- Go Home Lizard -
There is but one purpose of the Dursosûtuni, and that is to counter ysalamiri fields in much the same manner they are created. Attaching its own 'white noise' to force powers utilized by the creator, this effectively creates a way to ignore what is generally considered a severe counter for force users. As the lizards are living creatures connected to the force, and their power is something very similar to force suppression, they are anything but absolute; though they are extremely imposing, this means that even 'bypassing' the field can not be done infinitely, and comes with costs of its own.
Weaknesses:
- Make It Count -
While it is understandable that as a living entity that controls the force, the Ysalamiri can be overcome; however they have spent eons and ages perfecting their use of a singular force power through evolution. This makes overcoming it very difficult, no matter who is doing it; meaning a catalyst must be used every attempt of the force made. Blood, in this case, is what is taken from the user with each use of the force, be it minor or major it will take what it believes to be equivalent. For a push, it may take a pint, for a storm, it may ask for a life; but so is the cost of overcoming the wall that is Ysalamiri.
[*]Fleeting Thought -
- Although the Dursosûtuni is able to overcome the ysalamiri fields, it can not to this without impunity. The farther the force power intends to work, the weaker it will become before fading into nothing within a few meters; too shall any high intensity strikes lose their effectiveness by comparison without the ysalamiri bubble. That is to say, a notable practitioner of 'Force Lightning' reputed for their ability to turn an enemy to dust after only a few seconds may soon realize that even with the Dursosûtuni their signature move will become something more akin to a low level knight or similar, though this can vary.
DESCRIPTION
The Dursosûtuni is an artifact forged in blood, a ring that betrays its cost with electrum plating and an obsidian core thats visible from inside the band. When put on, the ring seems to shift and morph, fitting to the wearers finger with a near perfect fit; though there is a faint discomfort despite how beautiful it may look. All of this is done for aesthetic purposes only, though the obsidian core has reasons far beyond what the novice may notice.
First however is the reason for the device; to outdo the legendary status of the Ysalamiri. As everything in the galaxy, albeit voidstone and the Yuuzhan Vong, the Ysalamiri is a lizard native to Myrkr; a creature well known for its ability to repel the force by creating a Force-Neutral bubble, now often utilized by the Mandalorians and bounty hunters to find and kill Force Sensitives all over the galaxy. Well earned, this reputation has proven mythical in status and is feared by even the most notable practitioners of the force.
However, while the Ysalamiri has spent eons perfecting their ability to perform this skewed version of Force Suppression, they are still apart of The Force and their ability to negate it is nothing more than what a notable master may do with the same skill. This biological ascendency in the power puts the Ysalamiri far above what most conventional Jedi or Sith would be able to overcome without the use of physical weapons or tactics. However, when a Jedi or Sith are to commit themselves to the same power, there is always the chance to overcome them with practice and attention; though dealing with the legendary lizard is somewhat harder.
This is where the ring known as Dursosûtuni comes into play. Through studying Ysalamiri fields and how the creatures create such a ‘void’ in the force, there too comes the ability to ‘attune’ other force powers to work with it. Consider for a moment how every force users contains around them a ‘bubble’ that protects them to some degree from exterior force intrusions; through a dedicated assault using the proper tactics, skill, and strength can often overcome these barriers. In this, the Dursosûtuni tunes force powers to the same metaphysical energy ways as The Force used by the Ysalamiri; dragging along a white noise that allows passage for a short distance.
Although working to get through the bubble, that does not mean however that force powers retain their principles. The artifact is not perfect, and as such can not ensure perfect use of the force within a bubble at any given time; only that it allows some manipulation of the force itself. This white noise that is tagged to each force power dissipated as its sacrifice is consumed, meaning the more power sought in a force power the more the ring will take from its users; up to death if not followed carefully. Range too is reduced, as the longer any ranged force ability is exposed to the ysalamiri field, the more likely it is to be turned into infinite neutrality, restricting the range to a few meters rather than perfect passage.
In terms of the ring itself, it works through constant sacrifice. Every use of the force must be conscious and decided, and when acted upon the ring will offer its power at a cost. This is the blood of its user, as the obsidian core beneath the electrum stabs into the finger it is attached to and pulls from the user their very essence. As this ichor of life is pulled, drained, and sent to the abyss of the ring, it offers in return a force like white noise that allows small bits of passage through ysalamiri fields, albeit this is extremely limited. This sacrifice is entirely dependent on how much effort is put into the force power, meaning that a strong force push could take far more blood than one could realistically lose and stay awake. Worse still, using something as horrible as a force storm would mean instant death, if the sacrifice was even enough to conjure such a power.
These sacrifices for passage have made the ring notable for its ability, though the costs associated with such drive a hard bargain and what many would consider a last resort for anyone who would use such an artifact. It is because of this it has been locked away, for the time being, until a suitable master can be found.
