"I'm getting out of Purgatory".
That was all that Kay had told him.
dunZ6LX.gif
Roughly several months following Kay's revelation, Veiere Arenais had managed to free himself from the duties of the Order of the Silver Jedi long enough to embark on a personal journey using The Judiciary to cross the known Galaxy and head deep into former territory of the First Order. The former King, now returned to the Order in service for the people of the Galaxy, had only heard rumors surrounding this new Empire of his Wife's; traveling into these regions without backup was a risk in itself as there were numerous groups seeking to stake a claim off of the back of the First Order, the Order of Ren no doubt still very much in play and out there somewhere, doing whatever it was that they did.

The First Order wasn't Veiere's objective however, though he had worked with many of them in the past, it was his very own Wife that the Jedi Master was coming to meet with and investigate the current situation surrounding her new movement. Survival of the fittest. Do what needs to be done. These were but two quotes Veiere had taken from those that had been discussing the rising Empire led by Kay who had previously forever stood on the foundations of Democracy, fighting for all the right reasons in the past.

"Lieutenant Rorik, keep an eye on the sensors if you'll please" Veiere looked to the Twi-lek at the Comm's and sensory array station upon the bridge. His Senior Officers had all earned his confidence by this time, though he couldn't say the same for this corner of the Galaxy, nor did he understand what kind of political power, if any, Kay still held over those that might see the vessel as a threat to their supposed Empire.

"Ensign Bernard, Let's bring her out of Hyperspace...-I think it's time I made contact with my other half" Veiere spoke with a slightly humorous tone, though also a hint of skepticism behind him. It was difficult to know what to expect from their meeting, or even if Kay would wish to see him after so long. He had done what he could for her while she'd spent time inside Purgatory, yet she had somehow managed to use rather aggressive and illegal measures in order to be freed from captivity. Where this left the two of them, Veiere did not know.

[member="Kay Arenais"],

I've arrived on the border of the System of Zakuul, and I'm here to speak with you.

Please advise with coordinates, so that we may see one another. I hear there has been a great deal of change since we last spoke.

Awaiting your response,

Captain of the HA Judiciary,
Veiere Arenais.

Kay was in her apartment in The Spire, which was Zakuul's capital city. It also housed the throne room at the very top. But given that she hadn't publicly claimed the Empress title, she didn't spend a lot of time there. Since she had arrived, she had drank a lot of tea and held plenty of meetings. Some were with the Scions and other government officials of Zakuul, while others were with foreign companies and members of other governments. In short she kept herself quite busy while she was getting everything set up and prepared for the coming ceremony.

Two messages arrived on her datapad, interrupting her small moment of quiet for tea and reading. One was from the Eternal Fleet that patrolled the region, while the other was from "Veiere..." She spoke his name aloud under her breath. Already she could feel his presence which would grow all the stronger once he was standing right next to her.

The Eternal fleet were co-ordinated by her, almost as though they had a hive mind and she was their Queen. In some respects that was true, but it was really just the way that they were programmed. They had picked up on Veiere's ship once it skirted the edge of the system and right now they waited for the order. Kay sent word for the fleet to escort the Judiciary towards the Spire.

She opened up the message that [member="Veiere Arenais"] had sent her. It was strangely written, more impersonal than anything else. Something told her that she wasn't going to entirely like this meeting.

Kay forwarded her response:

Hello Veiere,

Your ship has been given clearance and I've provided an escort for you. There is a lot to talk about. I shall meet you at the Spire's main entrance.

Kay.
She had left out all titles on purpose. What did they need them for when it came to eachother?

Kay finished her tea and then prepared to meet her husband. Hopefully it'll be a good day.

Veiere received the confirmation he needed, along with an escort to rendezvous with his wife at a location of her choosing; had she not been who she was, Veiere would have questioned the situation for presenting too many unknowns, as well as risks in the meeting. This was [member="Kay Arenais"], however. Veiere hoped that despite the rumors, she hadn't lost her sense of self. Commander Vikras Ansion would remain on the bridge and acting captain over the crew in Veiere's absence, for he would be brought to the surface of Zakuul via the Upsilon-Class Command Shuttle. All of which would take an hour or so to organize and put into play, but needless to say that Kay was his number one concern and priority now.

