Factory Challenge of the Month

FACTORY CHALLENGE OF THE MONTH
· Every other month we’re going to be running a challenge for Chaos members. It will be like Restricted Material challenges, but the format is going to change from month to month as well as the prizes.

· Challenges may be set for Individuals or Factions to complete. They may involve roleplay, factory, codex or even OOC challenges.

· Awards could be given out as a competition (One or more winners) or to everyone who fulfils the challenge (limited to one per writer account).

· In a Competition, a thread will be created for writers to submit their claim. The winners will be announced and the thread must be linked as the development thread for the submission and you must clearly label that you are claiming the Factory Challenge for the Month.

· Otherwise to claim your reward you must put forward the thread where you completed the challenge under the development thread and you must clearly label that you are claiming the Factory Challenge for the Month.

· Challenge must be completed within the month. Rewards must be claimed within 30 days of the end of the month of the challenge. E.g. February Challenge must be completed by 30th March.

MARCH CHALLENGE
In an Open RP thread*, have one of your characters get thoroughly defeated in combat. In return you get a Unique Personal Cloaking device so that next month you may sneak away like the worm you are
*This may include threads with any Prefix that are fully open (e.g. Skirmish, Rebellion)

PREVIOUS CHALLENGES AND NOTABLE ENTRIES

I hope we can have a lot of fun with this.

Here's the plan:

Every month/every other month we set a challenge.
This challenge could be roleplay/factory/OOC/Codex based
The challenge could be faction/group/solo based
The challenge MUST be fun.
We can have a winner (best X) or one reward per writer
We pick a suitable rewards (restricted mat, tech, something a judge has submitted)

Do you think this is worth doing?

Do you have ideas for challenges/rewards? I'm more concerned about having enough rewards.

Examples:
Most innovative vehicle submitted by a Faction gets a free mass produced 3000m ship
Any character that gets into a fight in a public, open RP thread and takes a beating gets a free personal cloaking device so they can crawl away on their belly next time
Raid a Faction's shipyards and steal some ships in the month of XXX" Get a submission of a semi-unique fighter (1 per writer who significantly contributed) made out of a restricted material

Yeah, I think making the Factory a more dynamic place is a good idea that could cultivate more interest in it.

How would we do the 'judgement' of it though? I imagine that getting beat up in a public thread would work comparably to a restricted material, where they just link it in their submission? Whereas the most innovative vehicle would be more of a regular competition like the factory has done before.

I think every other month would be better. That will give us more time to come up with original challenges, give people actually the time to do them in larger numbers and also leave time for a review process if necessary.

Certainly. Perhaps one challenge for one month that is faction (minor and major, inclusive of both) and then the next month that is individual. We can rotate it each month and keep our ideas fresh, maybe have a discussion/vote at the first week of the month for the challenge for the following month.

I think we would probably be better off having a separate discussion just about the rewards. I would be more than happy to supply the factory with a material (something not as restricted as Omegium was in the Omega event) or special reactor or something.

Maybe we could create a special submission each month that can be utilized in some way by the person who wins the challenge? Maybe one month make a special reactor and allow X faction that won to utilize it in their own starship without a requirement to do development for its effects?

So I think we can play it by ear.

Every off month we decide:

Is it a competition or a challenge that can be claimed once per writer/faction?
What is the challenge?
What is the reward?

With that in mind:

Let's work up three initial challenges:
  1. A challenge for an individual based on RP (not a solo effort, something that needs interaction)
  2. A competition for an individual writer based on a Factory submission
  3. A challenge for a Faction to complete

[member="Raziel"] - I'm again not sure why we can't allow solo writing to have something? I see that as a theme in posts from you, and it really confuses me. It's alienating a good section of the writer base and I can't really get a grips as to why you push that angle. It doesn't harm the site for solo writing to take place.

Other than the above bit, I like these ideas. Especially having submission challenges where a special material is allowed in the sub w/ no extra dev, and then the winner can produce the item going forward. That's a real good facet.

We want to get factions moving, I believe, since the faction game is weak af at this moment so why not have the challenge be somewhere along the lines where you have to do something against a faction. I am pretty vague cause it's 1 AM but I'd like to see skirmishes where people are actually invested in. Could a challenge where both strides can achieve, both attacking and defending party that is.
