Do you feel like the Factory/Codex are necessary?

I love the Codex/Factory. It helps solidify certain original (and canon) lore on the board, encourages development and is a unique aspect of Chaos (it's one of the things that attracted me to it, personally).

The Factory is cancer. Get rid of it. SWRPlz.

Just kidding. It's become an important creative outlet for many people, so I think as of now it's become too much of an important facet of some members' experience to simply disappear overnight without a hitch. I think life would go on, but a lot of people would be a little upset, as for most it is more than just a means of getting official, shiny new toys and species.

Nah, he was already middle-aged back when I transferred him here.

Ancient.... middle aged.... middle aged.... ancient...

Yup still young compared lol.

I enjoy both, have always gotten help when needed.

The best thing about it, I've played on sites where 50 folks had Luke's lightsaber, 10 others had heart of the forge. The factory and codex provide regulation and prevent folks from hand waving Canon items from thin air and from creating and using "finger of god" weapons.

I like making up ships, especially given how poorly Star Wars canon covers proper fleet composition and ship roles.

Its also really neat when you see ships you made used by other people because they too thought it was cool.

If there were no factory, I would almost certainly still be using made up ships. I'd almost certainly try to have a SSD too. Templates and standardization provide a means to have everyone working on more or less the same page, and to keep standards reasonable (so you dont have SSDs everywhere.)

The Codex is the same way, and also a means to formalize creative efforts (like creating a mercenary army).

Overall the work the judges do is phenomenal and all considered the factory/codex add greatly to the appeal of the site and are part of the reason i keep coming back.

How true is that really, though.

If there was no role-play here, if there was only the Codex and the Factory, would you still stay?
I've been back for maybe a week and all of my posts have been Factory related. No one will ever accuse me of being a good representative of any population save the old before their time curmudgeons with borderline alcoholism and nicotine dependency demographic, but I'd wager I'm not the only one who gets more utility out of designing and building stuff than dealing with people. Gadgets are easy. People are hard.

What I meant is that it is an integral feature for me that put this place above the next site I was looking at trying. I used to make and program games (nothing impressive) that were solely for RPing, but trying to write that way either sacrificed the quality of writing for time, or vice versa. When people were online was the only time to write. I used up my creativity with game mechanics and stats. I wanted a change of pace and came here for two reasons: 1) a few friends joined the site, so I followed, though they are no longer here, and 2) there was no approval process to make a character. Then I discovered the factory and found out how it worked, that I didn't have to wing it with descriptions or rely on canon tech and try to regulate my "inventory" so to speak.

The factory became a creative outlet to supplement RP. I could also ensure the stuff I made up or used were generally acceptable by people on the board, and have an archive of sorts filled with submissions to look back at or reference. I'm a very structured person and the factory introduced that structure to me shortly after I joined. Otherwise I would have had no idea what kind of equipment I would use - I really would have been totally lost. If there was no factory and if I hadn't had joined the One Sith, I would have left the board after my first faction experience. No questions asked.

I have days like that, too. Like... Do I want pizza... Or do I want a burger...

Had someone make me a bacon and BBQ cheeseburger as a pizza. I don't recommend it.