When he arrived at the Spire, his appearance would scream Jedi to all around him; he had no wish to hide what he was. His Tunic was well kept beneath the Silver Mantle, the dark blue cloak that flowed at his heels in his every step. He was armed, though carrying his Lightsabers upon his belt was nothing out of the ordinary and Kay would recognize this. If anything, she might have questioned him, had Veiere not carried them on his person. These new people of hers may not have felt so confident in the Jedi Master, but he hadn't come here for their entertainment. He had come to speak with his wife, and to find out what this new life of hers on the outside was all about. To find out whether or not her forced release from Prison would implicate him and there family in further harm, and most importantly, to know that she was alright.

Kay got herself dressed up quickly. The last time that [member="Veiere Arenais"] had seen her, she was wearing the yellow jumpsuit that all prisoners of Purgatory wore. So now she wanted something completely different. She took her time getting ready, sitting in front of her vanity as she brushed her hair.

Jareth stood just inside her door, his reflection visible in the mirror. A Scion of the Eternal Empire, his place was an advisor and confident, both of which the yet-to-be-crowned Empress was still getting used to. Kay only took notice of him when he spoke.

"Your husband; he's a Jedi."

Kay was starting to get used to that tone. It meant that he had an opinion that she wouldn't like.
"Yes, I'm fully aware. It wasn't exactly a secret."

"He's not going to approve of what you are doing here."

"That's possible. But he could surprise you." She got to her feet and straightened up her blouse as she turned to head towards the door. Fora moment she thought that Jareth was going to block her path, yet he didn't. Instead he stepped aside.

"Don't let your emotions get in the way of your purpose here. We are depending in you."

"I won't. Try to have a little faith in me, okay?"

He bowed his head to her as she passed by. Knights of Zakuul followed as soon as she stepped out of her apartment. They escorted her to the lift and accompanied her all the way to the main entrance.

It was there that she saw her husband approaching the building. Kay broke into a run then, the Knights pacing along behind her. She quickly wrapped her arms around him and gave him a loving kiss, holding it for a few moments before she broke off so that she could look into his eyes. "I've missed you, my dear. That robe really brings out your eyes. How have you been?"

Veiere was relieved to see that [member="Kay Arenais"], at the very least, had not forgotten her love for him. Frankly, given the past and the way the Sith had turned her against him once before, Veiere hadn't known entirely what to expect there on Zakuul. His arms wrapped around her as she ran into his embrace, his broad smile soon disappearing behind the loving kiss that they shared, and instantly those old feelings and memories of a time where they had been whole, loving and together as a family came flooding in; with his eyes closed for those brief moments, he might have deceived himself into believing that nothing had changed.

"It's so good to see you again..." Veiere whispered softly as they finally let go of the moment, Kay soon asking him how he had been in their absence as a couple; "I've been doing as well as can be, all things considered" he answered, though he didn't need to state their obvious circumstance. "I wasn't sure whether or not to give the rumors credit, but I decided that I couldn't afford not to look into these stories of a new 'Empress' on Zakuul..." the title feeling very similar to that of the announced monarchy during the days of Prazutis' manipulation over Commenor.

"You've found a new home I see...-I'd be interested to know how you manged to get free of the last one. The woman didn't seem to be the forgiving time", [member="Lucinda Larr"] had certainly left an impression, a memorable one though it was nothing positive. "I'm sure you can imagine the number and context of questions I have on my mind, right now".

Kay-Larr

Sphaera Tea Company Owner
Oh how she missed his voice. And his whispers. Not to mention those protective arms wrapped around her. It was like falling in love with him all over again now that she was free.

"Purgatory wasn't my home...But let's discuss this inside, shall we?" Kay linked her arm with that of [member="Veiere Arenais"] and turned to walk with him inside of the building. The Knights followed suit, providing them an escort whether it was deemed necessary or not. She led him to the large lift, intending to bring her husband up to her apartment. "I'm not formally the Empress yet. But the ceremony will be taking place soon. I'm surprised that word has gotten out already..." Or maybe she shouldn't be too surprised. She was putting her feelers out there for trade deals, weaponry and so on. It didn't take much for people to start talking.

