For Want Of Common Ground (Darlyn Excron)

Darlyn continued to stir his tea with the Force as he listened. He had a slight smirk to his face as he listened to [member="Veiere Arenais"] first, how did he manage to make a genuine approval sound condescending? Jedi and their fancy tricks he had to assume, though the fact of the matter was he wasn't saying it was stupid. Nor was [member="Lady Kay"] when she chimed in. He breathed a bit, slowly letting his lungs fill with air. Of course she asked something more detailed, about specifics. Well where to begin. "If I say sort of, I don't think that will explain it enough. I've been thinking about it a while to be fully honest, I've always liked children you know. Fatal flaw you can say. And since everything that happened... it's been in the back of my mind. And I enjoyed speaking with a couple of children from an orphanage when I was out and about one day, so.."

"I don't suppose you've got a particular preference?"

He asked with a grin, Veiere whom saw a somewhat different side of [member="Darlyn Excron"] that was frankly more likable than his at times reckless and erratic behaviors of the past.

The ambition that would be his thinking formost of another life before his own, learning to love and seek to do all that he could to protect this would-be son or daughter of his, it would all go a long way for the younger man if he took it seriously; something for which despite Veiere's past comments and disagreements with Darlyn, he had the utmost confidence in the mans integrity to do so.

"The younger the better, that they come to grow and learn from your role modeling. They say that the first five years of a childs life is the foundation for which they develope, it's these years that are crucial to who they will become later in life..." Veiere had been reading about such things, he was not at all talking form personal experience.

[member="Bradshaw Ku"] had probably been awkward both for the lad and Veiere himself wondering if [member="Lady Kay"]'s son would grow to accept and like him. The loss of Shaw Ku in their lives forever shadowing Veiere's place to some degree, atleast to his mind and concerns.

In many ways, [member="Darlyn Excron"] was sounding like Ghorua, although Darlyn was braver and had actually gone to the orphanage on his own and spoken with a couple of the children there, whereas Ghorua didn't until she was there with him. Still, the surprise was a good one. Kay knew of Darlyn's soft spot for children. They hadspoken about it before, most especially after the attack on the Praxeum.

She sipped her tea as she looked to [member="Veiere Arenais"] , a smirk coming across her face as he spouted what could be believed to be something that he could have read from a parenting book. Did he spend some of his time doing research on it? Maybe she should have done that too. When she had adopted [member="Bradshaw Ku"] and [member="Rae-Anna Ku"] , they were both over five standard years old. But then her later circumstances that led to them being seperated weren't normal. The whole infant and toddler stages were completely missed. Now they were both going to be learning how to raise them together.

It was both exciting and completely frightening at the same time.

"Yes, have you gotten any of the children in mind? We can free up some staff to help look after the child while you are working or off world if you'd like."

"One, so far at least. A bit older but, I have some pity for the older kids you know? Adoption trends are, a bit curved. The youngest ones get adopted but that drops off real quick. It's not a hopeful thing for them." He sighed a little bit and put the cup down. "I sort of assumed that taking care of the child while I'm working or off world would be relatively tended to. Whether I gave you warning or showed up with the kid." He looked from [member="Lady Kay"] to [member="Veiere Arenais"] several times, trying to tell what they were thinking. He could guess Kay somewhat, amusement at Veiere's words.

Veiere, he couldn't really figure out what his grin meant. "Well, i suppose with my voices of reason not telling me it's a bad idea, there's no real reason to suspect the plan is bad. Or at least something obviously a bad idea. I hold you both at fault for what may come, at least the parts not, well, my fault."

"Just try to remember Darlyn, you're the adult and the one that's going to be this kid's role model..."

Veiere chuckled softly to himself, shaking his head slowly in light hearted amusement. [member="Darlyn Excron"] being a father-figure, he would make a good one too if he could find his feet. Having Children sort of forced a man to find his way, to come to his senses and try to better secure his life for their sake. For all good men in any case.

"Naturally we will be here to help with whatever you need. Be it advice or someone to watch over the kid when you're needing a break...-I'm sure there's bound to come a time".

Finishing the last of his glass of Whiskey, he returned to the bench to pour himself another and soon twisting the cap back upon the bottle seeking to store it back up in the cupboard just shy of eye level. Drinking had a way of bringing a man a sense of ease though it was best done in moderation; he had never been the type to drown himself in the bottom of a bottle though he had known Darlyn to show up from time to time smelling not so far off. He was rather looking forward to seeing what new life lessons their younger friend might be taught in this new endeavor of his.

Kay smirked a little into her tea cup. Oh yes, she could inagine [member="Darlyn Excron"] dropping off his adopted kid over to their place often enough. It wasn't as though his job was a safe one. But then again, the same could be said about [member="Ghorua the Shark"] with his career path, yet he is a fantastic father.

She finished her sip before speaking. "I know what it's like to adopt older kids. I did so with Brad and Rae-Anna. I'm sure that if circumstances weren't what they were, then they could've been excellent examples to go by. But maybe if they didn't have a few years of being in a family, then they would've turned out worse."

Kay closed her eyes for a moment. She needed to move her thoughts away from that tragic event. Even though she had thought that she had put it behind her, it still came up every now and again. Just the same as her abduction and captivity did. Some memories were doomed to haunt forever.

Given that [member="Veiere Arenais"] didn't ask him, Kay looked to Darlyn and inquired, "So tell us about this kid you've chosen. A boy? A girl? What's their name? What are they like?"
