Forests of Despair

"Well...I...i, didn't mean to uhm..say that." Katelyn sighed in defeat, not wanting to disappoint Gray or make him unable to sleep. "They...uhm, their about when my master was killed by pirates......and when my adopted parents...died in a fire!"

Katelyn teared up slightly at the latter one she said but she tried to wipe away her tears to look strong for Gray. She didn't want to look weak and pathetic but strong and heavy in willpower. Katelyn guessed she was failing at that but all that mattered to her at the moment was trying to help Gray through his struggle of nightmares. She slowly scratched the back of his neck, she did it slowly yet also softly as to not left her nails scrape up Gray's neck despite them being rather short..

Gray rubbed his face for a moment while she spoke. He could tell how much it was getting to her. He had been there, was still there really. It was never easy dealing with those kinds of things. He patted her on the leg as he said, " It's alright. I understand. My parents passed away not long ago as well. It is never easy to get over those kinds of things. Better to let it out than let it eat you up."

Gray smiled for her as he patted her leg again. He said after a moment, " No need to worry about me now. I'm not shaken up anymore. They never bother me for long. So if you want to get back to sleep, feel free to. I'll just lay back down next to you and try not to wake you up again."

"Ok...try not to wake up again..." Katelyn gave Gray a comforting hug and a squeeze on the shoulder.

She released him before crawling back over to a pillow at the end of the bed and laying her head down upon the pillow before her black hair falls in front of her face. Katelyn closed her eyes before falling back into a sleep-like-trance as all sleep was. As if you were in a trance, only to awaken when the time was right. She placed her right hand in front of her face which was facing towards her right, leaving the left side of her head laying upon the comforting and rather cool pillow before. Katelyn moved her legs slightly before stopping and remaining motionless, save for her chest moving up and down.

Gray just laid there for who knows how long. He just spent his time listening to Kat's chest moving up and down until he faded into the darkness of his dreams. He didn't dream this time around. He was just in a complete state of emptiness as he laid there sleeping. After some time a wake up alarm was sounded in his room. It wasn't especially loud, but loud enough to wake him up. He opened up his eyes and all he saw was...hair? Why was he looking at that? Then he realized why he was. He had turned over some time in his sleep and wrapped his arms and legs around Kat.

Gray said as he let go of her, " Sorry about that." He turned over onto his back and winced a bit. His back still hurt despite the meds he had taken last night to cure it over night. He rose up slowly and got off the bed. He stretched his muscles before turning to Kat. He said, " Want to eat something? I got some rations in the common area if you do."

Katelyn hadn't actually noticed that Gray had wrapped his arms and legs around her. Heck, she didn't really feel it...well she did but not in legs and arms. But more of feeling like she was being hugged inside of a dream. Save for one thing, she wasn't actually dreaming and was actually being 'hugged' in reality. Katelyn's hazel eyes fluttered open when Gray said something to her. She sat up on the bed before wiping her black hair out of her face and over her left eye, holding a puzzled expression upon her face. What did he mean by 'Sorry about that?' Might as well ask him about it. Katelyn pulled her legs over the side of the beg before standing up.

"Sorry about what? I guess that would be nice to do.."

Gray looked over at Kat as she got up. She didn't seem to have noticed what he did. It might have been better if he didn't say anything about it. Yeah, definitely better he didn't say anything or he would get hit again.... He said to her, " I spooned you last night it seems. Woke up with my arms and lags wrapped around you. So sorry. You probably don't want some strange guy doing that to you." Okay so honesty was the best policy. He smiled at her and added, " So about that food. You want some of it?"

Gray figured it was time to be host again and start entertaining his guest. He wasn't sure what she might want to do, but he was going to find out when/if they ate.

Katelyn's mouth took the form of a questioning smile at what Gray did when they were sleeping. It didn't necessarily bother Katelyn seeing as how she had been in worse situations but just in general, Katelyn wasn't annoyed or ticked off by it. Will, maybe a little. Katelyn got up from the bed and gave Gray a playful punch in the shoulder, not strong enough to hurt Gray, but still strong enough to make Gray take notice that she punched him. She crackled the knuckles in her right hand with her left hand. This let off a few clicks of bone as they were relaxed and lightly cracked.

"Sure, I'll have some food."

Gray felt her punch his shoulder and as glad to see she wasn't too offended by it. He knew not everyone enjoyed waking up to someone else spooning them. Especially if they found them to be unattractive, but he didn't really know her opinion on his looks. He smiled to her and said, " Alright, then follow me to the common area and I will get some food in you."

Gray headed to the common area of his ship that was build much the same as any other. There was a circular booth with a table in it for people to sit at, a series of cabinets to hold the food and drink rations, and a small kitchenette to prepare any food that required it. He walked over to the cabinets and began to rummage through it. He said as he did, " Would you rather have a grain ration, protein ration, fruit ration, or a combination breakfast ration? Sorry there isn't anything other than travel rations in here. I don't tend to use fresh rations. Oh and would you rather have water or a glass of whiskey or brandy?"

