Chaca felt torn for sure - he felt like he needed to do something for the burning village. What could he do, though? He wasnt really a combatant, and would be able to do little to help in the situation other than trying to put out fires.

When Elise spoke, asking if the fire could simply be a pyre, the boy quickly shook his head

"Most pyres are at night around here, on certain days. This is too random ..."

As Karra spoke of needing to split up, the small cathar boy gave some careful thought before speaking. It seemed the three Jedi were ready to go investigate the village, and unlike Chaca they may actually be able to do something about what was unfolding.

Approaching Karra, keeping enough distance to keep her out of his "field", the small boy bowed slightly and nodded, glancing between she and Darius, both of whom he expected were staying to help the sick here.

The boy seemed perfectly willing to follow the commands of the Jedi, realizing that they would likely know what was best in such a sensitive medical situation

"I'm still here to help. I.. I dunno how much use I can be with the fire ... But maybe I could still be useful here setting up and doing stuff you need."

Ura nodded to Elise, quickly hoping on a speeder. It wasn't too much different than flying a fighter. She flipped a couple of switches, and the Lervons hands would almost seem to engulf the handles. She then looked as Amani hopped onto the Master's speeder. Ura could hear that her fellow Padawan couldn't drive a speeder, which was a bit odd, but ok. Not everyone knew how. Ura did nod to her, chuckling.

"You'll be fine, Amani." Ura could feel something though. Something seemed wrong. She wasn't sure what, but the sandy Padawan was wary.

Elise nodded to Chaca. "Thank you, I'm sure you'll do good work here. Master Darius Ino'Kane Darius Ino'Kane ." She dipped her chin in a goodbye. "I'll report back with news come nightfall."

She felt the concern emanate from the two padawans she worked with. "All will be well, young ones. Remember your training-- there is no emotion." As she sat in front of Amani, a well of warm serenity radiated out from her.

Only peace.

Elise kicked the speeder off, leading the head of the group. She felt the warnings too. Her gaze was keen as they moved quickly in, the drive long but direct as they traveled a roadless course through the dusty plain to the next city. Her speed slowed as the hazy structures grew larger and more defined. She skimmed the buildings along the edge of the village, looking for signs of what went in deeper within.

The sudden movement from the outskirts showed up as a red dot, rapidly approaching, in the heat-signature sensor of Siv's HUD systems. Using his optical enhancement features, he was able to enlarge the moving signature; three of the Jedi, he assumed, traveling towards the village where he and his companions had laid their trap. The hydra mines that Vallaro had prepared were particularly ingenious, Siv thought. If even one of the Jedi were incapacitated by those, it would ease the burden that the hunters collectively faced. As their targets raced towards them, Siv was reminded that these weren't failed smugglers or bail jumpers, but warriors honed in ancient and mystical art that presented a real and dangerous threat to Siv and his companions.

On the other hand, the Sith Empire had put a bounty of two-hundred-and-fifty thousand credits minimum on each, so Siv decided to take the calculated risk. He silently cursed himself for not bringing along a sniper rifle, something that would've been definitely helpful in this situation. He shrugged those thoughts out of his mind as he turned from his hiding place to slide down the roof, letting himself be launched into the air and falling the several feet before his boots impacted the soft ground below him. The inferno in the village still raged on, but he paid it little mind as he unholstered his blaster. Based on the quick geometric calculations that he'd done based on his observations, he'd predicted the point where the Jedi's path would end up, a position in the village that was not far from his own position.

He discreetly made his way over to the burnt-out remains of a hut near that point, a few glowing embers and charred walls the only remaining vestiges of the fire that had consumed it. He gingerly stepped on the burnt planks, aware of the snapping and cracking sounds that he made every time he put his weight on an untouched part of the tinder. Nimbly, his fingers slipped his blaster pistol out of its holster, switching it to the 'stun' setting without looking. He figured that merely stunning a Jedi would not enrage the others as much as outright killing them, and the Sith were paying the same for them, alive or dead. Now, all he and his companions had to do was wait for the Jedi to spring the trap.

