Targeting laser
Stock extends a cheek-rest
Power: WIth a projectile speed of 2.5km/s, the EKR-30L provides exceptional armor penetration and energy transfer onto the target, capable of punching through even light vehicle armor, let alone your typical infantry trooper’s armor.
Range: Its nature as a mass driver with electrothermally-driven rounds gives the EKR-30L exceptional range, outclassing just about anything short of a true railgun. This gives it solid use as both a sniper rifle and an anti-vehicle rifle.
User Friendly: With a stock that extends into a cheek-rest for comfort while aiming, and a forward grip that splits into a bipod, not only is the weapon deadly but it’s highly user friendly, allowing for easy transport and mobility.
Size & Weight: Despite being smaller and lighter than the full-sized EKR-30, the 30L is still pretty big and heavy, especially with a full ammunition load, putting strain on the user with extended time in the field without rest.
Sound: The process of firing a round electrothermally is very loud. There’s almost no way to silence the weapon, and using it on the field may give away the user’s position to observant enemies or those using sound sensors.
Fire Rate: The EKR-30L is magazine-fed, but does not feed the rounds into the chamber automatically. The user is required to pull a bolt located above the chamber in order to load the round, limiting the fire rate.
Recoil: Given the use of plasma-driven rounds, recoil is a major consideration when using the EKR-30L. The power put forward into the round is also delivered back into the user, resulting in significant recoil that can put the user’s aim off-target, forcing them to retarget if the shot results in a miss.
Building on the success of the EKR-30, but hoping to round out the major weakness of the weapon regarding its immense weight, the design team at EODD switched gears from a fully magnet-based weapon to an electrothermal cannon, cutting down on weight while keeping significant damage and armor penetration abilities. Thus the EKR-30L was born.
Using a 5-round magazine of 30x45mm slugs, the EKR-30L fires its rounds not by heavily magnetizing them, but rather by using an electrical charge from a power cell to ignite propellent in each round and utilizing the resultant plasma burst to launch it at extreme speeds. With a 2.5km/s projectile speed it’s capable of punching through even heavy infantry armor, as well as light vehicle armor, though isn’t quite as useful as its bigger brother against heavily armored walkers and tanks. Thus it’s of much more use on the field as a dedicated sniper rifle rather than an anti-material rifle. Rounds are loaded into the chamber via a bolt operated by the user, limiting its fire rate significantly, putting it at a disadvantage compared to semi-automatic kinetic rifles or longblasters.
Still, the EKR-30L is an excellent choice for sharpshooters both organic and synthetic. A forward targeting laser assists in target acquisition and range determination, while the foregrip allows for easier transport on the ground. It also opens into a bipod with a twist of the dial at the bottom, allowing the user an option to aid further in stabilizing the rifle for a shot.
