- Links: Chiron
- City Name: Dustwind
- Classification: Rural Outpost
- Location: Chiron
- Affiliation: Normally independent though folding in with: Wild Space Republic
- Population: Moderate
- Demographics: Approximately 50% Human, 30% Chironian (native species), 10% Twi'lek, and 10% mixed (Rodians, Zabrak, others). The outpost is notably tolerant, with a reputation for "open doors and shut mouths."
- Wealth: Low - Dustwind isn't wealthy, but trade routes and occasional mineral finds in the plains keep it afloat. Most inhabitants live modestly, but a few wealthy traders and cantina owners make good credits.
- Stability: Medium - While not plagued by war or rebellion, law enforcement is thin and justice is often handled by local tradition or brute force. Infighting between trading interests simmers beneath the surface.
- Freedom & Oppression: High Freedom - Dustwind is known as a haven for drifters, traders, and the occasional fugitive. There's very little centralized control. What laws exist are enforced by a mix of community consensus and hired muscle. Most illegal activity is tolerated if it doesn't endanger the settlement.
- Description: Dustwind is a weathered settlement hunkered down in the windswept plains of Chiron. Made of durasteel prefab structures and salvaged ship parts, the outpost is a strange blend of frontier survival and unregulated commerce. The air always carries dust and dry grasses, and its central cantina, The Last Light, glows like a beacon against the endless horizon. While small, Dustwind serves as a key refueling and information stop for those traveling the Ash Worlds. It's a city of secrets, shifting alliances, and long shadows at dusk.
The Last Light Cantina
The heart and soul of Dustwind. Run by a community leader named

Windspire Relay Tower
An old Republic comms tower retrofitted to transmit long-range encrypted messages. Now semi-operational and mostly maintained by Chironian tech-whisperers.
Dust Market
An open-air market operating only a few days per week. Locals and off-worlders trade goods here, everything from food and ore to black market weaponry.
Watcher's Hill
A natural rise overlooking the settlement. It houses a small observation post and weather station. Locals say strange lights sometimes appear here at night.
Dustwind Landing Field
A dirt-packed airstrip with space for no more than six ships at a time. Run by a one-eyed Dug named Brek, who'll patch your ship up for a fee (or a favor).
SECURITY
The Dustwind outpost maintains a medium security rating, primarily thanks to a network of six security droids programmed by Oriah Katarn. Supplementing this automated defense is a community watch program organized by the residents themselves, comprised mostly of armed locals. Perimeter security is enhanced by motion sensors, ingeniously fashioned from salvaged Imperial technology. Furthermore, Dustwind's defenses are sporadically bolstered by the presence of hired mercenaries or bounty hunters passing through the area. Rumors also persist of Oriah's connections to a highly dangerous and responsive security team that can be called upon in dire emergencies, providing a significant, albeit potentially infrequent, escalation of force.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Dustwind's origins are steeped in the lawless spirit of the frontier. Decades before the rise of the Empire, Chironian settlers, known for their hardy resilience and adaptability, sought refuge from the overcrowded and politically turbulent Core Worlds. Drawn by the promise of unclaimed territory and the lure of profitable opportunities, they ventured into the sparsely populated regions between the Ash Worlds and the well-trodden Outer Rim trade routes. Joining them were rogue traders and independent freighters, individuals who preferred the freedom of the unknown to the regulations and taxes of established galactic powers. Together, they established Dustwind, a remote outpost initially serving as a vital fuel depot and salvage station for those daring enough to traverse the hazardous space lanes.
The discovery of a localized mineral vein, though short-lived, was a turning point for Dustwind. The brief surge in mining activity drew a wave of prospectors, laborers, and merchants, solidifying the outpost's infrastructure and reputation. While the mineral wealth quickly depleted, the attention it garnered cemented Dustwind's position as a valuable frontier waypoint. The influx of people left behind a thriving, albeit rough-and-tumble, community dependent on the steady stream of travelers needing supplies, repairs, and a brief respite from the dangers of the Outer Rim. Over time, Dustwind evolved into a unique melting pot of cultures and characters, a place where fortunes could be made and lost, and where the only law was the one you could enforce yourself.
