- Rad-laced shots: The E-5H is designed to fire blaster bolts tinged with blue phosphorus, leading to heightened range and terminal performance at the cost of rate of fire.
- Slow-Firing: While it does possess the ability to fire fully-automatic, the rate of fire is somewhat slow for an infantry weapon, and the recoil somewhat brisk.
The E-5H, backbone of the Helix Solutions armed forces, was designed as a means to arm its humblest basic troops with something a little more punchy than their ancient E-5s.
Superficially resembling its forbear, the E-5H is in fact far more ruggedly constructed, owing to the need to contain the ammunition it fires more securely.
Operating similarly to a standard blaster, the E-5H takes the novel route of accepting blaster charge packs whose tibanna-gas mixtures have been mingled with a tiny amount of Helix's patented blue phosphorus, each shot containing enough to inflict harm on the target while not ideally damaging much around it.
The result is substantially-increased range and lethality, as the bolts can leave slow-burning, flaming toxic chemicals inside their wound channels in addition to the harm caused by the impact and thermal shock. As ever with blue phosphorus, this can lead to many difficult-to-treat health complications, and even a glancing hit that meets flesh requires prompt medical attention. Additionally, the bolts emit a high-pitched shriek as they fly, owing to a chemical reaction between the excited tibanna gas particles and the blue phosphorus. This distinctive and highly-unpleasant noise can have a deleterious effect on enemy morale, and the sound of many E-5H rifles discharging in unison has ended many battles before they could truly begin.
Still, blasters were not intended to operate this way, and the rate of fire of the weapons has suffered because of it. While not a great impediment to the generally precise soldier droids that carry them, it nonetheless means the user has to pick their shots more carefully rather than rely on sheer volume of fire. Additionally, though the wounds caused by these weapons can be extremely severe and disabling, they have no more penetrating power than a typical blaster rifle, and any armor capable of stopping a normal blaster bolt can stop these.