While He lacked the sophisticated sensor suits of his companions Vallaro could tell by their movements that the Jedi were drawing close. He exhaled deeply, smoke erupted from his nostrils and merging with the plumes of smoke that surrounded him. The tabac coursing through his system had a calming effect. He was focused despite the excitement swelling up within him. He’d always wanted to hunt a Jedi, and this was his chance.

In his mind, he ran through some of the things that Lord Venari Lord Venari had taught him. The Sith Lord was a long-time employer of Vallaro’s and in their years together Vallaro had learned a thing or two about dealing with Jedi from him. The first lesson was Dun Möch, mental attacks to sow doubt and distraction. While Vallaro was unable to access the force and use the technique, he had his own ways of achieving the same result.

Pulling a pouch from his rig Vallaro unzipped it. Tossing the pouch into the air a small group of
Lookout Probe Droid’s flew from the pouch and activated in the air. The neurotic droids began chirping and beeping in military flash code while flying circles around Vallaro’s head.

“No, I don’t have another batch I can send out. You lot are it. Now listen good! There’s some speeders coming this way. When they get close, I need you all to intercept and blow up on ‘em.” He pointed in the direction the Jedi should be coming from. “Over that way, now get ‘em”

It was a preemptive strike. Using an EMP to disable a speeder in motion was just as good as any use of the force when it comes to causing doubt and distraction.

Vallaro made his way over towards the edge of the village and hid himself behind one of the burning buildings. The trap was set and the Jedi were on their way. Now all that was left was the wait. One way or another he’d know when they arrived.

Zivos didn't have to move from his spot to watch the jedi creep closer to the village. The binocular vision built into the helmet allowed him an easy view of the closing pair...trio he noted as he zoomed and squinted his eyes. There were three of the blasted jedi. Why in the - shaking his head, he un-holstered the blaster, setting it to stun rather than leaving it on the harsher setting. They had a trap to spring, and killing the jedi was going to caution them against falling into said trap. When they wound around the settlement, Zivos would keep them in his sight, moving carefully through the settlement and waiting for the shooting to let loose.

Elise slowed to a complete stop, gesturing for Ura to do the same.

"Something isn't right," she told them both. She could see burn patterns on some of the bordering buildings-- a small explanation for why this fire could rage so large. "It isn't a pyre..." She stepped down, gesturing they do not follow her as she judged the area. She stepped forward. The force rang with warnings, but it was hard to forge a path of right or wrong. There was only pain and...

"It's a trap."

A pressure plate clicked underfoot. A web of electronic nodes sprung out and stuck to her skin, dealing a low-end voltage meant to disable. An
Hydra Electronet Grenade, she realized in an instant. Her muscles spasmed, her legs giving out. 29... 28...

She knew the charge could only hold power for so long.

26...25...

She had no voice to guide the padawans. She tasted blood.

20...19...

She closed her eyes, breathing strength into her limbs.

17...16...

The Force surged, ripping the cords off her.

Somehow, despite everything, the trap worked. The mine sprung, and he watched as the Jedi began to writhe in agony as electricity coursed through her. This was the time to fire, as the first speeder collapsed to the electro mines Cassus took aim with his Ion Encumbrance rifle and began to fire at the younger-looking Mirialan ( Amani Serys Amani Serys ).

He couldn't tell the strength of a Jedi, obviously as he was insensitive to the force, but generally knew that the older they looked the more powerful they would likely be. Using the inverse of this logic, he figured targeting the younger of the trio that he could decipher, might reduce their numbers more quickly. The fewer Jedi there were, no matter their experience, the easier it would be to capture them.

Firing on them now would also prevent them from lending aid to... wait, did she just bust through that? Cassus dismissed the distracting thought and continued to lay down incredibly rapid bolts of ion tags from long range. Though they wouldn't do much damage at all on impact, each tag served as a guiding beacon for all the tags that would come after it. If she was tagged at least once, aiming at her would become much less of an issue for Cassus...

Zivos watched the trap spring from the burnt out hut, binocular vision pinpointing the trajectory of his shots as he aimed for the empty speeder bike and cranked up the setting on his blaster. If nothing else it would serve to alarm and disorient their targets as another hunter began firing as well.

Blaster shots snapped past the jedi in the trap, aimed directly at the speeder behind and harmlessly snapping at the plates at first before one connected with the first control handle. He narrowed his aim for the other side, taking several shots that if unimpeded, would snap the other control handle. Under the helmet, a smile formed as he took aim at another speeder.

