Galactic Alliance Defense Force (Info & Roster)

Bfzi4hk.gif

THE ARMED FORCES

On land or in the black of space, the militaries of the Galactic Alliance stand united on the battlefield. This is primarily achieved through the Galactic Alliance Defense Force, a massive formally trained military force composed of volunteer forces from across the many planets of the Alliance, working alongside local Planetary Defense Forces to secure the safety of the Alliance’s citizens.

While local PDFs are encouraged to work alongside the GADF, many planets rely entirely on local GADF garrisons, and GADF forces are spread across the Alliance cloud, stationed at planetary fortifications to protect sectors of space. The Alliance space is split up into several sectors, each with a dedicated fleet designed to take on any threat that might take on conquering said space.

The Federal Assembly oversees the singular, centralized fighting force that serves to protect all systems and citizens of the Galactic Alliance. The Defense Force represents the combined skills and capabilities of the federal republic’s many worlds, bringing together members of each and federally funded assets into a single universally trained, equipped and governed military that responds to matters of national security or incidents beyond the scope of a planetary or systems force.

GALACTIC ALLIANCE DEFENSE FORCE

The Defense Force consists of two primary branches: the Army, and Navy. Newly enlisted cadets have the option to choose from a number of career specializations under each branch, though the exact options available depend on their score on the GADF’s Vocational Aptitude Test (VAT). Some may choose to pursue more advanced careers with the GADF, which typically fall outside of the scope of training provided for enlisted ranks. These might include, but are not limited to: becoming an army ranger, a naval bridge officer, an GASC pilot, or an Armor commander. Such careers require additional and often rigorous training/education. Cadets who find themselves eligible for these advanced specializations may enroll in one of the GADF’s many prestigious academies, including the Grayson Military Academy on Coruscant, or the Pols Anaxes Naval War College on Anaxes. Regardless of the branch or specialization chosen, all new cadets are required to complete the GADF’s Basic Military Qualification course.

  • GALACTIC ALLIANCE DEFENSE FORCE: Army

The finest soldiers in the galaxy make up the GADF’s largest branch, the army of the Galactic Alliance acts as the GA’s ground based arm. Armed for both defensive and offensive operations to combat the forces of evil, the Army of the Defense Force offers a vast array of career opportunities within its wide reach. For those who want to see the wide expanses of the GA’s cloud, or venture out to fight the good fight up close, the army is for you. Specializations within the Army include:

~ The Infantry - Equipped with the best tools credits could buy, the standard infantryman makes up the majority of the army’s forces. Infantry of the GADF are trained to be the best at their assigned role they could possibly be, such as riflemen, scouts, field medics, heavy weapons, and more. Equipped with the latest equipment from the GADF’s arsenal, the boots on the ground are trained to take on anything that comes their way.

~ Support - The true backbone of the GADF’s ground operation, the support units of the army act as the essential framework for any successful operation. Ranging from logistics, to artillery, to medical staff, the GADF has the capability to support massive operations with these men and women who act as the skeleton of the Defense Force.

~ Mechanized - The primary movers and shakers of the GADF doctrine, the mechanized units of the army work alongside the infantry to push objectives with armored personnel carriers and IFVs. The hyper-coordinated nature of the GADF’s doctrine focuses on quick movement, and the mechanized units of the army act as the primary way of achieving that.

~ Armored - Tanks. Walkers. These act as the heavy machinery that define the superior firepower doctrine of the army. The crewmen of these beasts are trained to operate and maintain these heavy platforms, and push in behind the infantry and mechanized as the sledgehammers they were designed to be. The armored corps of the army are designed to punch through enemy fortifications and divisions, and engage enemy armor.

~ Pathfinders - The Best of the Best. The special forces of the army are designed to push as a shock unit to act as the first boots on the ground, often in dangerous insertions to set up FOBs and clear logistical routes for the rest of the army to push in.

~ Commandos - Trained in the absurd, the commandos of the GADF Army are the men who excel in the chaotic. Equipped with armor that is designed to make every commando a walking arsenal, the best and brightest of the GADF Commandos are often handpicked for missions often deemed to be impossible. Trained to be dropped behind enemy lines, the Commandos are equipped to do whatever needs done to assist in the GA’s interests.

  • GALACTIC ALLIANCE DEFENSE FORCE: Navy

The men and women of the GADF Navy act as the first line of defense against incoming threats, acting as crew for the heaviest equipment in the Galactic Alliance’s arsenal, the top of the line ships designed to fight back against the naval forces of darkness. Trained in maintaining, operating, and fielding anything between high end starfighters, to the massive vessels designed to act as shows of force to the enemies of the Alliance, the Navy offers a wide variety of skill sets a chance to shine.

~ Officers and Crewmen - The bulk of the Naval forces of the GADF, these brave men and women of the naval forces of the GA act as the forward spearhead of the Defense Force. Manning vessels of all shapes and sizes, the dedicated crews of the naval vessels that make up the fleets of the GADF Navy are well trained and drilled in their dedicated roles.

~ Starfighter Corps - The daring pilots of the GADF carry on the legacy of those that came before. Armed still with the classic designs upgraded for the modern skies, the starfighter corps are a versatile group designed to rule the skies. Between the air superiority X-wings, the Interceptor pilots of the A-wing, or the close air support pilots of the Y-wings, the Starfighter Corp are some of the most daring men on the battlefield.

~ Marines - The elite infantry of the GADF navy, the marines are trained to act as the boarding parties and defensive crew within larger ships. Trained to handle the rigors of zero gravity, and the close quarters of ship internals, the marines are often highly adaptive and intelligent fighters.

DEFENSE FORCE ORGANIZATION

TpwTGCN.png

Enlisted ranks (or "non-commissioned members") make up the majority of the Defense Force's manpower. These members typically perform jobs and hold positions that require minimal (if any) additional training courses after completing the Basic Military Qualification course. Most field personnel fall into the enlisted ranks since they often require little previous knowledge, exceptional VAT scores, or a long and arduous program at a military academy.
A commissioned officer (or simply "an officer") is a member of the Defense Force who has been issued a formal document (known as a commission) granting them legal authority over enlisted ranks and officers subordinate to them. Commissions are typically granted upon graduating from one of the Alliance's accredited military academies, allowing recipients to pursue more advanced specializations and positions of authority within the Defense Force command structure.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
GALACTIC ALLIANCE DEFENSE FORCE:
Organizational Structure
Consider this a guide only. The only rule is the Rule of Cool - you want to command a unit/ship and you're higher rank, so ahead if it's best for the story.

Different formations may be larger or smaller depending on the number of support staff, units assigned (or reassigned elsewhere), specialized units etc.

Preexisting names for units can be maintained, variations (e.g. Task Force rather than Fleet, Heavy Battalion rather than Battalion) are fine.

Not every officer has to be a commander. XO/2IC/deputy commander is generally one rank lower than the command (e.g. battalion 2IC is a major). They can also be staff offers (e.g. Star Defender operations/logistics/intelligence officer could be a lieutenant commander).

Special forces units are often led by a commander one rank higher (e.g. special forces platoon led by a captain).
