DENON
Das held her breath as she yanked the emergency brake back, bringing her GT to a near-complete stop. The CorpSec speeders zoomed ahead, and just as she’d predicted, one of them pulled the wheel to bash into her; Only this time, there wasn’t a speeder between them to buffer the blow. The Corpos collided into one another, sending sparks and hunks of metal flying as their frames ground together. The speeder on the right pulled away, but his partner wasn’t as lucky. The left-hand Corpo spiraled out of control, his speeder too badly damaged to maneuver after the collision. It smashed into a hovering holo-sign and exploded in a brilliant ball of flames and debris.
The remaining CorpSec speeder began to gradually decelerate, and Das flashed a snarky grin as she sped the GT passed him and back into the bulk of traffic. She couldn’t help but laugh, a mixture of excitement, nerves, and pride swirling inside her.
“
Did you see that?!” she shouted as she turned the volume knob on her dashboard up.
Sam Kolburn
replied with something along the lines of ‘far too risky’ and ‘never do that again,’ but the music was too loud for her to hear him clearly. His face disappeared from the screen of her comm-link. Das accelerated the GT quickly but steadily, not wanted to shock the system from the sudden stunt she’d performed. Repairing a speeder was one thing, rebuilding one after you’ve busted the throttle and crashed it into a cloudcutter is another beast entirely. She’d need to take it slow back to the safe house.
The remaining Corpo was locked on but kept his distance. His speeder couldn’t handle much more than tailing her after the damage it sustained, but if Das knew anything about the Seccers, it’s that he was keeping an eye on her and reporting back to his squad. There’d be more speeders on her tail if she couldn’t break his line of sight. She dialed the music down.
“
Sam, I need to lose this guy - do you see anything on the scanner that could help?”
The AI’s face materialized on the comm-link, but he was focused on an invisible data repository that Das couldn’t see. He stared unblinkingly, his eyes flicking back and forth for several moments before he gave her a smile. “
There’s a tunnel up ahead, through the cloudcutters. If you take the second maintenance route on the right, you’ll be routed for Seven Corners.”
“
You’re brilliant!” Das said to Sam as he beamed, returning to his virtual haven.
Those maintenance routes didn’t stay open for very long. She’d have to book it or risk the blast doors pinching her GT in half, with her inside it. She accelerated her speeder steadily, gaining speed and weaving through the civilian traffic around her. The CorpSec agent kept in tow, though she was gaining a fast lead on him. As she entered the tunnel, she could see the rhythmic flashing of red and blue; The Corpos we’re coming towards her from the opposite end.
The maintenance route came into view a moment later, and she moved to the right-most air-lane to make the sharp turn.
“
Hang on, Sam!” she exclaimed, both hands on the wheel.
