Acceleration coils allow for 10km/s projectile speed
Penetration: Thanks to its immense size the EKC-10 can fit a significant amount of powerful electromagnets, which in addition to its large, dense slugs allow for an extreme level of armor penetration. While particle and thermal shields can defend enemy ships from physical projectiles, this weapon is designed to provide enough concentrated fire to batter down these shields and allow for further bombardment.
Accuracy: Because of the incredible velocity of its projectiles the EKC-10 boasts near pinpoint accuracy over range, making it an excellent option especially against larger, less maneuverable starships.
Slow Rotation: As a superheavy emplacement the EKC-10 is bogged down by a slow turn rate and slow barrel elevation, making it useless against anything smaller than a cruiser when it comes to tracking. Even cruisers on the higher end of the speed scale can manage to avoid a target lock from it as well.
Starfighters: The weapon is particularly vulnerable to smaller craft, which are able to nimbly dance around it and target individual areas unless it is protected by point defenses or its own fighter defense complement.
Placement Limitations: With its immense size the EKC-10 can only be placed on ships larger than 1000m, limiting its potential users to those with the capability to produce such ships.
Mass Drivers provide an unmistakable edge in space combat. The ability to penetrate energy-only shields and punch holes in a ship that leave them vulnerable to the vacuum of space and put internal systems at risk of heavy damage. To take advantage of this on capital ships, EODD designed the EKC-10 to be a massive weapon firing large slugs two at a time to batter down deflector shields and punch through armor on less-shielded starships.
While its size leaves it vulnerable to starfighters, the EKC-10 takes advantage of this by equipping advanced acceleration coils, allowing for a projectile speed of 10km/s, above the average speed of the heavier railguns which allows for excellent accuracy at range and incredible penetration on unshielded ships. Firing massive 1x1.8m slugs at this speed makes for a dangerous weapon in this regard, and while many ships come with anti-physical object shields, its twin barrels firing two slugs at a time provide a significant challenge designed to break these shields down and allow further bombardment.
Unfortunately, due to its size, it’s plagued with issues regarding rotation, as it can only turn very slowly in order to get a lock on a target. This limits its usefulness against ships smaller than cruisers, as the tracking of the weapon can’t keep up with faster ships.
