"...I could escape if I wanted to."

She probably couldn't, not without blowing apart the entire backyard in the process, but she was going to act smug until the very end. Which happened seconds later, as he raised himself up to his feet and crouched down in front of her. Valery's breath hitched, and with that playful smirk tugging at her lips, she closed her eyes and leaned into the kiss. It was the outlet for her emotions that she needed from the moment she had seen him without a shirt, and it was only the beginning.

Valery knew exactly what that sly grin meant.

"Seems like I'll have to keep struggling then..." She bit her lower lip and watched him get closer.

With a groan, Valery sat up in bed, blankets still wrapped around her, and looked out through the window. "Ugh, my clothes and stuff are still in the backyard." She chuckled and leaned in to kiss his forehead before she stood up without warning and slowly approached the closet to pick out her Epicanthix dress for the day. Her hair was a complete mess, and probably couldn't easily be fixed up, so she raised her arms and threw it into a lazy, messy bun for once.

One that had its own allure to it.

"You feeling a bit better too, love? I feel like I just had a huge weight lifted off my shoulders."

"Mm, better, yeah."

Kahlil still rested on the bed as he watched her, smirking just a bit as he did. He scooted up so he was at least sitting on the edge, but he wasn't in a hurry to get up just yet. Instead, he turned his gaze out the window to the forest close by, smiling just a little. Barely, really. He wasn't truly over everything that they'd had to deal with. The war was just starting, and the senate was already behaving so poorly.

"I'm still not too sure how to feel about everything that's going to happen."

Better, hm?

Valery turned around after getting dressed and walked over to him as he sat down on the side of the bed. She slowly lowered herself down into his lap, her feet resting just on the ground while her hands settled on his shoulders. Even though they had blown off steam, it didn't really change the future — was was coming and they'd have to be ready to shoulder the burdens of that as leaders.

"It's upsetting to me because they used to be our allies, and well, I had really hoped to raise the kids in peacetime." She brought her hand up to gently brush against his cheek while she smiled. "But I'm also confident that we'll get through this. Maybe it sounds arrogant but it's... just this feeling I have."

She looked him in the eyes with that same gentle smile.

"Are you afraid or angry? Or just disappointed?"

"Disappointed, really. At both myself an the senate. They let people clearly there to stir up trouble prattle on, entertained their ideas rather than shutting them down. I shouldn't have acted the way I did, but those people. They're incredibly inept at times." They're in charge of a huge portion of the Galaxy, and yet they didn't immediately voice their opposition to outright betrayal. Silence spoke volumes.

Far more than their pretty words.

"Makes you wonder how Alicio hasn't gone insane yet, hm?" She tried with a weak smile, but the joke fell flat even for Valery herself. Her lips thinned as she pressed them together, and her hands squeezed his shoulders, massaging them as a way to force the tension out of him. She didn't at all like what she heard about the senate meeting, and not just the part about being sacrificed had bothered her.

No, after everything the Jedi had done for the Alliance, it was their desire to control that bothered her.

"There might be meetings in the near future for you to attend as well, and I'm sure they'll be frustrating too. Though I expect their stance on the Mandalorians to change when the conflict really picks up, at least. Do you still want to handle it?" She asked carefully — Valery knew that he could do it, so she didn't want to make it sound like she doubted him. As his wife, she was just worried about how it'd affect him.

"Maybe tagging up with Alicio or someone else you trust there might make it less demanding."

"I don't envy his choice in the slightest."

How could he? He leaned back against her hands, smiling faintly. He couldn't keep aggravated with her like this. It was something to think about for certain though. Alicio would be the one he should probably reach out to for these events. Especially since he had no doubt it'd come into play soon enough. Kahlil let out a sigh, leaning further back to just rest the back of his head against her chest.

"No, I'll figure something out. Gotta keep those senators on their toes after all."

When he leaned his head back against her chest, Valery smiled and stopped massaging his shoulders, to instead slide her hands down his chest and hug his head close against her that way. She didn't like seeing him this worked up over Jedi duty, and she could tell he wasn't fond of it either. But they both knew how important it was for him to be there. Someone who wasn't afraid to speak up against the Senate.

"You're right and I'm glad you're handling it. Maybe you're not as....diplomatic as some," she began with just a faint teasing smirk. "But I think many of those senators aren't used to having someone push back without hiding their true intentions behind carefully picked out words." She knew she was biased in all of this, but his appearance in the senate had actually left an impression.

"Just you know...be careful. As much as I loved today's attention after coming home, we don't need the Senate for that, hm?" She grinned and kisses the top of his head.

"Diplomacy was something I was taught at a young age. How to speak honeyed words to make the masses follow your every word as if it's gospel. I could, if I wanted, play that game. But this isn't a game. And I've no intention of tricking people as the Senate seems to think is necessary." He smirked a bit, leaning up to catch her kiss on his lips instead of his forehead before nodding. "I'll avoid being as crass as I had been, provided they don't act like asses again."

"Hmnm, I like your stance on it, Senator Noble," Valery said with a wide grin after he caught her kiss on the lips. She knew it was a dangerous game to tease him about this, but it was far too much fun not to take her chances now. Besides, she knew exactly what he was doing, leaning his head back against her like that.

She knew him.

"I think some senators will always be asses, but just don't get yourself into too much trouble, okay? Well, and it's important the Jedi are represented well. I am glad you are not afraid to defend us and be honest and open about it. Just...I'd hate it if it got you in trouble or if you come home frustrated like this every time."

She leaned in very close now, bringing her lips right next to his right ear. "Although, it has its perks too," she whisperd playfully.

"Not a Senator. I couldn't be paid enough for something like that."

He smirked with his eyes closed, only peeking one open once he felt her breath on his ear. "Ohh? What kind of perks are you talking about, mm? Something I should be made aware of, Madam Noble?"

Valery snickered softly and caught the smirk on his face with a grin of her own. She couldn't even imagine him as a senator, really, but it was a lof of fun to tease him about it, considering his role to represent the Jedi to the Senate. A role that was going to become more and more important with the escalation of the Mandalorian conflict.

A conflict that would likely shift into full-scale war between the Alliance and Enclave.

"Oh you're more than aware of it," Valery purred into his ear while her hands shifted circles around his bare chest. "The kind of perks that leave me unable to walk." She flashed a more playful smile and planted a gentle, teasing kiss against his cheek.

"Right now, I'm still standing though~"

"You're literally sitting behind me."

Kahlil raised a brow right up, glancing back towards her as she hugged him. And just grinned. "You're really asking not to walk, but don't you think you should at least be more clever with it?"

Valery grinned, "I just stood up to get dressed. I saw you looking," she said, her voice still like a teasing whisper. A challenge, even, that she was more than happy to continue for now. She knew exactly what effect it had on him - she could see it and feel it through their bond.

"Should I? I think I have you under control quite well right now." She leaned in and pressed a kiss into his neck, this time making sure to make the smacking sound of her lips against his skin a little more exaggerated.

"Mine," she then whispered into his ear, her own cheeks bright red, but she had convinced herself that she was going to win this battle.