I hate being right.

Amani tried to call out to Elise but it was already too late, choking on her own words as the situation sprang into chaos. She leapt off the speeder, an urge to run foward to try and help the master was stopped only when she saw the source of the attack, a mine. She dared not move any closer for fear of stepping on one herself. Even still, she had other problems.

Ion tags shot just towards her, Amani immediately swung outward in a wide arc, igniting her lightsaber in a defensive flourish. She tapped into the Force, blocking shot after shot. The sheer speed with which she was forced to defend herself made her pause a moment as the volley stopped, but she sighed in relief that she had kept herself from being hit.

Or not. Amani looked down to see a tag that found its mark on the bottom of her robes. So much for that. Her mind racing as things got worse, she quickly took off towards one of the bordering houses to try and get behind it for cover.

Karra watched the Jedi leave, offering a good luck wave before she turned back toward the village, exhaling softly as she started running logistics in her head. After about a minute, she looked at the two Jedi left behind, nodding toward them.
"Ok everyone, first things first, we need to go around the village, assess each patient's condition, and we'll treat them by severity as we go forward. We'll make a list, synthesize medication for the mild cases, and staunch the virus' progress in the more symptomatic of them, but we'll need to set up a perimeter and checkpoint so none of them leave a spread the virus, sound good?" She said, looking at the Cathar nearby.

"Chaca, right? Can you come with me while we unload Master Elise's supplies? We need to set everything up as soon as possible."

Ura slowed her speeder at Elise's gesture, looking out to the village. She didn't have much experience with fire, being from a desert world, but she would take what Elise said to mind. This wasn't normal. Then she stepped off her speeder, and a trap was sprung! Oh no! She quickly sprung off her speeder, forming a Force Barrier out of instinct. Her right hand almost seemed to absorb into her arm before a cyan blade extended from where her hand once was, and another Force Barrier wrapped the arm.

She looked around for Amani, but she'd already lost her fellow padawan. Dang it! She sorta wished she had a similar link that she had with Acaadi and Kyra. Would've made finding her easier. She wasn't use to fighting on the ground. When she trained back on Yurb it was as a pilot, not a soldier. She looked around, trying to spot any of the attackers. She looked to Master Elise, worry coming off her in the Force, as she ducked behind a tree. "Master? What do we do?"

Chaca watched as the group of Jedi took off toward the billow of smoke, silently wishing the best for them. The smoke was a little too suspicious - not likely from a random fire that got out of control. This was intentional, and he hoped that whomever caused the fire wouldn't be ready for a team of Jedi. Chaca presumed it to be a group of extremists, trying to contain the plague.... Little did he realise it was a far more dire situation than any of them had planned.

The boy's cutely-large round ears perked up as he was spoken to, his gaze turning to Karra as she addressed him politely, requesting his assistance. The young cathar smiled widely and nodded, moving to her side (though he was certain to keep enough distance between he and she not to disrupt any force use.

"Yes master...Kah-Rah?"

The boy asked, trying to remember if he had heard her name correctly when she introduced herself earlier. Though technically he was saying the right name, his inflections were a little off

His tail flicked from side to side in uncertainty for a moment as he bit his lip, hoping he hadnt pronounced her name wrong or mixed it up entirely. The boy seemed genuinely respectful and eager to help, glad to follow her authority as she planned what would be the next course of action.

"I'll help any way you need me to..."

The child seemed to stare at her, and at times it could be seen that his nose was twitching rather quickly, as though he were trying to make sense of the scents in the air - one particular strange scent having his attention.

It wasn't a bad scent, nor did it make him feel endangered. But, it wasn't a familiar scent, and it certainly didn't smell human. It was Karra... And though she looked so very human to his eyes... His other senses were telling him another story. He wasn't familiar with the Shi'ido as a species, so he simply found himself curious as to why her scent and appearance dont line up. While most beings with such accute sub-senses would be fooled by the added telepathy in a Shi'ido's disguise, Chaca couldn't be affected by such things.

