorn"], now that Rafeesh thought about it. They held many of the same values, but then again at the time of the Old Republic there was a much stricter control and the Jedi were more connected with the Republic. What a sad change.

As they approached the camp Rafeesh could feel the darkness thicken and he found himself looking forward to meeting this spider. He wanted to show the power of the Light to such a person that relied on the darkness, akin to a man relying on a crutch when his legs were fine.

"Its too quiet" said Captain Baris as he looked out into the darkness of space. "Are you sure this is where we are supposed to be" he said as he turned to face his commander. Beside him Admiral Holt stood looking out at the same black space. A small point of light larger than he rest of the visible stars marked the star at the Altier systems core. Beyond it, Ruugias smaller but still larger spot of light could be seen. The rest were pin prick's of faint light amidst a backdrop of dozens of visible pin prick's of light. Vernan stared at the darkness and spoke to his executive officer.

"This is the place, according to fleet intel this is where they will show up to change course." sail Holt. He had been hunting this group for some time now. It seemed hunting people was what he did now. At least that is what Forlon had been having him do since he took the office of Supreme Commander. HE had handed him a promotion to admiral and given him a small pursuit force and said here go forth and hunt. So far his hunt had proven less than successful. HE now sat in deep space waiting for a fleet that was supposed to be on its way to Altier to interrupt the Republic mission there. Intel had been more than sure they had this right. Holt had even asked them blatantly are you sure this is good intel. They had assured him it was.

"Admiral, sir, we have been here for seventeen hours now and nothing. Maybe the intel section was wrong about the time. It is hard to estimate when they will show." said Baris as he turned away from the view port and looked off towards the left as the shift change was going on. It had been four hours now and was time for the nest shift to arrive. Holt had instituted a four hour rotation schedule to keep everyone sharp and rested if the lead was correct. He did not want a fleet jumping in on a crew that was ten ours into a twelve hour shift. Holt turned to see what the Captain had been watching and then back to space.

"We will wait here Captian. If the republic personnel finish their mission on Altier and are secure we will depart. Until then we stand guard here at the gates just in case." Holt said as the captain turned back to look out the port into the distance and the nothingness that was there.

Location: Heart of Darkness
Objective: The End of Karleesi Ben'Freegan
Post: 5/20

He chased the Force trail to a filthy, abandoned building. He went up the stairs and came out of the stairwell. As soon as he opened the door and walked in, he could sense them. He slowed down to a casual walk. He was reluctant to get into a fight with the three people standing in front of one of the doors. However, judging by the attention they paid him by turning and walking quietly towards him, he knew it was coming. He kept his head lowered as he walked forward. It would make them instinctively sense subservience and he wanted to keep his ears in the prime position to hear for every possible sound.

They rushed him halfway to him. He kicked out with his foot. One caught it and tried to hold on. He pulled his leg closer and then lunged forward, releasing his leg. One swung, he parried the blow and twisted the arm. Another kicked him, so he caught it and brought his elbow down hard on the thigh and then shoved him to the ground. A foot caught him squarely in the chest and the other guy grabbed him into a bent over headlock. He started getting punched in the side once, twice...He kicked the guy away from himself, walked back to the wall, used the wall to flip around the guy's back so he could reverse the head lock and then flopped down to bend the man's spine back in an unexpected and unhealthy way.

A man tried to knock him over with a kick, but he parried it so the foot landed in next to his sitting form. He swung and punched the man's right knee to the side, causing him to falter and fall. He got up as the third man started swinging at him. He blocked, parried and countered until he beat the man enough to be able to suplex the scrawny man into his prone friend, who was trying to get up.

They were all taken care of. He went to the unlocked door and stepped inside. Inside was...well, anticlimactic. Ben'Freegan was there sitting in his chair at the dining room table...dead. Perhaps the man had tried to take back over a group that had already found a leader? Perhaps he'd made the wrong enemies. Maybe this was the best chance to keep Matthew from having to kill Karleesi, since there was no other way? Whatever it was, it didn't leave him happy with what he'd gone through.

As they found themselves at the edge of the camp MAntic stopped. There was panic among the populace and sheer wall of emotions and bodies moving about made it hard to orient oneself. Slowing down Mantic was unsure which dark presence to pursue. Then he

He turned to [member="Rafeesh"]

"There are two. Maybe we will have to split up regardless." he shook his head slowly. "We dont have much time..." he added. Something told him that the darkness soon would dissapear leaving them with little but vague rumors and traces to ponder on.