"The Warden had no choice but to let me go. [member="Lannis Morcus"] had set up a blockade, brought with him an army, and the Mandalorians that my niece had sent were also there to help." As well as [member="The Amalgam"] . That Sith witch put the whole prison under attack with one of her spells.

Once out of the lift, Kay led Veiere through the corridor to her apartment. As she walked she glanced around for Jareth but didn't see him. Hopefully he'd give her some privacy.

As they aplroached her apartment doir, the Knights took up their posts outside of it. Once Kay and Veiere were inside she gave him another kiss. "Thank you for all of your visits. They kept me going and lifted my spirits. I don't know how you managed it, but I needed them." She gestured to the kitchen. "Did you want a drink? Anything to eat?"

"Whiskey, please..." he answered his Wife, his eyes however scanning the apartment in close study. All of this was so foreign from every ounce of knowledge he had held of his wife's livelihood before today. [member="Kay Arenais"] had up and vanished from Commenor, many people believing her dead in the weeks that led up to her sudden admission of guilt, live-streamed across the system, not to mention the Holo-net. Purgatory had been a horrible consequence, though it was one that unfortunately made sense compared to all of this...-And when she mentioned her niece, Veiere knew exactly what that meant. The Mandalorian Empire...-Or at the very least, a size-able Clan therein had okay'd an operation to free Kay from prison, no doubt breaking numerous laws and hurting others to get her out of there. Veiere could only imagine, after hearing about Eshan. "Better make that straight, with no ice" He added, feeling as if a mass of weight had come down upon him. He needed to know more...-To understand.

"How long have you been here?" He asked as he walked the room. The question coming without much thought, though having spoken it, he realized the strength in it's purpose. How long had she been here without contacting him. How long had the Children been without seeing their Mother. How long were the authorities on the hunt for her and how long did she plan to remain there. Veiere had to forcefully bury his feelings to remain unbiased and wholly focused on the facts of what he saw before him; it was better that his frustration not become visible to his Wife, he needed her to speak honestly, not out of fear or concern for how he might react. Fortunately the Jedi Master had become quite the expert at burying his feelings in the face of great controversy. Commenor had seen to that.

Ahh whiskey. [member="Veiere Arenais"] was always partial to that drink. So it was a good thing that she was sure to always have some in stock.

Kay got out a glass and fetched the bottle, nodding as he asked for the drink to be poured straight. Before taking it to him, she poured herself a cup of already steeped Sapir tea and then carried both drinks over to him. Jareth's words echoed in her mind, yet she tried to maintain the confidence that Veiere would understand.

"Here you are, my dear." She sat down on the couch, inviting him to sit with her before she answered his question. "I've been here for a couple of months. After Purgatory I was brought to Yasha for a time, so that she could see that I was okay. It was on my journey there that Lannis told me about Zakuul and his reasons for getting me out." She sipped her tea. "And don't worry...you are not obligated to stay here with me. Politics is my calling. It always has been, just as the Jedi have always been yours. I have a chance to do good things again, like we did with Commenor. I couldn't pass it up."

"Is this going to be just like Commenor?" Veiere countered with a hint of skepticism; it was a fair question from his position. "You put the Monarchy in place back then, but we still ran Commenor like a democracy with those that we had working alongside us. Leading an Empire however sounds much more like a dictatorship; Not to mention that there's no doubt a number of crimes being committed just to get you out of there...", Veiere didn't want to see her in prison ever again but at this point it sounded as though it was either that or she lead with force in order to escape the repercussions. He reluctantly moved to take a seat, also accepting the glass of whiskey as it was handed to him and lifting his head in a half-way sort of nod, a silent thanks in Veiere's own form of gesture.

"Do you not anticipate any sort of consequences for what became of Commenor?" He asked [member="Kay Arenais"]; "Your disappearance was sudden, as was your incarceration and admissions of guilt. Now you're ascending some sort of new form of leadership over a foreign world...-Surely you know that people will have questions, to put it very mildly". Politics wasn't his game she was right, but through Commenor he had learned to play it none the less. and he also knew that when you had opposition, having a background of dirt rarely made things any better.

"Hell. I have questions...".

