So, for anyone who's used the new starship template you'll have found a number of example ships that can be copied and pasted. These are really there for two things:
1) They're useful for new members to use. You can find a ship near where you want, tweak it a little, add some strengths, weaknesses and some fluff and you're good to go. Even I will probably start from these when making a new ship. For example I might want to make a super bomber. I'd copy the bomber template, maybe add some more defences and more launchers, but to balance that I'd make it even slower and reduce the squadron count.
2) They're there for experience submitters as examples of what will sail through factory. If you add significant improvements on these without balancing with suitable weaknesses you'll probably be asked for dev.
No one has come to me with any, but I've been wondering if there are any obvious exemplar ships missing?
So if you can think of any let me know here and they might make it into the template. Here's an example suggestion:
Swarm Fighter: A droid fighter, smaller and less capable than a typical fighter (2 laser cannons only) and without shields, but deployed in squadrons of 24.