There were others here as well. He sensed the powerful [member="Rexus Drath"] as well as someone he had not seen but merely heard of through her former master [member="Elphaba nic Arose"] - perhaps they were in bound as well.

There was also [member="Ella Nova"] - a presence that gave Mantic much comfort. He had missed her since she had been freed from the sith prison, yet it was understandable that time was what she needed. Her being on Altier might be a sign that she was returning though and if that was so, no one would be happier then Mantic.

Weiss brought the neck down with his steel gloved fist into his knee. The cultists face then dissapeared with a solid thump into the armor. He never got up after that.

"Heads up 33rd!" the Colonel roared into his com as the perimeter was flooded with reports about attacks on their check points. "Lock and load we got incoming!"
"I want the patrols to narrow down to squads only, report frequency at every other minute." In the distance gun fire was heard and yet more squads reported contact with these strange cultists.

They dont fear death, was the conclussion and that made them a deadly adversary even against well trained troopers.

Weiss bit his lip. His position near the government pyramid was an important one but he knew that his men could do good elsewhere in the city as well. Those negotiations better be over soon...

"Eastern alley, requesting permission to fire." the sniper reported into his com. Weiss turned on the hub in his helmet to watch the feed from the snipers helmet. There were several people, in gray cloaks moving from shelter to shelter toward the open plaza. But the sniper had spotted them in time. Weiss hesitated for a moment. They were moving as if they wanted to stay hidden and they kept coming toward the square, an off limit area. Then, what if they were civilians desperately fleeing?

"Do you have any confirmation on their ID?" he quickly asked.

"Negative."

Weiss took a deep breath and watched one more second. Then one of the persons waved the other forward using his right hand. In it he held a vibro dagger.

"Weapon." the sniper reported.

Weiss nodded, they had both seen it.

"Permission to fire granted." he ordered and watched as one by one the cultists were gunned down by the lone sniper. The skill used reminded him of one of the best snipers around - [member="Sofia Annesley"]

Could it be?

"Alpha squad, report in! Alpha squad report." the communication officer turned and shook his head at Weiss. "Alpha squad should have reported at check point blue. But they have not and I cant reach them Sir. Their huds are gone too."

Cursing Weiss brought up a new cigar to his mouth and lit it.

"Do we have a last known location?"

"Check point Orange Sir. They reported having talked to some civilians about staying inside just before they left for Blue."

"Have Delta squad move in and secure check point blue. I want sniper cover for them."

"Yes Sir." the com officer replied and went to work forwarding the orders.

This was dirty business. It had been from start. The refugees were not a threat in themselves, on the contrary it was partly what they were here to protect. But any of them could suddenly pull a knife or worse on the soldiers or other civilians. It was a nightmare to handle for most patrols. Despite that, somehwere deep inside Weiss longed for the days when he himself had been out on the walks, in direct contact with the objectives. Now, his place was in a command position and he could not abandon his post regardles of how much he wanted.

Leaning over the shoulder of the com officer Weiss followed Delta squad make their advance toward check point Blue. They moved as one, covering each other as they darted between debris and other cover.

Everything was silent until they reached the destination. The point man gasped and cursed under his breath. Soon Weiss and the stab realized what they were seeing through the troopers hud.
Alpha squad, or rather what remained of them lay spread out in the narrow ally. Body parts clining to the walls, lamps and crates scattered about.

For a moment, everything went silent.

Then,

"Movement" a sniper reported.

The squad lowered themselves into kneeling positions as the squad leader raised his fist. Silently they started to scan the area around them.

"Prepare Bravo squad to reinforce." Weiss ordered between clenched teeth.

Holt has sat down while the next shift change had taken place. Captain Baris had turned in but was now returning to the bridge. Vernan thought it was time for him to get some rest, he had been up for nearly seventeen hours now. Baris walked up and sat next to Holt without a word and handed him a cup of caf. both men sipped from the cups and returned to staring out the viewport at nothing. It seemed Intel had gotten their facts wrong after all. Holt finished his cup and dropped it in the chute beside the command couches and stood.

"Captain you have the Con, I am turning in for a bit. Wake me at shift change if nothing shows up." said Holt as he walked away and to the lift. His walk to his quarters was short as they were located just below the ship's bridge. HE needed the rest and a refresher visit. Time ticked on in the drab darkness of space as the force played a waiting game.

"Confirm hostile contact."

The request was followed by a mere second, but a rather tense one.

"Confirmed," the niper whispered back. "Permission to fire."

"Affirmative, fire at will." the order was given without hesitation and soon a distant shot was heard, then another, and a third.