Kay's pleasant demeanor slipped away as [member="Veiere Arenais"] spoke. From what she could tell, it almost sounded as though he wanted her put back into Purgatory. She was lucky that it wasn't under the jurisdiction of the Silvers, otherwise there was a chance that he could want to have her arrested. However he came alone, so there was no need for her to worry about that.

She sipped her tea, her brows furrowed while she spoke quietly. "Zakuul is...more religious than Commenor. So it will be different, but not entirely. You know me, I'm not going to be some tyrant. But look at what we did for Commenor and the region. It was all stable and the economy was booming until the Sith arrived. Zakuul is so far away from that being a threat, and they wanted my help. Their military is stronger, and I'm not going to back down when my friends or allies need military support. Not this time." Experience on the battlefield was what the Commenori lacked and it was part of their downfall. At least in her mind.

"And are you really the one to lecture me on the crimes associated with escaping from prison?" She wanted to add 'and murder', but didn't.

Kay had another sip of her tea. "Not everyone will approve, I know that. But I've already had other governments reaching out to offer their support as well as trade deals. It's no different than how Commenor got it's start after the One Sith fell apart."

Veiere leaned back into his seat, taking a moment to pause, staring back at [member="Kay Arenais"] having said what she did. She had the benefit of being right about him, he couldn't argue that. The only difference back then, compared to the present was that she was in charge of his incarceration where as Purgatory had been under @Luncinda Larr's control and authority, someone who had connections and wouldn't hesitate to use them. If she had some form of political immunity from being arrested once again, then that would at the very least settle one of his concerns.

"These friends of yours...-Morcus for one" Veiere spoke up after a long moment of silence, "He disappeared along with several others leaving only [member="Silfe Sosuri"], [member="Jairdain"] and [member="Darlyn Excron"]. We could have used the full House of Lords, but they left Commenor without word as to why" he cautioned her, good trustworthy people were difficult to come by and he didn't want her to fall into another trap like what happened with @Mythos. "Be careful who you put your trust and faith in, that's all that I'm saying..." he raised his free hand as if to emphasize the end of the point.

"And yes, I am guilty of my past but you were responsible for my care under an arrest that I handed myself in for....-You don't have that same luxury with this other Woman, I can't help you this time if everything goes to hell", and that was the hard truth; "If you're not concerned about it, then I'll take your word for it but it's a question you need to consider, if you haven't already".

"Lannis left to find me and to work on getting me out. But we weren't the only government that he was loyal to. He's always been Imperial at heart, Imperial by nature. And that is where he is now. But...he has never betrayed me. Why would he go to all of this trouble only to have me captured or put back in prison? He's not someone that I should be worried about." [member="Veiere Arenais"] was right about one thing, however. She had to be much more careful this time around.

Kay sipped her tea, yet held the warm liquid in her mouth for a moment before swallowing. As Jareth had predicted, as well as her gut instinct did, she didn't have her husband's support. Yet she couldn't allow it to distract her from her work here, anymore than he could allow her to distract him.
"I understand..."

She ran her thumbs along the rim of her tea cup, deep in thought. She couldn't really tell if she was feeling a heavy weight on her shoulders, or if it was isolation. Either way, it was something that she was going to have to accept as a consequence for this new chapter in her life.

Kay cleared her throat a little as she decided to change the subject. "How are you fairing with being a naval officer? I must say that such a position comes naturally to you."

"I have not spent enough time with the man to be able to know one way or another" Veiere replied where Morcus was concerned, "All I know is that you trusted Mythos once, and he led the Sith Empire to victory against us. Morcus isn't the target of my concern, it's the possibility of you being led astray once again", he was so far detached from this new life of [member="Kay Arenais"]', that all he had were concerns. Nothing of any of this felt like Commenor had during it's first days. Veiere had been there to support her through the election, to see her become the new President guided by the Elders. He had also seen how terribly things could fall apart and in his mind, Kay had suffered one trauma after another, all the way up to this new Empire of hers...

Kay's attempt to change the subject did not go unnoticed, though Veiere resigned himself to accept that she would not consider his views, let alone agree with them. Having a mutual discussion was once thing, though he would not look to speak against her will; if this was the path she was choosing to follow, then that was her decision and he would have to accept that also. "Having a position within the Silver Fleet is somewhat new to me, in the past I only ever stood upon a bridge when it was required of me. Today, I have a crew whom rely on me. Vikras is second in command and the senior officers are a good team...".

