FIRST GORDOSA CUP PREMIER POD RACE: Sakura

Sometimes a girl just needed to relax and have fun. In this instance, Danget Arceneau was going to do some gambling as well. She had credits on the up and coming pod racing star.

Let's see if he'll bring in the credits today. Sitting in her private box, she watched it all from under a wide brimmed floppy hat to keep the heat off her face.

He blinked as several of the other racers finally got their poodoo together long enough to get in. Damn, that was a lot of stuff. Oh well, he had to stay vigilant and keep ups this lead. But how? He grinned as he got a stupid idea. If he had grinned much wider, his masked might've tented out a little. Ah, well. Now it was time to have fun. It was time to initiate the one part of this that would even throw Gordosa off.

The real plan. He pushed a button and pressed it.

--Meanwhile, because it's funny--

A "dummy" droid interfaced into the PA system. It'd taken him a moment to received the remote signal to upload, but hey, it was worth it. And funny as hell. The program uploaded and the footage on the various holofeeds seemed to skip briefly. The video stayed the same, but the audio was overridden by music. Incredible, powerful operative music echoed in background to the arena, arias filling the system with joy. Olidiv's little override was just enough to have some fun--mostly, he wanted to impress a few buyers with this little slicing stunt of his.

--Back to our race--

Olidiv laughed as he heard an echo of the operatic power. He grinned wildly. His note. The Tenor. He remembered it well. "For I, who slay these wretched Huks, was wrought, again, to staaaand...." He roared as he got a little wild, shaking his tail at the turn gently,

"And as the splintered sun doth set, a saber fills my HAAAAAAAANNNDDDDD!!!!" He bellowed as he tried another jump, this time it was a bit more erratic. Was he in control,or was it the adrenaline surging through his nutty little brain? Hard to tell. Still, he wondered if anyone would read his moves at this point, or if the lead was going to be lost. Either way, this was a fun night. Loads of it.

Neon red splashed against Sressechka's goggles like fireworks as she sat in the wake of [member="Olidiv Kenu"]'s draft, waiting patiently for a moment. But the leaves smacking against her lenses were getting annoying, and she needed to get out from behind him to avoid the possibility of flying blind--especially since two of the other pilots had finally hit the track. There could be traffic to deal with in the last couple laps.

Traction was a bit slippery--even for the repulsorlifts--on the leaf-strewn ground. The anti-gravity lifters pushed for solid surface and kicked around the red carpet, disintegrating some of the leaves as they fluttered up into the flame of the turbine pods. The leader seemed pretty excited up ahead of her and started piloting his racer a little recklessly, aiming for an unnecessary jump. The twi'lek pilot decided to take advantage of this and use the slippery ground to her advantage.

As she rounded a turn, Sressi grit her teeth and activated the airbrakes on only the left propulsion unit and let the right side drift around. Completely sideways, her podracer whipped around the corner as if it had been launched from a slingshot. The twi'leks tails whipped about in the wind and she felt the air tugging on them. It was exhilarating. "C'mon, c'mon, c'mon..." If she could correct her rotation properly before running up into the brush along the side of the track, she could find herself challenging for the lead again.

If she corrected it properly...

Just watching from the yacht of the Hutt, he had never watched a Pod Race before even though he lived on Tatooine. He was at a table with the race on a holotablet in the middle, drink to his right, hidden lightsaber on his left inner thigh. His mask and a small desert scarf was all he wore. His finely toned but scared body was nude, his pants were a dusty black., and his boots scuffed black. "This....seems overly dangerous." He said as he sipped his drink.

Ugbolt's feet still kicked at the air as he went around the course miraculously not dying in the process and gave credence to the thought that being lucky and dumb was better than being unlucky and brilliant. Gordosa laughed heartily at the spectacle until the operatic music took over and he was no longer able to use the PA.

"Get that thing fixed Drak!" he yelled over the music to his majordomo who smoothed his dark robes before moving to find and fix the problem.

Lap four was coming to a close and that meant only one lap to go. Gordosa double checked his bets and worked out that the new comers had probably 10-1 odds on them. He made sure he had his employees put in their bets and watched as RG-13 walked to update the leaders board.

@Sressechka First place with a 12
[member="Olidiv Kenu"] Second place with an 11
[member="Erin Darkstar"] Third with an 8 but is having engine trouble.
[member="Morgaine deWinter"] Made up one lap and is now only one behind with a 17
[member="Tross Sergo"] Made up a Lap but is still one lap behind with a 15

Gordosa sent a brief message to the Red head trade queen, [member="Danger Arceneau"].

"Your bet." he wrote, "are you certain?"

She was back in the lead with only one lap to go! Now was just a matter of holding [member="Olidiv Kenu"] off and making sure she kept up the pace to keep the trailing racers trailing. It was her show now, and she would make sure it stayed that way. With her bulky vehicle, she maneuvered across the track and endeavored to mirror the movements of her close challenger and block his attempts at passing. This required a lot of concentration and slowed down both pilots, which is why Sressechka had forsaken the lead earlier, saving up her energy for the final stretch.

Rounding one of the final bends in this winding circuit, the rutian had to swerve to avoid ramming into a rather sporadically driven podracer. She took a split-second glance at the pilot and was bewildered by what she saw. Were those feet?

It was best to ignore them for now. She had a race to win. With narrowed eyes and teeth nervously chewing on her tongue, Sressi bent over her controls like a jockey, arms locked and tense as the racers came in sight of the finish line. Could she hold them off for the last kilometer? "Stay back there, guys. Stay back."

"OH YOU GOTTA BE FETHING KIDDING-" He was interuppted as he went to turn, which only resulted in more damage. He crashed into the side of a tunnel, as he attempted to take a short-cut which would almost certainly get him in front of someone. His speeder flipped over on it's back, pinning Tross under. Flames began to appear as what was left of the pod, slid out of the tunnel and into sight. He punched the side of the pod, shouting for assistance. "GET ME OUTTA HERE, HELP ME!" He shouted, pounding on the side of the pod. He needed help and he needed it fast.

Kenu watched joyfully as Ssrecha got ahead of him keeping him guessing. "Cute, wagging her tail in my face to try and block me....shame I'm as crazy as Desmond," he mused, grinning as he got yet another stupid idea.

She was going to keep blocking him, then he was going to tackle her. Just like a game of shock-ball. But, you know, at half the speed of sound.

He pushed on the control gently, riding her Sheb as he leaned the nose under, eating some after burner on the paint job as he began to try and nudge his chassis under her passenger compartment. He then pushed into a spinning turn, using the weight to nudge her tail-end too far and spin out--he hoped.

Admittedly, there was also a slim--okay, a fairly sizable chance--that this plan would send them both flying. Hard to tell. But, if he planned this idiotic trick right, he'd pull out of the spin and get a lead going while the others slowed down to move around him.

Or, he did it wrong and got them both killed. Maybe. Possibly.

--In the data terminal--

The pit droid, sensing the impending override, disconnected the system and removed the connection, letting the PA system resume normal function. Olidiv was a touch saddened by the loss of control over the cameras, but, well, he did get to test his pirate broadcasting system, and that was a plus.