"Contact!" then was roared through the com system as the rest of the cultists rose to their feet and hurled themselves toward Delat squad. LAser fire flew all over the alley as wave after wave of the strange cultists poured out.

"Is Bravo ready?" Weiss asked.

"Yes Sir."

"Send them in."

The speeder swooshed past the square toward check point blue as Bravo squad rushed to their fellow soldiers aid.

Holt had just finished his refresher visit when the klaxons sounded and the coms came alive with the voice of Captain Baris.

"Admiral, Hostile contacts have just dropped out of hyperspace" said the ship's captain. Holt cursed and stood up reaching for his uniform jacket. He had just laid down and his body ached from the fatigue.

"Very well Captain have the gauntlet engage its gravity wells and move to engage the enemy formation. I will be there momentarily" Said Holt sliding his arm into his jacket as he walked out of his quarters towards the lift. He pressed the button and the short lift ride was over in less than a minute. The doors opened to a scene of controled chaos as the crew hustled around preparing for a fight. Captain Baris was standing at the forward tactical station working out the details coming in from the IFF sensors. IN the distance Holt could make out seven ships, one very large. He eyed it for a moment then gasp.

"Is that a Bulwark? where did they get the people to crew it?" Holt ask the universe as no one was close enough to hear his question.

Captain Baris turned and noticed Holt and sounded off. "Admiral on the Bridge" with a salute then returned to his previous position at the Tactical station. HE finished what he had been working on and walked to meet Holt as he sat in his command couch.

"Admiral fourteen contacts bearing one five seven" said Baris. Holt swung a look in his direction as the man sat next to him.

"Fourteen, I only see seven" said Holt. The Captain nodded and brought up a magnified display.

"There are seven smaller contacts sir" Said Baris. Holt looked closely then noticed the smaller craft tucked in between two frigates. The formation was larger than intel had estimated and no-one had told him the criminals would have a battleship. He was outclassed but the ship was ancient and Holt could not imagine it was fully operational. A ship that old was more of a flying scarp yard than a working combat vessel. Either way he had the reach on them and he was prepared to use his advantage as best he could before the enemy got into their own weapons range.

"Captain, have the forces long guns lock on that Bulwark and see if we cannot slow it down" said Vernan as he settled into his seat. A moment later and the Long Range weapons of the fleet came to bear on the forces in the distance.

The long range weapons struck out at the ships in the distance. Small pin pricks of light flashed and the ships in the distance blurred as their shields rippled. Holts suspicions were soon proven correct as the Bulwark-class battleships shields failed under the barrage and the long range weapons fire struck its hull. Two frigates moved up to cover the now unshielded ship but it was too little too late. An explosion flashed as oxygen was ignited by a penetrating turbolaser bolt set the atmosphere inside the ship on fire. Several more bolts hit the ancient armor of the ship puncturing it opening more and more of the ship to vacuum. BY the time the frigates had moved up and blocked the ship from the fire of Holts force it has begun listing as maneuvering pods had been damaged and explosive decompression had altered the ship's position. The remaining frigates and the single cruiser escort turned to escape finding it impossible as the Interdiction cruiser had prevented them from jumping to hyperspace. Wit the massive battleship now doing its best to survive its wounds. The escorts turned back to make a run at Holt's force. The distance they had to traverse to get into standard weapons range found one frigate and the cruiser damaged leaving the remaining frigates to fire on Holts force. Caught off guard and unsuspecting the criminal fleet was decimated in short order. The smaller transports had managed to run and move out of range of the Interdiction field and jump but the capital vessels were now disabled and venting atmosphere.

"Captain, send out rescue patrols. Let them know we are now, here to help them. We do not need them to needlessly die. Sering their lives in a prison is a better fate for this bunch I think." said Holt as he stood and gave Captain Baris the Con once again. He retired to his quarters for the much needed rest he had been robbed of less than an hour ago. The job of cleaning up and dealing with the left over criminals would fall on Baris and the rest of his very capable crew.

"Hold your ground! Give em hell!" Delta squad was surrounded but their massive fire range kept hte cultists at bay.

It did not last long though as the attackers reformed down the alley and started to push debris in front of them, slowly getting closer to the check point where the situation looked more and more desperate by the minut.

It was at the last minute as Beta squad rounded the last corner, their speeder crashing into the group of cultists at the back. They were trapped in the alley between Delta and Bravo squad.
The coming fire fight was a short one as the fate of the cultists was sealed.

This time the republic just might get some valuable intel on these so called cultists and what this Balagoth type was really about. In due time at least.

"Round up the prisoners and head back to base. Good work men." Weiss commended the squads and leaned back to enjoy his cigar.