Like most children, it could be pretty easily read in his expression that he wanted to ask her about it, wanted to find out why she was different - but he resisted such questions for the moment. It would be a sign of trust in the end, not to question her. She has given him no reason to doubt her yet, and he did realize it may come off as rude to ask her what type of being she was.

"What we need to do first?"

The cathar cub asked, a smile returning to his face

The trap had been sprung. Vallaro turned and watched the Jedi master spasmed as electrical current seized control of her muscles. He grinned wide as the words ran through his head again “Dun Möch”. Eventually, the Jedi broke free of her restraints. An impressive feat to be sure but Vallaro would admire her strength later, he knew he had to press the attack before she could take control of the situation. Flames danced all around him, light playing tricks on the eye to make him seem larger and more imposing than he really was. Smoke billowing from his mouth glowed red as it trapped the light, made it almost appear as if he could breathe fire. The devil's own grin on his face completed the image; This was not someone to take lightly.

“Not good Jedi, your carelessness is putting Padawans at risk. Is this all a master amount to now? No wonder the Sith just keep beating you,” he sneered as smoke and venom poured from his lips. He played a delicate game now, Taunt her enough to break her focus but not so much as to drive her into a rage. Unlike the Sith, Vallaro had no desire to bring her towards the dark side, such a thing would only make the job harder. He simply needed her captured or dead. Unclipped the submachine gun from his rig he fired it toward the Jedi until the magazine liked empty. A wicked volley of full metal jackets filled the space between them. As the gun rattled away the grin on his face grew into a twisted smile. Even without the use of the force, one could feel the murderous intent coming from the hunter. It was clear that he was here for more than just the money; He was here to cause pain.

“We’ll capture them if you don’t act soon. Of course, I could leave you and go kill them instead if that’s what you want? Maybe save your own skin? What’ll it be, Jedi?" He continued his taunts, goading the Jedi master to attack him. It was a risky play but one he was willing to take. More mines laid scattered around him. While she was aware of them now, Vallaro knew just the threat of them would work in his favor. He just had to stick to his plan. If he could break her, he could win.

Elise stood, her legs weak and shaking under her. Beads of sweat had washed over her body-- and still she had not screamed. The currents had no doubt done its damage, a fact which would have been devastating for one of the padawans. Another breath in solidified the Master, her posture straightening and growing steady as she willed force body through her limbs. A false sense of strength carried her through the moment, the Master giving in to the Force's whims.

What would it have her do.

"Ura," her voice cracked, a hand gesturing for the youngling to leave the trees and take sanctuary behind her. Her gaze was sharp as she scanned the buildings, looking for a sign of the second padawan, Amani Serys Amani Serys , who had fled when she had still been downed. "Back on the bike."

A bounty hunter appeared, spouting words to unseat her. She didn't even acknowledge him with a glance, her body language relaxed as she took careful steps to put herself before Ura and the man.

"Fear is the mind killer," she told the padawan, sensing her spikes of emotions as the killer taunted. "He knows that. Remember your-"

The force flashed a warning. A spray of gun fire was unloaded on them.

Ura would feel time slow around them, and from the outside it would seem as if the two jedi had entered a contorted bubble of reality. Everything moved slower inside of it, the bullet's paths clear in the air. A single swipe of her hand scattered them all off course. The air around them walloped as time resumed. The bullets tinkled like rain against the dirt, falling harmlessly to the left of them.

"-Training." Her cool gaze remained even as she stared down the taunting hunter. No tick of emotion cross her features, her attention only zeroing in on him with that much more intensity.

Her voice entered Ura Iolar Ura Iolar 's mind. 'Leave now, Child. I will cover you.' The order was absolute, the woman's mind a sea of stillness. She stepped forward, her robes catching a breeze to reveal an unpulled saber.

"How about we talk about why you are really here, Hunter. It cannot be to just cause pain."

Ura looked at Elise, quickly running over and forming a Force Barrier ahead of her. It was dangerous here now. Was this...? Why would they do this? This planet was hurting and bounty hunters were doing this now. The master tried to calm her down, but what she told her next only seemed to put the Padawan more on edge.

"What? But... Master...!?" She then looked around, "closing" her eyes before running as fast as she could. She shifted into a Razor-Tail Tiger, and quickly started running. She kept trying to reach out for Amani, to tell her what was going on. Please please please.

