Private Exploring New Avenues

Her brows lifted slightly in surprise at the question of what control, if any, that Corseca Bank would have over NCBC. It was not what she was expecting. Afterall it was not their business practice to allow outsiders to in a sense, tell them what they should be doing. "Only members of our Board of Directors have control over our operations and research. That is standard practice, I believe."

Liin wasn't about to allow herself to be a pushover, nor to be walked on. Extra credits were bound to be found through various sources. It would be silly indeed to rely on only one. So that should this one fail to give NCBC the results that they had wanted, there were other avenues to be taken.

"Mister Mer'tall, should Corseca Bank not approve of how NCBC spends their funds, then by all means they are free to withdraw. It can be an added stipulation in the contract so that there would be no penalties for breaking a contract early, if that would put you and your shareholders more at ease."

Casteel's lips curved into a subtle, satisfied smile, the kind that barely touched the surface but spoke volumes. The answer was exactly what he had hoped for: suitable, agreeable, and entirely within his expectations.

"Splendid," he murmured, his deep, smooth voice laced with quiet approval. His ice-blue eyes gleamed with an almost imperceptible flicker of triumph. "In that case, it would be my pleasure to invest in NCBC and its future ventures."

He paused for a moment, the elegance of his posture effortless, as if every movement was a deliberate act of control. "Would I be receiving quarterly update reports on progress and returns?" he inquired. Information was key, and staying informed was not just a request -- it was an expectation.

Once the finer details were agreed upon, it would be a matter of handing it off to his team. The financials would be scrutinized, contracts drawn up, and when everything was properly aligned, the investment would flow smoothly.

A satisfied nod was given, followed by a gentile smile. It had taken more time in this meeting than usual to secure some funding for such a project, but Mister Mer'taal wasn't a Covie. So it was understandable that his methods were quite different. "Thank you. I am certain that the move to expand some of our operations elsewhere will be a successful one."

To his further comment, Liin quickly responded in kind. "Reports of our progress will surely be sent your way." As for returns, well only certain aspects of it would be revealed. Afterall their books weren't open to everyone. As far as Liin saw it, this investment was much like a loan; and one upon which would surely be paid back with a little extra thrown in. The time to get some of their production and storage off of New Cov was now, and it was an expensive move that the Covie couldn't quite pay for while also paying for the reconstruction of Ilic. But in the end it would be quite beneficial.

Rising to her feet, Liin picked up her empty glass that was in need of a refill. "Shall we refresh our glasses for a toast, Mister Mer'taal?"

Perfect. The thought drifted through Casteel's mind, and for a moment, a rare smile softened his chiseled features. The conversation had gone exactly as he'd intended. The deal was essentially secured, and with it, a new and promising partnership.

"Perfect," Casteel echoed aloud, his deep voice carrying a note of satisfaction as he gave a small, approving nod. "I believe a refill is in order, wouldn't you agree? A proper toast to mark the occasion."

At his words, Mikelson moved with impeccable timing, stepping forward to refresh the wine in Director Terallo's glass and in Casteel's own. This was a happy occasion.

Rising to his feet with effortless grace, Casteel raised his glass, his icy blue eyes locking onto hers with a charismatic intensity. "To a lucrative partnership, Director Terallo," he said, his voice smooth and refined, the slightest hint of a smile tugging at his lips. The toast, though formal, was more than that -- it was a declaration of the success that was to come.

Liin kept her smile polite, however she did make a note that her own remark on refreshing the glasses for a toast was ignored. Perhaps she only thought that she had said it out loud, but had instead spoken it only in her mind? Regardless, Mister Mer'taal was her guest and she needed to set her feelings aside and be the best host that she could be. "Yes, I do believe that a toast is in order."

Soon after her wine glass is refilled, Liin rose to her feet and raised her glass in kind. "To a prosperous business partnership. May our coffers continue to overflow." She felt as though she had to stress the level of partnership. Afterall, the word itself has taken a whole new meaning out in the Galaxy that Liin had found to be a very confusing one. There are lab partners, business partners, work partners, study partners, and the like. To think that all of them could be labeled as something intimate was daunting. So it was better to be more specific in that regard so that there was little confusion.

Liin tapped his glass with her own before taking a sip, following the tradition of toasting. "I will be sure to draft up a contract for you by the end of the day. You may present any changes or alterations at your leisure. A finalized contract should be ready in the coming days."

Casteel watched as Liin rose to her feet, her movements measured and deliberate. He observed the way she raised her glass, meeting his with a soft clink that resonated through the quiet space. Her words -- To a prosperous business partnership. May our coffers continue to overflow --rang with an undertone of precision, perhaps even caution. He noted the way she stressed the word partnership, as though she were keen to draw a line, to clarify a point that could be easily misconstrued in the wider galaxy.

A faint smile curved his lips, though his eyes, icy and perceptive, held a touch of amusement. He understood her meaning perfectly. The galaxy had a way of blurring the lines between professional and personal, and in her case, it seemed she was ensuring that there would be no such confusion. Casteel respected that. Nothing irritated him more than emotional entanglements. One of the very reasons Myra's romance with Makai was still a particular sore spot.

He tilted his head slightly, raising his glass a fraction higher.

"To clarity, then," he said smoothly, his voice a deep, polished tone that wrapped around the words with ease. "And to the kind of partnership where our mutual success is both inevitable and expansive."

The rim of his glass touched his lips, the coolness of the water a contrast to the warmth of the moment. He took a measured sip, eyes never leaving hers, before lowering his glass once more.

"I look forward to reviewing your contract," he continued, his tone professional yet laced with the subtle charisma that came so naturally to him. "We'll ensure the terms are mutually beneficial, as all prosperous ventures must be."

He allowed a moment of pause, his gaze assessing, thoughtful. "I have no doubt this is only the beginning of something far more significant," he added, voice just above a whisper, though rich with intent. "For both NCBC and Corseca Bank."

Casteel's smile lingered as he watched her, his words hanging in the air like a promise. The future lay before them, as clear and precise as a well-drafted contract -- just waiting for the ink to dry.