"Caedyn and Loreena both come and go from the Temple on Kashyyyk" Veiere looked to her this time with a hint of a smile, their Children were fast growing and entirely independent these days. Still, he could not have anticipated them both to be so close to him and yet on the other side of the Galaxy to their Mother now. If anything, the past had suggested the complete opposite would occur. "Lori seems to be struggling to find herself, though she continues to ask for training. She's still an avid pilot and has a crew of her own aboard the Jaster's Sparrow" His smile broadened a moment as he spoke of their daughter. There were concerns there, though she and her brother seemed to be faring. "Caedyn's recently returned to Kashyyyk for Asaraa, though it looks like he's at something of a loss. The Je'daii have left the known Galaxy and have apparently taken a prolonged voyage upon The Providence that I offered to his Master. I think his Girlfriend is trying to convince him to join the Silver Jedi as well".

The betrayal of [member="Mythos"] had hit her hard. Because of him, [member="Darth Prazutis"] was able to find her. Their fight was short lived, all due to his bloody Sith magic. And from then on she was their captive.

That is until Commenor's liberation.

How many more would betray her? Was she to just not have friends anymore? To not let anyone in and keep her heart locked away? That was a possibility. But not one that she favoured.

Thankfully [member="Veiere Arenais"] allowed for the change in subject. She didn't want to dwell on dark things. Best to save that for the times when she was by herself.

"Vikras is a good man. He always has been."

Kay sipped her tea again as she listened to the news on their children. At least someone was keeping an eye on them. "Lori has always struggled to find her place. She's the youngest. There are many paths that she'd be expected to follow. One of these days she'll figure it out." And Kay would support whatever they chose. What either of them would think about what she was doing on Zakuul, she could never guess. But she hoped that neither would turn their back on her.

"Has Caedyn forgiven you then?"

"No, I don't think so" Veiere replied, his glance shifting to that of a nearby window as he commented on the subject of their Son; "Though circumstance, both his and ours, has seemingly buried the resentment he once held...-Or at-least he's behaving that way" frankly it was a welcome change, sharing a word with Caedyn without there being an argument. "He still speaks to me with indifference, though the fact that he's speaking to me at all is a step forward..." Veiere chuckled softly under his breath, though still held a skeptical air about him.

"I've heard nothing from Bradshaw, nor Rae-Anna. [member="Jairdain"] is also on Kashyyyk however and our Grandson is doing well" Veiere spoke in an attempt to bring some optimism to the table; "I've not heard from Commenor at all, though that's to be expected I suppose. Fortunately there's been no hostilities from outside nations there and from what I can tell, the people are moving on", Veiere hadn't been certain whether Kay would wish to know or not, though he told her either way. It had been 'their World', after-all.

Well this was better; talking about their children and keeping the focus off of Zakuul. Kay placed her hand on his forearm as he spoke of Caedyn speaking to him again. Of course she windered if their son had the same concern over Kay's new life here like [member="Veiere Arenais"] did, but she didn't want to ask.

As for hearing about Brad and Rae-Anna, that was to be expected. Kay could count the combined number of years that she had been with the two of them on one hand. But it didn't mean that she loved them any less.

She sipped her tea, not entirely surprised that Commenor would be quiet while they reshaped themselves.
"Before I came here, I was contacted by my old friend [member="Marina DeVoe"] . She helped some of the children escape the siege and took them to Alderaan to be cared for. She wanted me to help them find their families. Only about half had families that survived and I relayed the information through. The others got to stay with their foster families. I thought....thought that it was the least that I could do. And the most without getting myself arrested again."

Some of Kay's belongings, her armour, umbrella, tea set, dragon and old freighter were sent to her as well. As far as she was concerned, she wouldn't be able to go on Commenor again. Not without getting sent back to Purgatory anyways.

"Our home is still there in the hills of the Eldritch Mountain range, House Arenais is still regularly funding some of the remaining governments operations to help them rebuild and move forward. I've not been back there in some time, though I've also managed to escape any harsh recourse from the people. You have belongings still within the estate, if you'd like I can fetch them for you; I don't imagine you'll be returning any time soon so you might as well have your wardrobe and everything here where you can make use and enjoy them" Veiere offered. He hadn't considered it until now, knowing for certain that this world was to be her new home; "Photo's of the Children and what not, something to make this place here more...-You" he finished speaking for the time, verbalizing his thoughts and only to turn back to the glass of Whiskey in his right hand, raising it to take a sip.