Amani ducked into the nearest hut to avoid any incoming fire. Using the cover to hide herself from the fight, she tried to slow her racing heart and take a breather. She peered out at the unfolding carnage, watching as Elise was in a standoff with the bounty hunters. The young padawan was tempted to regroup with Ura Iolar Ura Iolar but she feared she would be far too easy a target at this point. Hunkering down, Amani waited for a moment of distraction to allow her an escape route.

Siv did not need to be a Force user to sense the fear radiating off of the two young Jedi -- Padawans, that was the word, wasn't it -- that the older woman was so nobly trying to protect. The older Jedi was likely a Master, Siv deduced, to be entrusted into the care of two young ones, who from every appearance signaled to Siv that they hadn't been properly blooded yet. In another situation, Siv wouldn't have minded obliging them that, but now, he was only concerned about the credits. The next payout. Each Jedi would fetch two-hundred-and-fifty credits, that was true, but there were three Jedi individuals that the Sith Empire had piled a grand total of ten-million credits onto their heads.

It was Siv's customary routine to memorize the faces of those who carried such a high bounty, and for any being that had commanded such a bounty, Siv had spent countless knights pouring over the provided data and going into old holes for audio and visual recordings. And now, as Siv peered through the smoke and debris of the village, the face of the older woman seemed familiar -- a quick facial scan revealed her to be no one other than Elise, one of the three Jedi that the Sith were willing to pay so much for. Ten million credits. . . it was enough to send Siv into early retirement, even though he knew that he would still play the role of mercenary if not for the sake of the thrill.

Siv had full confidence in his martial and blaster skills, but against such a high-ranking member of the Jedi Order, even he was not completely sure of victory. Fortunately, the Jedi were not an unknown concept to him; they had been the ancient enemies of his people, and he had grown up on tales of the old Crusades and the follies of the Jedi Order. While the Mandalorians were built upon the strength of the warrior and the clan, the Jedi had one fatal flaw, a compassion for others. A Mandalorian would never have brought one so inexperienced into being battle, and similarity would not sacrifice themselves for the protection of the weak.

But a Jedi might.

Vallaro's taunts rang across the burning village as Siv sprinted into action, covering the ground with surprising speed and lightness of foot. One of the Padawans had smartly mounted a speeder bike, and would soon be out of reach -- but the other had ducked into the remains of a burnt-out hut. Siv was out of Padawan's view for the moment, but as he rounded the corner he found himself face-to-face with his quarry, almost at point-blank range. Raising his blaster to level with the Padawan's head, he took only the briefest of the moment to note her gender, Female, and race, Miralian. "Surrender, Padawan. You and your Master are outnumbered," Siv said in a growling voice as he took a step towards the Padawan, blaster pointed firmly at her head. It was on stun, but even if it hadn't been, Siv would've had no qualms about killing this child. "If you put down your laser sword and convince your Master to surrender as well, I promise that I will not harm the both of you, the same going for my companions."

"If you don't,"
Siv said, his voice growing even lower, his finger visibly tightening on the trigger as he chose his next words out of a book of Jedi philosophy that the Mandalorian had once encountered, "you and your precious Master will become one with the force."

The fog of war had gotten the better of Amani, her senses failing to pick up on the bounty hunter until it was far too late. Before the girl knew it she was face first against a blaster barrel, and looking past it only to find the emotionless T-visor of his helmet. "I'm not afraid of you," she peeped, quite obviously afraid of him. "And neither is she," referring to Elise , "She could fight you all off on her own." The padawan's blind faith in her superiors was bound to get her in trouble one of these days. True or not, she believed it.

"But... I'll do as you say." If others weren't in danger, Amani likely would have done something that was probably stupid and definitely dangerous. But she saw the writing on the wall, messing up now could get people killed. She didn't trust a word the Mandalorian had to say, but she understood following along was the best bet for now. The weapon slipped from her grasp, the blade dissipating as the hilt felt to the ground beside her with a quiet thud. She swallowed hard and stepped out into view provided Siv Dragr Siv Dragr allowed her, looking desperately to Elise, "...Sorry, master."

Disappointing your heroes was never a good experience, but she had the hope that Elise had a plan. Surely she did, Amani kept clinging to the thought.
