The BB-10 astromech droid is capable of integrating with the navigational computer of a TIE/sf mark 2, enabling the pilot to focus on maneuvering his or her starfighter and operating the weapon systems, while the droid conducts all hyperspace jump course calculations. Each unit is additionally internally equipped with an emergency beacon set to activate upon detection of the pilot initiating the ejection sequence -- proof of the First Order's continued commitment to safeguarding and prolonging the lives of its innumerable fighter pilots.
Due to the small size and specialized primary programming as an astromech droid, the BB-10 unit has very little capacity for additional programming and is designed with functionality and practicality in mind, rather than future reprogramming. As such it is more or less incompatible with upgrading.
