Feedback on Ferus.

I hear the chatter in the background, so here's a thread where those concerns can be brought to light. I take feedback to heart, but if you're not willing to say it here or in a PM, then I don't know it's a problem. Can't fix what I don't know is broke.

Anything you got on Ferus, let me know. Expect for the random avi change. He took a new host from a now dead character Zoya played by [member="Nox"] . Got her permission and all that, but I haven't been around enough to do a lot with it.

Let me have it folks, I need your help to be a better writer.

[member="Darth Ferus"] most vindictive evil guy I know, this new host body will surely make it hard to track you down. Since you in a female body now do that mean you will take up a new cute girl name?

But your a fun writer to go against. I've heard a lot of criticism about the char but in a personal level I've never had a problem although only gone against you once.

[member="Isamu Baelor"]

Tis the avi style used from the original character. Figured I'd keep to the theme since the other writer was kind enough to let me kill Zoya off.

You have anything real though? I'm looking for serious answers, and if you don't then I kindly ask you don't post again.

[member="Darth Ferus"] i think he was just joking around no need for that.

But on another note iv rped with you a couple times even before the new body. Ferus is one creepy sith monster and im happy about that. i think he will be even more interesting before the end of his time :3

Dont start threads you don't finish?

We had a mouse and cat game going in this summer, initiated by you but then you stood me out. And there I was in the rain with no one to give my rose.....

Seriously though, I am in agreement with most of this community. You are an excellent writer.
Something I miss in most dakr jedi/sith is perhaps to write the corruption a bit more. As if the dark side controls you, not the other way around.
The dark side eats folk up in their desire to perfect themselves. Knowing or unknowingly this forces them down paths that will make them put in the corner.
Lets say [member="Darth Ferus"] attempted to assassinate the emperor because he wants the throne for himself? Lets say a trait take overhand on Ferus.

For example on a grandiose level - he could get increased paranoia. Perhaps he starts to suspect that his master/emperor/whatnot will get rid of him since he has become to powerful himself and thus tries to assassinate the very person who rules the sith. Or maybe greed bends him to send his assassins on suicidal missions to gather more wealth to himself...
Or... well, these are mostly plot hooks and not actual help I guess. Hey, what can I say, you are not easy to criticize.

[member="Weiss"]

Surprisingly, you hit all the secret stuff I have planned for Ferus. Killing the Emperor and taking the throne is something that is ongoing in his head. If it wasn't for the Galactic Alliance showing up, he'd have started to show pretty much all those signs.

As for the thread, I'm sorry! I completely forgot until now :< I try to finish all my threads, but life. Gets in the way so much

Honestly, I hate the character of Fer... Okay, I can't even joke along those lines, I love the character. Yes, he's extremely powerful, but you've grown him that way. You haven't just made him powerful, giving him power after power so that he becomes this powerful beast. Instead, from what interaction we've had and from looking at the character, to me you've grown him and his powers so that he is strong, but because he worked at it.

Sorry if I'm rambling.

I like Ferus, he's a pretty cool character to watch.

HOWEVER

As of late, you've let him go flat (I have the same issue with Ajihad). By this I mean he hasn't really had too much personal development. Since Minna, you've really just written him as a powerful Sith Lord who leads the Sith Assassins. He hasn't really been written as a person lately, more just like a figurehead.

I cant say much because youre well over seven thousand posts with him. So really, all ive seen of Darth Ferus is probably not even scratching the surface. From what ive seen, hes a powerful assassin-rogue type character who, apparently, is not a very rogue type character at all, if that makes sense. The fact that he changes bodies is also very cool to me, personally.

Im not sure how much my word really means since I havent seen enough, but I think youre a great writer and Darth Ferus has had an enormous impact on the One Sith.

Speaking of which...remember that thread you wanted to do on Dagobah? ;)

He's become more than a man, he's become a symbol!

My only issue with ferus is that he, in his kit, doesn't seem to have any particular focus. Ferus is a Galaxy renown light-saber duelist, capable of manipulating matter (implying he has a knowledge of particle physics which would be second to none.) Incredibly powerful telekinetic, excellent alchemist, capable of dark transfer and leads the Sith Assassins.

See where I'm going?

He has feats on par with the greatest duelists, the greatest alchemists, the greatest sorcerers and the greatest force wielders and even the greatest scientists.

Yes, it's fine for a character to be strong, and yes it's fine for a character to be good at multiple things, but many of them seem opposite end of the spectrum from each other. I think that may be one of the reasons he looses his identity a little. He's more like a little emperor of the sith, way less like an assassin himself.

I have feedback... But honestly? I don't think this thread is asking for it, given your reaction to even joking criticism. And I don't think you will like what I am going to say because of that attitude. You seem to be seeking more affirmation, than feedback. Which is fine, we all seek it routinely, and anyone that denies that is a rare breed indeed, or lying. But you posted asking for feedback, in a feedback forum, and so I am going to give you such. Unbiased, and objectively. Because honestly? I've not written with you much, if at all, and don't really care one way or other for or against the character. But I have seen that you have an eye for story and plots and 'the long haul' of developing a character. And while I think you have erred in your journey, I think it is able to be fixed, and that you have a ton of potential as a writer.