With [member="Kay Arenais"] situated on Zakuul and Veiere living full-time on Kashyyyk, it begged the question to where their current difference in lifestyle left them as Husband and Wife. "We're on opposite sides of the Galaxy now" Veiere pointed out, as though it needed to be said. It couldn't be more obvious. "What do I tell the Children when they ask about us?" Veiere looked back to his Wife, uncertain as to how she might answer though keen on hearing as to how she felt on the subject.

Kay-Larr

Kay gave [member="Veiere Arenais"] a small smile as he offered to bring her some of her belongings. "I'd like that very much. I haven't exactly made this place my own yet. I'm not sure if they'll be giving me a bigger apartment or if I just stay here. But either way, it could use some of my charm to soften the place up a little." The harsh decor were remnants of Imperial rule, as well as some of the religious preference of the Scions. Not really to her taste.

And then he brought up the status of their marriage. Kay set her tea cup on a side table and then turned on the sofa to face Veiere more squarely. "Tell them the truth; that we love eachother dearly. Our paths have never really stayed on the same course for long. How many times did you leave to work with some Jedi Order? And then there was our seperation; an illusion made just to appease the public so that they wouldn't judge me harshly for not wanting a divorce." She lifted her hand up to his face and caressed his cheek with her thumb. "Long ago a marriage like ours was forbidden, purely for the conflicts it presents. But we've lasted through many trials abd the test of time. I want to still be yours if you'll have me."

"As if you need to ask" Veiere responded with a sarcastic, yet playful edge to his tone, smirking back at [member="Kay Arenais"] for the preposterous notion that he might not wish for the same. "You're right, too. My time on Ession watching over the young [member="Cedric Grayson"] didn't come between us while you remained on Commenor" he agreed, nodding slowly and quite frankly glad to have it all out and open in the air before them. "I'm not sure how the twins will feel about it all but I'm relieved to hear your approval for my returning to the Jedi. I know it is where I belong on the grander scale of things...", just as she believed this was where she was meant to be. They were both fortunate that they were the kind of people that didn't force one another to follow suit, to walk the same path and ignore what their hearts desired and believed in. Their ideals were similar, and yet their methods for achieving their hopes and dreams for the Galaxy were not. Veiere had always been a Jedi, and Kay had always been a Politician; it wasn't the easiest pairing of careers, but they had always made it work somehow.

"Promise me that you'll reach out should there be any trouble..." Veiere asked rhetorically, expecting that she would do so knowing how he would always strive to support her and do his best to maintain her safety. "Unfortunately, building an Empire often leads to conflict with others. We've seen it in almost ever imperial government that's come and gone so far, the Sith Empire being the most blatant example" he elaborated a little in order to voice his concern. "We're going to be on opposing sides of the Galaxy. You'll want to contact me ahead of time, if I'm ever to travel this far and make it on time should such a thing threaten you again".

Kay-Larr

Sphaera Tea Company Owner
Kay breathed a small breath of relief when he revealed that he still wanted her. Despite their disagreements, despite their different paths, their bond remained strong. Their loyalty to eachother was unbroken.

She lowered her hand and turned so that she could rest against him. "I know that it's where you belong. And when have I ever wanted to hold you back? I haven't tried to force you into doing one thing or another. I'm not going to try to force you to be here." She couldn't do that to him. It was bad enough when [member="Veiere Arenais"] went Dark when they took time away to raise the twins. Kay always felt the blame for that, as though it was boredom and unfulfilment of his destiny that led him to such a state. She didn't want to be responsible for it again.

As he mentioned threats and the desire to come to her aid, Kay was surprised. Moments ago he had said that he wouldn't be able to help her, should things go to hell. And now he wanted to be able to do so. It was a shift that she was grateful for.

"I promise. The moment that I hear word, I'll contact you. In the meantime I'm going to reach out to the governments nearby and build alliances with them. That way they'll be quicker to help than those on the other side of the Galaxy."
