SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Breaking & Entering: Featuring a Peregrine Field Disruptor, the Droch II-class Boarding Shuttle can bypass planetary and capital shielding with ease.
  • Leroy Jenkins: Every effort has been made to ensure the Droch II can swiftly deliver its troops to an enemy target. To this end, conventional defensive measures (such as shields) and a hyperdrive were intentionally omitted from the design. Furthermore, exceptional engine units and maneuverability jets were incorporated, allowing the Droch II to fly apace with an average starfighter.
WEAKNESSES
  • Lightly Armed: The Droch II possesses a quartet of breaching charges - one affixed to each blade - for the purpose of making entry into an enemy hull easier. However, there are no armaments aboard to defend the pod from external attack whatsoever.
  • Defenses: Despite bearing the name “shuttle”, the Droch II lacks conventional defenses associated with vessels of said type. In particular, the sole defensive measure installed upon the ship are its reinforced durasteel plating and frame. This ship lacks shielding units of any sort, nor does it possess any electronic countermeasures.
  • Peregrine Field Disruptor: "Due to the power required to pass through shields of this grade, the Peregrine will burn out any active stealth systems operational on the incursive vessel at the moment of contact, requiring extensive repair. Stygium crystals have been known to fracture as a result. To avoid this hazard, active stealth systems must be deactivated for at least five seconds before the moment of shield-to-shield contact, or damage to the stealth systems will result.

The Peregrine must replace normal ray and particle shield function for at least five seconds prior to contact, leaving the vessel vulnerable. If contact is made before the five second mark, a shield feedback event may damage the field disruptor or either ship's shields, and/or throw the ships apart with some risk of hull damage.

Passing through the shield is a visible and (if in atmosphere) audible event, reported as a loud crackle or thunderclap. Shield generator stations briefly detect an anomaly comparable to a turbolaser impact." (Quoted)

DESCRIPTION

The Droch II-class Boarding Shuttle is a successor to the ancient design fielded by the original Confederacy. Stat for stat, it is a scaled up version of the old vessel, thereby featuring enough room to accommodate a full, twelve-man squad aboard. The design teams focused their efforts on improving the reliability of the vessel, and thereby incorporated breaching charges upon each blade, exceptional engines, and a Peregrine Field Disruptor into the final version. The result was an incredibly swift means of delivering troops to the ground, aboard capital ships, or through shielding on a reliable basis.