From reading others here, there seems to be a small consensus at the least that Ferus 'does it all', which can be rather boring to read and be a part of, to be honest. Julius here is stupendously skilled with a lightsaber, and is honing his skill more and more. As he develops as a Knight to a Master, he will be focusing more and more on that aspect, beyond all else. Yes, his lightsaber skills will be intense. I intend for him to know at a level on par with being able to instruct Knight level FU on all 7 forms of lightsaber combat. I want him to know lightpikes, saberstaffs, jar'kai, maybe even a little bit of lightwhips and guard shotos or such. Some would say that is too much, when you can just make the same old TK tank model and still be 'just fine'... Which is not wrong...

But you also don't see Julius mastering much else, and that to me offsets him being an 'apex' user in lightsabers. He can't really use much in the way of Sense powers (excepting precognition and instiinctive astrogation, to a degree, in that they relate to battle)... He has some skill with Alter powers, but where they are developed to now will be about as strong as they become..And surprise, they relate directly to enhancement for battle. Control he is pretty much useless at using or learning. Yes I could argue and spam out training threads and RP learning all sorts of weird powers or skills. It would be easy to view Force Powers as an ala carte selection that are selected only to enhance the character. It's so easy to most of us don't realize it unless someone points it out.

But I don't. Or I at the least try really, really hard not to...No one is perfect, after all. But I try not to, because down that path leads to the Snowflake, or the Mary Sue, and I know neither of those are your intent with Ferus. But lets be honest, with all the 'apex' level skills you have acquired, you are pushing that pretty strongly at this point, intentional or not... Even someone who was once a Sith Empress, and several other arguably 'apex' level characters in certain fields (Rave Merrill for Alchemy, Ashin Varanin etc...) on these boards don't really possess all the high end talents to such a developed degree you do. And that should be a good indicator that things may have creeped by without your noticing it.

In the end? I think you overstacked Ferus on powers. And, some people here seem to think they lack right to criticize you because you have so many posts, and some might think that such a post count justifies a breadth of ability like yours. Both of those opinions are, in my estimation, beyond wrong. But that is a tangent for another day - suffice to say post count in no way justifies power or ability. Quality of writing and character do, but no matter how much quality you have, I think you've pushed the envelope too far. I think you need to find a way (body transfer gone wrong, something) and 'lose' some abilities and find a true purpose and archetype/calling/niche/whatever for Ferus. I'd suggest the assassin bit. As he is now, he is spread very thin, but instead of doing a lot of things a little(which is common, and acceptable, if boring to me), you do a lot of things a lot, and that just isn't cool for most folks, regardless of my positive opinions of you as a writer or your ability to plot and set a scene well.

All in all, I wish you good luck, and I hope you either find the solid, genuine advice you were looking for, or if not, that something of this thread helps you in some way to whatever end you were seeking.

My reaction to joking or one liners for feedback is pretty simple. I made this thread to get real feedback. If that's not going to be offered, please, don't clutter this thread.

That being said, thank you for giving me the feedback you did. No, I'm not offended, nor am I mad. I in fact agree. Which is why I've been weaning him off of using certain powers to more or less solidify him in one or two specific things. Which is difficult, given the amount of things I've had him trained in. You have any suggestions on what I should do?

Whoops. Just read the bit about the body transfer gone wrong. Sounds like a good idea to me. Ferus can't actually do such a thing himself, and relies on the assistance of other Sith. He's already done so once, making this the second. I was originally planning to make this new body way to frail for Lightsaber combat, but I can certainly take it a step farther to lost knowledge on the forms themselves. A complete wipe, then toss in some other needless powers to shrink it all down.

Thanks again for the actual feedback. I didn't and still don't want to give off the air that I'm looking for affirmation of what I've done. It's not why I suggested to have the feedback forum. But I also still don't want one liner responses done for the luls or likes. So please, anyone who will be posting, if you're not here to help me become a better writer, but just post funny/sarcastic posts, don't.

[member="Darth Ferus"] - I can think on it and get you some, but i'm pushing like... 20+ hours wake for the fourth stint in a row, so i'ma go home, collapse, and then i'll hit you up on skype (I think I have you there) to discuss?

[member="Darth Ferus"]

I have thought long and hard about what to reply to this thread. I could write a huge essay or just leave a snarky comment, but at the end of the day I think all criticism can boil down to a single thing.

You care too much about what other people might think.

And from my perspective that influences your every move on the board.

[member="Gregori Starvald"]

I'm glad you didn't leave a snarky comment. I would have reported it.

And you're right. I will never deny that I care what other people think. But this is an RP, where everyone comes together to write a story. This isn't a job, where I don't have to get along with my coworkers to do what I have to. This is a place where I write to give other people something to respond to, to help them develop their stories and in exchange they help me develop mine.

So I ask you, is it so wrong that I care what people think of me? That I want to be the best I can be without people spreading hate and disdain on me as a person just because I wrote something they didn't agree with? Haters are gonna hate, but when I see groups of people I've never met shy away, something is obviously wrong and I need to fix it.