Katelyn followed Gray slowly into the common area. Along the way, she crossed her arms across her chest before walking into the common room. She leaned her back against a nearby wall, closest to the hallway, closing her hazel eyes. Mostly to 'rest' her eyes. She kept her eyes closed when Gray began to speak up again about rations. Katelyn un-crossed her arms and opened her eyes before creeping up behind Gray. She gave him a light kiss on the cheek before responding.

Let's see what do I want? Protein? Grain? Fruit? Combination Breakfast? Hmmm, I do like me some fruit and probably not some whisky....I do need to lay off of it for a while.

Katelyn drew away from Gray for a slight second to respond. "I'll have a fruit ration...along with some water, please. Also...your quite the gentleman, aren't you?"

Gray did not expect the sudden kiss from behind while he was seeing what he wanted for himself. Did he do more than just cuddle her last night? If he did he must have been good to get this kind of a response out of her. He did blush lightly for a moment before he heard what she said. He said back, " Thanks, I try to be. I'll get you your stuff if you want to go sit down and relax."

Gray pulled out one of the fruit ration packs, one of the combination packs, a bottle of water, and a half empty bottle of whiskey. He took those to the table and set them down. He went back and got two glasses out of one of the cabinets and went back. He set a glass down in front of Kat and then sat himself down with the other. He opened up the bottle of whiskey and poured himself a glass. He wasn't sure why, but he really wanted some that morning. He put the cork back into the bottle and then grabbed his pack of food. He opened it up and began to eat some of the dried mixture of meat, fruit, and hard bread.

As Gray ate, he said, " So beautiful, is there anything you would like to do? I think I have some cards and a board game around here somewhere. Also can watch some videos. Or is there something else you would rather do?"

Katelyn squeezed his shoulder lightly which she believed was the one that wasn't as injured as the rest of her body. She then turned away from Gray and walked over to the circular booth and scooted into the seat, closest towards the left-side of the middle. Katelyn reached her hand's over towards the edge of the table closest to her and rested her hands down, lowering her arms and shoulders as she did so. While Gray was getting the food and drinks, Katelyn popped her neck towards the right and then towards the left. Once she finished she rubbed the back of her neck lightly with her right hand before hunching over the table, her shoulders facing towards the center of her table and her spine bending to where her elbows could rest upon the table.

Once Gray brought over the food and drink, Katelyn first began to eat from her fruit ration. Filled with shriveled up dry ration's, some being fruit that she had never seen before while others were one's she could easily identify.

Katelyn blushed at the beautiful remark along with taking a long and slow sip of her water before placing it back down upon the table. "Oh, you are quite the charmer! Also, a board game would be nice."

Gray took a drink of his whiskey as Kat spoke. When she finished he smiled at her and said, " So the pretty lady wants to play a board game? Well as soon as my food is gone I'll go grab it. What kind of board game would you like to play? I have a chess game and then one that involves beating your opponent to winning over the heart of some fictional person?" He picked up some of his food and threw it into his mouth. He chewed on it for a bit before he swallowed. He took another drink of his glass before he said, " So are you sure you don't want some of this whiskey? It's not the best, but it's not the worst either." He smirked and added, " Or are you worried that we will both get a little drunk and end up in bed together again?"

Katelyn finished off her fruit ration before placing it on the table before taking her water in one hand. Katelyn took a long and slow sip of the water before placing it back upon the table. Katelyn let off a blush at the remarks that Gray was making. Well one thing was certain about Grey, he tried to flatter pretty women...and it worked quite easily to his advantage. That, or Katelyn just enjoyed compliments and what not more than the average person. Katelyn trailed her hand lightly up and down Gray's arm, trying to avoid the heavily bruised parts of his arm while still trying to see if he was ticklish.

Katelyn took another sip of her water again before placing it back upon the table. "Since you keep on begging...I'll have some of your whiskey. Also, I guess chess would be nice. Who know's, I might win! Though, you might have more experience."

Gray watched and felt Kat trail her hand up and down his arm. He smiled at her as she did and put a hand up to her shoulder. He squeezed it and said, " Alright. I'll grab that chess board in a moment beautiful. I hope you don't mind a strong drink, because this stuff has a bit of a kick to it." He took the bottle and poured some of the whiskey into a glass for her. He slide it in front of her and corked the bottle. He smiled and said, " So how are you feeling this morning? I hope better than you did when we met yesterday."

Gray took a drink from his own glass and went back to eating his food as he waited to hear what she had to say. He was feeling pretty good right now, even with the massive bruising he had on his body. He hadn't had someone to talk to while on his own ship in years. He forgot how lonely he felt without anyone else around, and while Key did help it to a degree it was much better to have another living person.
