Fortifying and Preparation?

So I know there was an agreement between the One Sith and Republic that there would be no invasions until after the New Years, so I figured we should prep for whatever happens going forward.

There was a thread a while back where everyone were giving ideas on planets to dominion, etc etc (believe it was called "So lets talk survival") however, I bring that up because I had ideas on things we could do to work with what we have etc etc as I'm sure everyone does.

So i'm starting this thread to see if there are any folks that are interested in preparing and fortifying what we do have, instead of putting our entire focus into gaining more and more planets and not really using them.

We could discuss it, I had a few ideas I'm sure others do as well. (Slight edit)

Absolutely. A bit RL busy so slow posting.

I am not sure about what effect forts and bastions do have in invasions though, it seem to me its more up to duels but maybe thats about to change ;)

Also, we do need a flow of dominions to the south. If the invasions start I would guess they would try to cut our "corridor" off, so imo we need to appoint a second capital in the south in case we get cloud-breaked again.
 
Forts and things of that nature can be significant and also insignificant. The invasion of Kashyyyk was fought in a fortress set up by the Republic. Things like that can sometimes help when your fighting in familiar territory with defenses created by you, etc. Though it depends on the situation really.

I don't mind dominions, but I feel they need to serve a purpose other than just having territory just to have it so we have somewhere to run, or just to expand the cloud.

Just discovered today that there's a clone army, we could possibly add to that by having Planetary Security Forces contribute to the military as more planets are dominion-ed.

Then there's the Vong thing, we have Arkania, we could see about a Baffor pollen agent.

Things like that, were we actually use the resources of the planets were pulling. Those things would help. Obroa-Skai has medical facilities which would equal more medical supplies, etc

If it matters we could of course try to set up defences. Actually there was a dev thread a while back but ut ended with me and one more writer trying to wrap it since others dropped out. I'll see if I can find when I am back on a comp (out of towm atm)
No one ever actually created the fort though so it was sorta wasted. We need both rp threads and someone to actually create the lications. I csn be part of the first but suck at the second.


As for dominion stories we need the FAs to drive a common story me thinks. I am trying to connect the recent doms with a sense of desperate refuggehelp. The worlds lost in the southern cloud tossed into chaos and we need to help them somehow. But we are not that many involved so maybe that idea was a poor one.
I would however say that the faction keed to expand south and be willing to abandon yhe northern parts if we are to avoid being suffocated. Just my five cents.
 
Alrighty, though we should probably go after Onderon and Metalorn as well. Metalorn would help with ship building and Onderon has a powerful monarchy, city defense, and militia.

We should probably make Carida a fortress world, and have the military stationed there by rebuilding the old academy they had there before.

One Sith already took Onderon. Or started a dominion of it, at least.
 
Well I thought about O'reen, which was a fortress world that used satellites throughout the sector to serve as like an alert system to sudden invasions, just used for monitoring. It was all created by the Republic, but eventually the program was abandoned. I figured we could discover some of these satellites amongst the junk of Metalorn and recreate them. That was the dev part.

Could probably even get some ships, droids, and bases out of it if we're smart about it.

The dom part, I was thinking a story driven, campaign similar to the Stark Hyperspace War or The Battle of Jabiim that's like a disastrous and prolonged battle that can happen in multiple places. I haven't really gotten into the details. But I guess the conflict can come in if we were to face remnants of the Peace Brigade, or a coalition of Pirates who have decided to rally and stand agaisnt an already weak Republic.

But I think a story like this can take place on multiple planets, and be used for numerous things. Just like their were five battles in Stark, those can happen on different planets and be used to help dom and dev things; depending

Then my dom idea fits i well. I written in the GR going there to stop crime from assuming control. Let me adjust it and ad an objective to search for satelite parts as well and it could be the start of the campaign, ok?

(although I think at least one of the current doms need finishing before we launch this one).
 
I don't think we should advertise this as just a Dominion, because then people see it as an obligation and then people are going to burn out when they know they're only writing for a post count.

Lets focus on the story of this campaign and make it something enjoyable. I don't think we should have objectives per say, because its a war front and all sorts of things happen. I think we should model this after the Stark, multiple battles would be interesting and lead to a lot of development and can even bleed over into the other Dominions happening nearby.

For instance, for this story I know we can have roughly 5-6 writers which would mean the count would be anywhere from 20-16 post, seeing as how this is a combat oriented thread I think those would move at a decent pace.

If were going into an unexpected battle, we can have one of these writers send for help and go contact the senators in the Tholatin thread, which would in turn generate more post. (Just an idea)

I think the opposition should be pirates, or mercenaries of some sort who are more organized than we would expect, and feel as though the Republic is failing the people so instead they take up arms against us. We wouldn't discover this till we get to Metalorn where we're ambushed, resulting in a deadly battle amongst the junk.

My advice would be turning dominions into defence building story's. Create a fixed point where you have to defend and plaster it in cannons, turrets, floor elevators for vehicles, shield generators, retractable cover.
 
I'm interested in any fortification work that we start, so if a thread pops up, let me know and I'll jump in.

Carida has been somewhat fortified with the Carida Military Academy, which was made by a development thread that was a war game here.
