Objectives: All
Far, far above the harsh desert sands of Culroon III, in a different kind of inhospitable environment existed, a place so cold that one would, quite literally, freeze to death if they spent more than a few seconds outside. Space, the place where the most opportunities for advancement existed...and the most chances to meet one's end. Aculia was there today, in a new Elysium Navy uniform complete with an officer's cap, taking the First Strike Group of the newly formed
XIII Battlegroup on what was officially a "special anti-piracy operation" around the system. It would certainly shock those of those that knew her, to see her so formally being caged by a commission much like
Martin Dux who was bound to the King, but...
Sacrifices must be made if you are to advance your aims and truly help the refugees you swore to protect all those years ago from predation and slavery. And, like it or not, fleets have more of an impact there than a single laser sword ever could...at least until one got close enough to sever a tyrant's head from their body. This, too, serves that purpose, if
Rex Valhoun
,
Loreena Arenais-Valhoun
, or even
Kimiko Taiyou
get out of line when it came to maintaining their rule. Besides, an officer's salary is much better.
Besides, it was much nicer up here on the HMS Valiant, the command
Aspis she was in. Climate control, officers who follow the most important orders like fetching you food or getting some lowly private to do your laundry and bed, not having to run the risk of having your life snuffed out of all a sudden by one lucky gunshot. She could see why
Grand Shepherd Burtch
tended to stay aboard his ships for the most part. It was nicer in a lot of ways that being a ground pounder simply was not. She knew, having been a ground pounder herself.
Strike Force Agathon was, for the most part, respecting the borders of the local planetary authority, refraining from entering the atmosphere, aside from a small squadron of
Argus SAWACs craft nominally scanning the planet for pirate activity, along with one squadron of
War Hawks for security against ground threats and two squadrons of
Strike Eagles to guard them against attacks from enemies in the air. She doubted whoever ran this desolate planet had more than a squadron or two of fighters and bombers between them, so it's not like they could have refused.
Of course this whole thing was just a massive fabrication to provide some immediate relief to any of the Elysium forces on the ground if things really went haywire, and evacuate the Queen if things really went south. She wondered if her marriage to
Rex Valhoun
was all the pleasant, given that she liked going on these missions where she risked life and limb personally. Aculia had not quite yet been able to figure out that whole arrangement, but it seemed there was definitely more than meets the eye going on there.
This is certainly a roundabout and limited way to impose our influence on this planet. Definitely more of a hearts and minds type kind of campaign.
Maybe this is a bit more of Loreena's way of doing things, given that Rex so far has been a fan of the more direct ways such as shelling cities to dust and bombing the Nejidi even further back into the stone age than they already were.
Yawning, she leaned back in her command chair, and let herself listen to scenery around her, finding a bit of peace within the Force. If things looked particularly bad or if they needed help, the agents would know use their secure commlink to the fleet.
